Big Event Showcase / Re: Question...about MusicFest

How is it that fanime could have AnCafe attend one year and pretty much no one the next? Am I just mistaken? Is the list not complete? Because in all honesty what am I, or anyone for that matter, really paying for? I'm honestly just curious. I appreciate that I was able to see an awesome japanese rock band last year, but it leaves me with expectations, which I believe most people would be left with. So to go in the MusicFest page and see that sorry list, I must say I'm personally disappointed with the lineup. I know if the list stays that way I won't attend MusicFest, which is an easy solution to the problem, but I just want a little clarification as to why the list is so...blah. Thanks to anyone who can feed my curiosity ^.^

Wow... I'm not entirely sure how to respond to this, but I have to WHOLE HEARTEDLY agree that what you had just said is really insulting to both the guests of Fanime, their fans, and staff.

One thing that should come to mind is that there's the possibility that... tastes differ within the Fanime community. Not everyone is a fan of AnCafe, not everyone is a fan of Momoi or the other guests. You realize, almost year after year, we've had a majority of J-rock/Visual-kei oriented guests. Momoi happens to be one of the few actual ANIME-RELATED idols that we've had.

And just as a reminder, you can't spell Fanime without "anime".

MusicFest is for music within all Japanese media, not just one genre. It isn't called "J-rock Fest". A lot of people actually don't like J-rock, while there are many who do. Those who do, got to enjoy themselves at music fest with a guest to their liking. Why not let everyone else have a turn?

Momoi, coming to MusicFest, is a huge thing for a lot of anime fans. There are many huge fans of hers traveling across the country, and internationally, to see her. There are people excited for her, and planning to share their excitement at the event. To call that a "sorry list", well, I'm just sorry that you're so upset as to feel the need to insult our guests and our fans.

And plenty of them, including myself, will be enjoying ourselves at MusicFest with the "disappointing lineup".

You must be part of the older crowd, lol.

I do hope you're joking. Momoi is an idol representing fan culture from media since the 80's. Most of her biggest fans are of "the older crowd".

Looks like I am going to be buying myself a pair of glowsticks.  Does anyone know how to wave the glowsticks Akibakei Style?  If anyone from Fanime staffing can get the ok that we attendees can bring glowsticks to the San Jose Civic Auditorium please respond so there will not be any confusion.  Thanks.  ;)

I am so looking forward to Haruko Momoi's Concert and I hope she sings Love Slave and Kujibiki Unbalance.

Love Slave is unlikely, but Kujibiki Unblanace is a possibility. You can see a lot of examples of otagei in Momoi's concert videos on YouTube, I think.

Note to self: Buy glow sticks.
Note to you: clarify if you can even bring those. o:

SJCC doesn't want glowsticks, I think Rovers would take them away from you. Not sure about the space where Momoi is going to perform at, though...
So you might want to e-mail whoever would be in charge of knowing that info.

Actually, the concert is held in the Civic Auditorium and not inside the SJ Convention Center. So having glowsticks at the concert won't be an issue but Facilities is double-checking that for me.

And yes, no glowsticks at Momoi's concert would be a sad thing!

Thank you for clarifying!!!

Glowsticks and otagei are a huge part of Momoi's concert, and the enthusiasm associated with it is a huge aspect of what a Momoi concert is. Without that, many fans traveling across the country and internationally would be really disappointed.

Things in the Universe / Re: Top 10 favorite Actress

By the way, so what if they are horrible, they are bad at acting so that means they will still get better in the future, come on if you complain about them sucks then why don't you act and let other people criticized you jeez i am just saying any 10 of your favorite Japanese actress couldn't be that hard right? I bet you haven't even saw half of the actress in my list and you already probably criticized of what they said because they might be pretty.

I'm a bit confused by what you've said... Criticizing them because he hasn't seen them, and that they might be pretty...?

Though, really, you can like what you like-- Everyone's taste differs, but most of the shows you've listed are immensely sub-par, along with the actresses you've listed within them. You realize, most people wouldn't even watch these shows if it weren't for their anime-related counterparts.

Everyone on your list barely has done any other role than the series you've mentioned. Morita Suzuka is barely even considered an idol. The only one who probably has a recognizable following would be Kawabe Chieko. And even then, most of her fame is from Sailor Moon and her anime theme songs, and the fact that she's "foreign", and she's possibly the more attractive one on your list in comparison to everyone there. I don't even know why a lot of these would be on anyone's top list. Iwata Sayuri, her most notable role was probably in Jigoku Shoujo, which had a decent following in China because of the animation, it was because of the content. Not because of her. A role as Enma Ai doesn't ask much of her. She's a young actress, which is understandable, but she is far from what would be called a "skilled actress".

So with that, you put up an opinion on a public forum... on the internet, you're not in the position to expect a void of the possibility of criticism-- especially when you're making a thread on... favorite actresses, where you'd assume someone would list actresses based on their actual acting skill.

Ughhhhhh god damn it. Now I really want some fondant cakes. ;A;

Not to mention, as this isn't a primary part of the forum... I don't think most people would consider looking here for the members pics thread. lol

You know what's happy? Beard Papa fondant cakes... mmmmmmm...

Somehow something so much as pushing one's beliefs on other people... and telling them to burn in hell if they don't, just because they strongly believe in them... isn't something I would describe as "great". We ca easily respect their religion, but they surely did not respect us.

But thankfully, I imagined it with Kudo instead of what LordKefka may actually look like.

Just in case you haven't realized, protesting against other protesters... just to oppose them, isn't going to suddenly make everyone get along. If anything, it'll anger the protesters, and irritate the rest of FanimeCon attendees by bringing MORE conflict in the general area. If anything escalates, it would become a problem, and possibly harm people.
#71
Yes, there is. The opposition may not necessarily be against your cause, but I would believe that it would not be approved of to host a protest outside of the con. Not only does it cause conflict and controversy with people outside of the con, it is potentially dangerous to our attendees and could possibly become a riot.

Realize, even if you may find it fun, you are protesting against other protesters. I do not believe that it'd be wise hosting an event that poses as a danger to people in the area, and two groups of opposing protesters are likely to be assessed by proper authorities.
#72
I strongly do not believe FanimeCon would advocate this, so if you insist on organizing and discussing this event, please do it elsewhere and not on the Fanime Boards. Thank you.

... "Dattebayo" is nonsensical. It's his catch phrase. It wouldn't make sense to localize it in the US and keep it Dattebayo, so they made a catch phrase like "Believe it!" because it'd make more sense to the audience.

P.S. It's not a swear word.

If you don't like dubs, don't buy them. Don't bother watching them. They were created so that they're legally and easily accessible to the general public, and translated in a way most people would understand them. You can't expect the industry to keep it half English and half Japanese just because whiny fans demand it. Only some phrases can be kept originally Japanese, whereas the rest of the language is up for translation.

Watch subs, call it a day.

NOOOOOOOOOOO DONT BRING ANY TO THE STATES! I like them in their original state. I prefer to read the subtitles its not that hard lol.

... how does bringing it to the states remove the subtitles? If anything, the provide BETTER subtitles since the translators at most of the companies are credible translators.

idunno i cant say I wouldnt want some anime brought in the states. as long as it sticks to the storyline and is not dubbed over but subbed.

Why would they change the storyline? o_0

Somehow I don't think calling oneself akiba-kei would make it much better, honestly. XD

Do you think it'd be a good idea to set up an outside forum/bbs for accepted maids and all maid cafe staff to discuss in? Or even a facebook group. Sorry for repeating the idea if you already made one.

I had thought of it, but is it necessary? All questions and inquiries are directed to maid cafe staff via authorized email, and all our maids are free to post here. I would like there to be a way for our maids to get to know each other, but somehow I feel that the forum would be used by our maids to ask questions rather than to socialize. I could give it a try, though. Although Facebook isn't a good place to discuss in, I could make a group for Networking purposes. :)

I'll post in this thread about it if anything comes up.

I feel sad because AX doesnt have a maid cafe.  So there is no maid cafe in Southern California and girls from So. Cal want to join maid cafe but they couldn't. :(

I apologize that you were unable to try out, but it is a huge preference that we are able to evaluate our maids in person. Perhaps I will think of an alternative on what to do, next year for SoCal maids. ^^

For maids who have attended our introductory meetings, you should have received an e-mail regarding your participation. Congratulations to those who made it!

And don't worry if you didn't. There's always next year. I anticipate to see all our new maids and guests having fun at Fanimaid Cafe 2009!

I'm not entirely clear on my opinion on this-- as I grew up in the Bay Area, which has a slew of different races and heritages, I had thought that pretty much everyone had to take an standardized English proficiency test of some sort, by some point. My first language was always marked as Mandarin/Putonhua. I had to go to an ESL program in elementary, but it didn't follow me to junior high or high school.

It is NOT racist, because it'd be plausible to test a student of their English proficiency, based on that English would not be their first language. It is based on the fact that she put down Lao as her first language, but not because she is Laotian. It would be the schools concern to make sure whether or not they are in need of help in improving their English, as schools feel the responsibility to aid their students into becoming functioning citizens of our country-- and without English, in an English-speaking country, people would typically struggle (both in working in our country, and attending school).

However, it IS slightly biased to issue her the test as the school should already know whether or not they should be concerned with their English based on her school performance, but the fact that it was recorded that English is not her first language, it isn't of racism to have her take a test proving that her English is fine. That, by itself, is a legitimate reason, and not racist.

Hello everyone!

First off, thank you so much for all those who have showed us so much support, thus far! The try outs for our maids are CLOSED, which means, if you hadn't attended the try out meetings, it is not possible to volunteer. Sorry!

All those who tried out should hear a response of whether or not they're confirmed by the end of this week. Best of luck to everyone!
