Big Event Showcase / Re: Masquerade feedback?
August 28, 2009, 08:27:52 AM
I had a good time at masquerade. True sometimes skits are always going to be drawn out too long, or the audio out of balance but hopefully the entrants will learn for the next year. Took a look at the pros and cons about the time length and find that the best solution in my own opinion is to have a scale.(mentioned previously in referance to wondercon)
If the max people in an entry is 12, then the best compramise for both camps is:
(example)
Walk ons 1:00
1-2 People 1:30
3-5 People 2:00
6-8 People 2:30
9-12 People 3:00
There are not too many large groups, but more medium ones keeping the time average for most groups 2-2:30, while allowing the people with a smaller group to not "drag on".

Great, thanks for the reply! That was very fast, you must be really on top of your game. You must have watched alot of Youtube. Will you have any of the masquerade winners at your panel? Have you ever won Best Performance or Best in Show? I am a vetran of Masquerades myself since 1999. What Masquerades, how many have you participated in? Any big official ones like AX, Comic-con or Fanime? Will you be covering those?

Ambitious! I finally made it to the boards and have been reading about panels. I cannot help but notice you are so ambitious about cosplay. That is very refreshing since some of my fellow cosplayers are beginners and these panels could be of use. My questions about this particular panel may be a little different since there are so many levels of cosplayers:
1.) Is the panel about how to win or how to be successful in cosplay in a performance? Within a group? Alone? with your costume? Your props? With judges?
2.) How genuine is the information? Is the panel created by a database of fact? Is it based on opinion?
3.) What credentials, experience and qualifications do the panelists have to obtain the stable ability to convey accurate and balanced instruction?

I'd like to see group category come back sometime. I would really like to see people who are professionally trained have their own category. Too many times someone who majors in some sort of singing and have had some sort of training dominates the scene by winning over and over again. Not only at Fanime but other local conventions that have karaoke as well. Many people are too kind to step foward and say so. I think that Novice intermediate and veteran should be reinstated.  ;)

I have a question about displays...
Are we allowed to have any hand made free standing displays? Such as a free standing cardboard backing to hand a cel on or a free standing rack for hanging cosplay garments on?
