hey, guys! I competed last year as well as my first time and made it to finals!  My story is...I decided to join the singing contest for fun since my friends pushed me to do so.  I thought I wouldn't make it to finals, so I didn't prepare a final song...but I ended up being a finalist, so I pulled the first song I knew from the karaoke list haha.  Make sure you pick all your songs, even if you think you might not make it to the finals, just like me haha

My history is:  I'm 20 years old studying Digital Media Art, Business, and currently working as an English tutor for Japanese international students and an application consultant for a Japanese start up company, Connectionpool.  I've been a frontman and guitarist for many bands, but I started a new band called, Minor SetbacK, where we write originals in Japanese.  We have so far performed with famous J-Rock/con bands, such as Phoenix Ash, The Stars at Dusk (aka Valkyrie Kiss), and akai Sky.  My influences are androp, ONE OK ROCK, Motohiro Hata, etc.

I am planning to compete again, cause I thought it'd be fun to do so again!  I hope seeing familiar and new faces next year! :)

Uh oh! Minor Setback is competing! AWESOME! :P
[/quote]

yeah!! representing my band up on stage this year! are you competing too?!  represent the local j-rock scene with me! :)

The songs I'm planning to sing are:

Prelim:  "Asa Ga Kuru Mae Ni" by Motohiro Hata // 秦基博の「朝が来る前に」 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpAOLEsjB2k
Final:  "Home" by Kiyama Yusaku (木山 裕策) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eioiTTG1AVQ

I'm also planning to do AcoustiKaraoke with my band and perform original Japanese songs!

When you guys see me, feel free to approach me, cause I might not approach you LOL <---shy

Hey, everybody! My name is Andrei, and I'm of mix Asian descent. I'm 19 years old and currently a student of San Jose State University, majoring in Digital Media and with a business minor. It will be my first time participating(though wait listed), but my 3rd time attending the convention. My only singing experience would be my role as vocalist and lead guitarist with my band, known as JUICEBOX. Please wait for us on KSJS radio, for we received a radio offer from them! I hope I make it in the contest, bu you'd definitely see me doing acoustikaraoke! I look forward to meeting all of you guys and watching all you talented singers! Let's make this a memorable one, as this will be my last fanime before I move to Kani-shi, Gifu, Japan to pursue my studies and a career.  Thank you all.

Woot!  Fellow SJSU student!  Though I'm getting my masters in French at SJSU. I did my undergrad at UC Berkeley.

>SuperSheba: Is your advice for me, for Crunchi, or both? Either way this is nice advice. Both my songs are pretty much in the high registry (Maasaki Endou and JAM Project in particular tends to be like that, but who doesn't like singing with the thought of 「もえるぜ」). For Sousei, it's actually decent if I reduce it to a Guy's high registry instead of going falsetto XD. Any other advice is appreciated. :D

Sorry, I was talking to Crunchi. :D  But it's true, a lot of the advice I have her applies to singing in general and would be helpful to anyone trying to improve his or her technique.

I can't wait to meet you all.

Wow. So many SJSU students. ^_^ I'm also a student at SJSU. Psychology Major with Japanese minor. Looking forward to meet my fellow Spartans.

yes x] well, SJSU is right there xD so what are everybody's favorite artists/bands?

Chiba is the singer of Sendai Kamotsu, which is basically the alter-ego of the visual-kei band, Nightmare.  Sendai Kamotsu is a comedic band, or a joke band, and most notably known as the side project of Nightmare.  A lot of j-rock bands, such as Radwimps, have alter-egos.  Sendai Kamotsu's members are the same as Nightmare's members:

Sendai Kamotsu = Nightmare
Chiba               = Yomi (vocals)
Satty               = Sakito (guitar)
Fullface            = Hitsugi (guitar)
Wen Chen Chen = Ni~ ya  (bass)
Gigaflare           = Ruka (drums

Don't address Igaguri Chiba with his Nightmare name, because he'll just say the fictional background story they made:  Igaguri Chiba is Yomi's younger brother.

In conclusion, Nightmare is a funny band who love to troll people.   It's also a great strategy that many bands use by having the same band open for themselves in a concert, under a funnier image for entertainment and fanservice.  Hope I helped anybody who has been confused!

Additional Notes:
Igaguri Chiba once went with the name Sendai Kamotsu for tours, but recently have changed their act under his name, like a solo-artist.  So I'm hoping for Chiba to bring the rest of the band with him, as I also wish they break out of their Sendai Kamotsu costumes, and play as their visual-kei Nightmare persona.

and to make things easier:
If you know the Death Note opening, "The World" by Nightmare...the vocalist of that band (Yomi) is Igaguri Chiba.
I see that your post is saying that Chiba = Yomi and the that Yomi's other band members are also members of Chiba's band. I must ask that you please refrain from posting rumors and speculation as it can cause massive confusion among everyone reading this thread. =/

ohohoho I see what you did there. Well noted! Sorry for the confusion and rumors! should I delete my statements? ;)

Hey everybody :)  Good luck to all contestants! I hope I make it in the list! It will be my first time competing.

Good luck to you too! This will be my second time competing. It was really fun last year! Also, I read your signature...
今 日本語 を 勉強していますか? きみ の 日本語 は あまり 下手 じゃない と 思いますけど。 もっと 勉強したら, 上手 に なれますよ。

うん!wwwありがとうございます!(I will type in English now, so people will understand) I am studying because I come from Filipino, Chinese, Japanese descent, have family members living there, and am weak in my native languages.  My girlfriend is also an international student from Chiba, and I am planning to move in with my family in Kani-shi, Gifu to further continue my studies and pursue a career in a year or so, meaning this might be my last Fanime in the states.
Anyways, I digress, good luck to everybody! Let's make this fanime karaoke contest and year memorable for everybody!

I'm sorry for all the commotion!  Our band, SOLANIN, wish to play as an opener for Music Fest as a performance after our graduation.  We're also normal Fanime attendees.  We play at around Daly City, started at a high school, and played for our annual Sakura Festival a long time ago held at our high school as our first performance.  We grew a small fan base from that, and they've been following us since.  A friend told us that a fan found out that we've been practicing AKFG songs for a set list for a possible audition, and announced it to the whole anime club today.  A friend has also told me that 3 people suggested us and somebody thought it was "spammy".  But we assure you, that it wasn't our intention to "spam", just supportive fans who want to suggest.  If you wish, we will try to stop them from suggesting us, if you feel that a person suggesting us is a bother.  We're sorry, and we apologize for our fans for seeming "spammy".

-Andrei from SOLANIN

Just wondering but was your name from the one shot manga called..well...Solanin?

Yes we are :]  too long to explain why we named ourselves Solanin. short ver: We were heavily influenced by AKFG, and we read Solanin, which we used for inspiration.  we made our own version for the lyrics Naruo Taneda wrote in the manga, then the trailer came out.  We were very excited, then we were even more surprised when AKFG played the theme for the movie adaptation.  oddly, it sounded similar. So we wanted to pay tribute to this moment, and remind us of how we really started as a band.

It's quite alright.  I was afraid it might look that way too.  Finding out who they are (cause what do you know, they messaged our band email saying they've suggested us), they are also fanime attendees.  Well at least littlekirby and ardeverci, we don't know tomete (well thank you tomete for suggesting us :D).  Again apologies, and thank you  ;)  Anyways, on with the suggesting! :]  good luck to Music Fest! youre doing a good job, I just found out that you guys got Yuya! I'm really excited now x]  still suggesting, STRAIGHTENER :D

My band, Solanin, is interested in performing as an opening act if MusicFest is still taking locals.  If MusicFest is still taking locals, may we get some information please? thank you :]

i'd say ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION, but Masafumi Gotoh (lead singer and guitar) stated that he would love to start a US tour, so that might conflict with Fanime Music Fest, cause his recording company is being strict with him.  Masafumi said he's been trying to convince them to let AKFG play in the US. Just something that all AKFG fans should know, but hopefully we see them soon play at a club like The Slims.

It'll be cool to see The Pillows again. I saw them perform at The Slims like a week before Fanime '10.  They were awesome!! they toured with Pop Chocolat, Monokuro, and The Noodles.

I wish Fanime Music Fest '11 the best of luck!

you guys should play some K-Pop too, its becoming really popular internationally.  Maybe Kara - "Honey" or 2PM - "Heartbeat"
#19
and I agree with the suggestion for Bump of Chicken. other suggestions would be Snowkel, Asian Kung Fu Generation, Sparta Locals.

My band would like to perform as an opener! :D if its okay, we have demo tapes that are in the making. Our choice of songs are Asian Kung Fu Generation (Ajikan).
