General Convention Discussion / Re: FanimeCon App
May 21, 2013, 06:46:06 AM
Just some constructive criticism here with the preface that I understand it is still very beta. And some of this will likely have to wait til Fanime 2014 if you guys plan on keeping it around:

~ Make hardware back buttons aliased to the on screen 'back' buttons in the top left. Hit the hardware button about 3 times now trying to back out of an event detail and got kicked back to the play store I was on
~ Somewhat out of your control-slash-can be done: Location and event tracking on the map. Part that is out of your control: Google Maps can do interior maps which would be amazing but usually requires said building owner to run with it. Between of the con center, Marriott, Hilton, Fairmont, etc.. that becomes greatly problematic. Location tracking on the con center layout ('Venues' page) is doable but complex and I haven't looked into the technical aspect personally but navigation/location on arbitrary layout maps has been done. All in all something possibly to look into for '14 if interested?
~ Landscape mode. Not a HUGE concern but as someone who is still rocking a 'lower' res 854x480 phone, some event titles are overflowing the screen quite a bit and being able to scroll the list in landscape mode would be a nice aesthetic.
~ Notification/'Want to attend' event tracker. A separate list of personally tracked events one wants to attend. Bonus points for utilizing active notifications ahead of time ie: 15/30 minutes or so before start time run a standard android notification.

Gaming / Re: Ninja Game
May 27, 2012, 11:45:01 AM
With the lack of floor space in the gaming hall this year with all the extra tables, I doubt it is going to be nearly as good as it has been in previous years. Was able to get huge circles in while leaving ample room for traffic. Smaller circles aren't nearly as fun or challenging. :)

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Hilton HDMI?

Very true. I would certainly call the front desk first before messing with it. Pretty much a case of front-desk-doesnt-want-to-oblige-itis.

It's mostly legalities and to get permission to show it would cost WAY more than those in charge would be willing to fork over, I'm sure. I know both Hilton and Marriott carry CN on their channel lineups. Other hotels are probably the same.

Although it is definitely against hotel policy and an 'at your own risk' type of deal: Should the given TV inputs on the side of the desk/counter not work, you can just hook into the back of the TV directly, disconnect the control box (little phone cable connected to the TV) and use the input button on the TV to switch through. Again, your own risk doing this and almost positive it is against hotel policies. But as long as you reconnect things as they were when you checked in, no one is the wiser. Did that last year at the Marriott hooking up the laptop for videos. Side panel didn't seem to work. Just went direct and it worked fine. Reconnected everything when we were done with it.

More tongue in cheek than anything: Prepare a more appropriate playlist of music to play around the con. It's not Christmas nor is it even July!  :P

Registration / Re: Questions about IDs!
May 24, 2011, 11:42:25 PM
Like Kyra_Maverick mentioned above: Reg staff aren't heartless. It isn't like they are cops busting you for driving with an expired license. The ID is merely to put a name to a face and proof that you are you. They could care less about the expiration date. Though just for good measure, do email them. But my guess is their official response will be about the same. Especially if the expiration was relatively recent.

Pretty sure if you went back to registration and talked to someone you could have had it fixed right there no problem. :)
