I sent you a pm, Kitteh about 3 minutes ago.

As I stated in the response, the woman you described may have been from Con-Ops.  Once again I apologize for any inconvenience you experienced and my department head for Safety has been personally notified of your incident and is currently investigating.  Their email is [email protected]

To the best of my knowledge, there were no Con Ops staffers involved in this incident.  The head of Safety has been notified of this issue, as well as the head of the Operations division and next year's con chair.

Regards,

heres kinda one thought on a different subject
do you think con ops would have a place to hold your weapon for you if you didnt have a place to put it and they denied you holding it? because for the first half of the day i wont have any place to put them if they say you cant carry those

I was trying to stay out of this one, since Safety owns the weapons policy and enforcement these days...

Con-ops does not provide a coat check / weapons check service.  I'm very sorry, but we just don't have the space, and personally I don't want to be liable if someone's beautiful prop accidentally got damaged in storage (piles of fragile props in boxes = something WILL get damaged).  We barely have room for the lost and found, let alone stuff with identified owners.

My recommendation to prop owners every year is to check with the concierge desks at the hotels.  Even if you're not a guest of the hotel, you can sometimes talk them into letting you check your props there.  It's not guaranteed, it's not officially sanctioned Fanime anything, but it's something I've seen some folks at that desk do on occasion, if folks ask nicely.

Wish I had better news for you.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Lost and Found

Lost & Found will be located in Convention Operations, Con Ops for short, as it has been every year since I took over the department back in 2002.

We will be located in the Willow Glen I room at the Marriott hotel, and we will be open the entire convention.  We usually open for business around 3 pm or so on Thursday, and we close on Monday when load out is complete.

If the Marriott is too far away, any Safety person should be happy to drop the item off in Con-Ops for you, since their base is just down the hall from us.  Please be sure to let them know where and when the item was found, since that can be helpful in identifying the correct owners.  Please don't just dump things on Registration or Dealers staff if you don't absolutely have to - they have their own jobs to do and it's a hassle for them to run stuff up to us.

After the convention is over, lost & found items are turned over to the folks that monitor the e-mail address help at fanime dot com.  Items are held for 6 months after the con, and then donated to charity if not reclaimed.

I think that Anyone with a sign will be told to remove it, unless it is part of a Cosply. If the sign holder clams the sign is, then the staffer/SOS member says "ok then if you wish to have the sign you and me can walk to Con Ops and they will check out your sign and make a judgment call on it." then If it is a cosply sign your sign will get a Tag Just like for a weapon. then you would have your sign, and if anyone stops you for it you can show them the tag saying its ok.

First, I'll start by saying that if signage is banned, Con-Ops has not been informed of it, and we certainly have not been asked to enforce it.  Consider us Switzerland on this one.  We are not in the business of deciding what is and is not cosplay, and will be making no decisions on what does or does not fall under such a policy, if it exists.

Second, I think you have Con-Ops confused with Rovers (now called Safety).  Con Ops will be located in the Willow Glen I room in the Marriott.  We will be there all weekend (24 hours a day) with answers to questions, lost and found, missing badges, etc.  Safety is the team with the radios that roves around and does crowd control and props tagging.  If there were a sign ban, Safety would be responsible for enforcement, not Con Ops.

If you need to find your lost cell phone, or to get hold of someone on staff, my team is there and ready to help.  For questions on signs, we're likely to just read the policy on the website to you if one is posted, or point you down the hall to Safety for more information.
