Okay, don't shoot me just yet; hear me out.

So, I'm really green about the whole commission trade.  From what I understand I, the customer, would pay a certain amount of money to have an artist draw a customized picture of a character that isn't already displayed at their booth.  If this is completely wrong, please correct me.

On to my main question:  Would I be able to commission a picture of a non-game, non-anime character.  See, I wrote a little fanfiction back when I was 17 about a girl running away to live with two vampires, a werewolf-demon and a psychic (Quizilla anyone?).  Anyway, you know the joke about writing fanfiction because you can't draw? In my case, its pretty true.  But as a writer I have the image of my characters vividly alive in my head, but the inability to draw those images myself.

Getting to the point, if I could just describe to the artist what my characters look like and a setting I want them to be in would I be able to ask for this at Fanime?  And if so, how much time would I need to give the artist for this work?  And how much would it be estimated to cost?  Please help  ;D

Hello Everyone,

As stated in my subject line I'm a third time FanimeCon goer, but this year will wear an accessorized cosplay.  I'll be going as a Tonberry (from the Final Fantasy game series) and intend on making my lantern and small knife out of cardboard and paint (most likely will stay a 2-Dimensional prop, but may upgrade to a 3-D prop if I have the time).

What I wanted to ask is that if my small knife is going to be so obviously fake and attached to my wrist at all times with a small rope, do I still need to get it peace-bonded?  Same question about the lantern.  And do I need to keep it sheathed because it's a "sword-like prop"?  I know these may seem like stupid questions, but I've never cosplayed with props before and need to know the rights from wrongs.
