Hey everyone! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it didn't seem like it would fit in any of the other subforums. But getting down to business...

I'm looking for someone in the San Diego area who is going to and from Fanime this year who might have a spare spot in their car that I could fill with myself and contributions towards gas money. All I need is a ride to and from, and I am fairly flexible about the when and where as long I get up there. Unfortunately I don't have enough to pay for a flight and don't know anyone else here that's going this year, so I'm on the lookout for someone that I could ride with. I travel fairly light (no more than one suitcase) and would be immensely grateful if anyone in the area could provide me transportation (or knows someone who could provide me transportation).

On a related note, if anyone has any other recommendations about finding transportation to/from Fanime from where I live, that would also be immensely appreciated! I am really hoping to go to Fanime this year (it's one of the cons I've gone to every year since high school) and this is my first year in college away from the bay area. Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice!

Hey everyone! I went to Fanime this year as the tenth Doctor from Doctor Who, the one in the blue suit with maroon converse and the brown coat. If anyone grabbed some pictures of me and wants to send me them over PM I would love to see em! Thanks!

Just got confirmation from another one of my friends that I could borrow their lighter, much better keyboard (mine is a stupid piece of heavy junk) for the con, but I probably won't be able to leave it there for Monday (I check out of my room Sunday morning). I'll ask my pianist friend tomorrow if he'd be up to it on Sunday, and I'll keep you posted.

Okay, can definitely make the Friday one. Do you only need a pianist for the FFVII and FFIX gatherings in particular? I could also play To Zanarkand at the FFX gathering if you'd like (Although a keyboard doesn't really do it justice like a grand piano does). And yeah, I'm really annoyed that this thing came along and hit me out of the blue, but it's not something I should miss. I can also ask another attending pianist I know if he'd be interested in playing on Sunday. As for Monday I'm not sure if I'll go to the con that day, I'll try to let you know ASAP.

Also, I don't know whose coordinating for the FFVII gathering, but we could always talk to them about changing time spots to something later or a different day.

Well, I've run into a bit of a speed bump. Unfortunately on Sunday an opportunity arose that I can't pass up, so I'm going to be leaving the con for most of the day and returning around 7 PM (I'm very sad that I'll miss the FFVII gathering D:). I can, however, make room on Saturday to show up at any gatherings we plan to play at. Can you give me an idea of what times you need me to be there?

The running theory, of course, is that for your average male geek, your chances of running into a girl that shares your interests are much better by going to an anime convention. While this is true, there are a large number of other factors you have to consider.

Geek girls, much like werewolves, dragons, the babel fish, and other mythical creatures often conceal their true natures so as to blend in with their surroundings. This intriguing camouflage ability is noticeably lacking in the large majority of their male counterparts (and in fact ends up confusing them), and anime conventions are one of the few places where these specimens will reveal their true geekish tendencies and gather the interest of the common male geek. This results in many cases of what is often known as "stupid geek syndrome", as such a radical change in behavior deeply confuses the male geek.

Because geek girls have this camouflage reflex, however, it is more than likely that the specimen will already have a mate, thus turning any advances by a male geek into the equivalent of social suicide (and even in many cases where the specimen has no mate). As a result, male geeks are placed in a predicament where by seeking one of these newly revealed geek girls, they must refrain from pursuing this objective until a time at which such can be done without scaring the specimen away.

For the period of first contact with the rare specimen, which often means the entirety of Fanime weekend, a male geek must simply try to form common ground with the geek girl, most likely using the current subject matter (anime). The levels of success in this task depend upon the geek's intuition, the amount of time (too much contact could spare the specimen away), and eventually the ultimate goal of forming means of regular contact with said specimen by the end of the convention. Should this step be reached, the male geek may then have a chance at pursuing a relationship with the specimen over a period of time afterwards. Although this period of time is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to the amount of follow-up communication, the geek girl's life status, and other interests in the male geek's life, a chance at a relationship with the rare geek girl is now infinitely more likely than what it would be if the male geek succumbs to stupid geek syndrome.

This scientific theory is brought to you buy the ongoing study of the female creature by GWTMTTH (Geeks With Too Much Time on Their Hands). Please report all findings from experimentations and variations of this theory to the head research division. Thank you for your time.

...okay, now I'm going to stop procrastinating with stupid humor and get to sleep.

Where/when do we sign up?

Quick, someone counter-jinx it.

Just checked out both pieces, both are pretty simple and I'd be happy to play. Still working on getting the keyboard functional though. And you know, seeing as there are two parts, maybe we could split the difference and take one each? I'll be bringing my solo piano sheet music to the con anyway in case I see a grand piano (managed to do this last year and the year before at JTAF). As far as preference for which piece (if you're alright with doing one of the two pieces) I'd like to do the FFVII World Theme, as I'll be cosplaying Zack Fair and barely know anything about FFIX.

I'm also gonna be busy Saturday at 2 PM (due to the SSBX tourney) and won't be at the con Monday.

http://www.sanjose.org/visitors/eat/distance.php

Has a whole list of restaurants by distance away from the Convention Center, all of which are ranked on a price scale. I made a map in Google Maps of all the least expensive restaurants in the area for anyone who'd like to use it.

What is the pianist needed for?

The pianist is needed for a few small ensemble pieces. If you are interested, I can send you parts. Just post your email and I can send you the stuff!

I have a very large, bulky keyboard that I'm not sure even works, so if anyone can bring one or if a piano can be provided it would be much easier for me. I'll see if I can get mine working just in case. I already play a bunch of Final Fantasy and anime pieces solo, so this should be a walk in the park. :D

We got lucky, the past five days around the Bay Area we've been suffering a heat wave ranging in the high 80s - low 90s. I like the convention better when it's not super hot, means less people will be passing out due to dehydration. XD And hey, just cause it's not blazing hot doesn't mean the pool will be ignored.

Ah, sorry. Could the thread maker update the first post so I can see what spots aren't taken?

Depending on what time/day this is, I might be interested in being the player for the black side. Cosplaying as Zack Fair SOLDIER 1st class.
