General Convention Discussion / fanime 2007 dates
July 19, 2006, 11:50:08 AM
Quote from: swordman85so its definatly 25th through 28th? ...does that include the day for preregistered people?

FanimeCon 2007 is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend 2007, the dates of which being Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28, 2007.

As for the second part of your question, if I'm understanding it properly, the answer is this: If you're going by past FanimeCon precedents, then pre-registered badge pick ups may occur on Thursday, May 24, 2007. "May" being the keyword as that decision is left to the discretion of the Registration Department Manager, and that is not I.

Holy Wow!  :D Thanks for all the great notes; I couldn't make some of the panels and this is a great way to "be there" without well, you know, actually having been there.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Barracks
June 02, 2006, 06:02:36 PM
Quote from: kam_islashMy idea is this: We use one of those big empty rooms to house 20-40 odd beds, cots, or futons to create a sort of communal sleeping room for people without rooms.  It could even have a fantasy setting theme to be like an Inn.

-There would be blankets and pillows available.
-The room will always be dark and quiet with the heat on

Hopefully this will curb people going insane from lack of sleep which causes hallucinations, anxiety, and an impairment of judgement.

Only if you'll:

1. Negotiate a contract with the SJCC to that effect on you own time and dime
2. Pay for the room for all days of the con
3. Pay for the futons/beds/cots/what-have-yous
4. Pay for the pillows
5. Pay for the blankets
6. Pay for the shipping fees of items
7. Pay for the union workers to move the items into the room
8. Set up and follow through on a way to keep people's stuff safe while they're sleeping
9. Be prepared to take on the consequences should anything happen to people and/or property while in the room
10. Be prepared for parents who may oppose the idea
11. Be prepared to stay glued to that room unless you've volunteers to help you man the place
12. Be prepared for futons/beds/cots/pillows/blankets to possibly "walk off by themselves"

Oh, I'm sure that I'm missing a few things here and there, but if you can't do at least the items listed above (starting with item #1), then a big and hearty:

NO.

Thank you, and good day.

[edit] Oh, and be prepared to deal with any and all body odor. People WILL complain, and they'll all be directed to you at that time.

Yes, thank you for posting to clear up any misunderstandings, Yuuki.

Just remember folks...

FanimeCon staffers: We're really not...(wait, wait, wait )...They're really not that mean!

Quote from: Chocolate LoverDon't hold your breath waiting for Mari to return to Fanime. She was treated rudely by the staff of Fanime '02 and left the convention in a cloud of dust.

Now I'm not sure where you heard this from, but I'd love to know the source and which "staff" you're talking about. Considering that Mari was my guest at the time, I still have a vested interest, as Guest Relations always strives to make FanimeCon's guests happy while visiting with us.

As the stance of FanimeCon's weapons policy has been stated above, this thread is now locked.

FanimeCon is following the legal laws as set by the City of San Jose and State of California in regards to the weapons policy that we have in place. If you are unhappy with those laws, please take it up with the city and the state. Until that time, we will comply with the set laws because otherwise, we wouldn't be able to host this convention, which would moot this entire thread I think.

The reality is that FanimeCon is made up of more than 1 person. In fact, it is not just fans (both staff and attendees). It is also made up by staff of the hotels, of the convention center, of the city and state, and by the law enforcement officials that get called out to be on site for certain instances.

Just don't let one of the instances that the police get called out be something you're involved in that is in violation of convention, city, and/or state policies.

kam_islash, this is your first warning as you've made terrorist stereotypes against the entire Muslim culture. It is unwanted here.

Quote from: kam_islashOtakus are not terrorists.
Interested in Japanese culture, not muslim culture
Wooden swords are not bombs.
A person trying to hurt someone with a sword is easily subdued, especially if mor epeople around him have swords.
Furthermore, you can't hijack a convention center and crash it into a building.

Fanime had no right to use 9-11 as an excuse for peace tying because anime and game swords have absolutely nothing to do with terrorism.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Next Year...
June 17, 2005, 04:19:22 PM
Quote from: PassingTheBuckI promise to be a gentler, kinder person...
I promise to listen more often to those who are whining around me...
I promise not to use the 'Fist of Death' on Fanboys who think they are funny after throwing up on the new carpet outside Ballroom ‘A’...
I promise not to try and bury any more Fanboys bodies inside the convention center...
I promise to smile through clenched teeth to the prattling of FanGirls who think they are cute, but who are very drunk and couldn’t walk straight to save their lives...
I promise not to consider playing 'drop kick to the freeway from the top of the hotel roof' those who move my DDR machines...
I promise to smile more often when I want to scream at Fanboys who can't figure out what a shower is used for...
I promise to not to run over any more Fanboys who sleep in the middle of the concourse, thinking it’s their bedroom…
I promise to enjoy the humor of someone getting masking tape to a pillar before I want to pull out my flamethrower and use it on them…
I promise not to think about cutting off the hands of anyone found to have been stealing in our Dealers’ Room…
I promise to get more sleep and not wonder if the hotel is on fire when ConOps calls me in the middle of the night…
I promise to see the humor in shopping cart races in the middle of a crowded concourse as they chase a man in a six foot tall squirrel costume…
I promise that I will not hassle Fanboys sleeping in the Video room by screaming at them, that I am Death and you’re next on my list, in their exposed ear…
I promise that next year I will be a kinder and gentler person...

But then you wouldn't be you, the crochety old man that we all know and love!  :P

Aww!  :(

Maybe this year you can actually lounge with the guests, instead of being their nanny for the weekend!

Yes, I hope to just hang out with people in 2006!   :D

Sadly, when I talked to him at the con last year, he said he had no intention of coming back to Fanime in the future. He wouldn't give me any specific reasons, but he seemed pretty sure of himself =/ But we'll try extending an invitation anyway...

Please refrain from making remarks on behalf of the Guest Relations Department that deals with invitations. Wouldn't want misunderstandings to occur! :)

Moving this to "General Anime Chat". Good luck with the planning.

Hi guys,

Since JTAF is over and is not about Fanime, I'm going to move this thread over to the "General Anime Chat" forum. Glad you all had fun this year at both cons. :)
