Dealers Room / Re: Dishonest Dealers from 2014
June 02, 2014, 11:17:23 PM
Bootleg is a completly different category as that is something that per the contract the Dealers' all sign shouldn't be in the hall. Buyer beware applies for prices of collectables, which in this case vintage/out of print magazines and there derivatives are.
You still are forgetting the labor in aquiring, sorting, and bagging (since mounting seems to offend you) Which is $$$.
I am not the seller, but I go to enough shows to know what the value on vintage stuff is. If there's a market why call shame on it.

BTW love the whole last post basically reads blah blah blah got to get the last word blah blah blah...

Mounting is still mounting. The bag and board alone is a buck or two. The labor/time to cut the pages and mount them adds another couple bucks.

If people don't understand what they are looking at when they buy something that is usually their own fault. As the old saying goes "buyer beware." If this is the only way to get that artwork and someone wants to buy it what's wrong $5-15 a crack.

Your basically arguing against the whole vintage/collectables market. Where else is the fan going to find the artwork/magazine. Simply put Supply & Demand.

This isn't so much dishonest as it is taking advantage of people who don't know any better, but there was a booth selling "mounted" magazine pages for like $5-10 a pop. CRAZY! I literally mean magazines PAGES from Animage, NewType, Animedia, etc. Magazine bonuses like posters and pencil boards or clear files I can imagine, but these people cut out pages of magazines and sold them one-by-one for like 5 bucks each. Even two-page spreads were cut and sold separately.

I seriously hope no one bought any of these, and I think the FanimeCon dealers room would be better off without sellers who try to rip off anime fans like this. Unfortunately I don't remember which booth it was but they were near the end of one of the lanes iirc. They also sold the covers of magazines mounted for about $10 each which were displayed against the back wall.

Reality check.... this is how the world of collecting works. Vintage posters/magazines are hard to come by. Otherwise, why would people bother to collect (free) concert posters from venues such as the Fillmore? Why would people bother to collect past issues of Rolling Stone? There's artwork in those anime magazines that fans would LOVE to collect, but wouldn't want to purchase a whole magazine just to have ONE page from a specific series. And don't forget, finding magazines & cutting out each page to have them mounted is LABOR intensive....that's also included in the price. Charging $5-$15 IS a reasonable price. That's like saying a frame shop shouldn't charge for labor if you just buy the picture frame alone and expect them to professionally mount your image.

Remember, the dealer isn't twisting/forcing your arm to purchase his products. If you don't like their prices, keep on walking.

Here's a hotel tip:

When booking, always request for a low floor to avoid the elevators. IE: Floors 4, 5, or 6. *I* always make this request if it's possible. It's faster to take the stairs and avoid the smelly people when you're in a hurry.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: The hug line

I do agree that if huggers do hug you without your consent that is indeed inappropriate, but I don't think this should be banned because of a small group of kids misrepresenting another group.  You can't say all huggers are loud, annoying, and inappropriate because not all of them are.  That's just discrimination.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

This is not discrimination.

As ridiculous as this may sound to others, hugs ARE considered sexual harassment whether it's consensual or not. Go ahead. Ask the HR office at ANY professional business when you get your @ss hired. They'll make you sit in front of a TV watching a video that explains what is considered harassment in a working environment and make new employees sign off as part of their training & introduction.

Are we going overboard? Maybe. But it really depends on the person who wants the hug and if they can behave "appropriately". Personally, if some random stranger gave me a hug, that gives me reason to knock the f*ck out of them to the other side of the convention center since they touched me *first* - it's called self-defense.

To each his own, I guess.

Maid Cafe/Criticisms:
How often do you go to a restaurant and tell your waiter/waitress that the food and service is shitty? In the REAL WORLD of things, there are very few people who will voice out their opinions because everyone knows this unspoken rule: Don't piss off the people who handle your food!! There many times when I hold back my tongue at restaurants when the waiters would stop by and ask "how is everything?". While most positive reviews are fine and dandy, how many more people actually held their tongue?

Glompers:
It's obvious that some people don't understand the seriousness of sexual harassment and assault. It is a violation of a person's privacy and should not be taken lightly. If it was up to me, I’d kick the glompers in the balls, then I’d politely ask them to please “knock it off”. And from what I heard this past weekend, they will not stop if you “ask” them to. They will move on to their next target.

Hallway Bums:
If you can't afford a damn hotel room, go sleep at a friends house or in your car. SJCC is considered PUBLIC PROPERTY. FanimeCon PAYS for this event space. This event space does not belong to you, the homeless bums.

Medical Emergencies:
When someone yells at you to get away from a group of paramedics and EMTs, there's a reason why. They need space to work on the patient!! People need to stop taking cosplay pictures at the wrong time. And what is up with the cameras? How would you like it if you passed out unconciously and some random person started taking pictures of you while the medics were trying to stabilize you?

It's always the same 3 people who have a problem with him that in the past few years, they have to go against him and it was no surprise that even when JTAF was announced, they started bashing the event right away that the Bay Area doesn't need another event and other ridiculous theories.

It's far BEYOND just 3 people. Some are not even Fanime related people.

People have wanted to see an anime/cosplay event in Japantown and he and the staff made it happen.

It's called the Cherry Blossum Festival. It's always sponsored by major companies such as Bandai, Viz, AD Vision, etc....and they've always had a cosplay parade.
