The problem now is finding people who aren't across the country to be in it.  :'(

Unless a miracle happens, I'll almost certainly need to wait till next year's Fanime to perform it.  I'm looking for all of Yuna's guardians except for Kimahri.

This is going to need lots of rehearsing as a group, but if worst comes to worst, we can memorize our scripts on our own, meet up once to record the whole thing, and then practice REALLY hard at the con before the Masquerade.  Also, I need someone who can record/burn CDs since my recording program is on the fritz.

For the actual skit, it's essentially FFX set to RENT's music.  Plot in a nutshell:  Yuna and Tidus sort of admit their feelings (using about a minute of "I Should Tell You"), and then everyone gets together and parties before their huge battle against Sin ("La Vie Boheme B").

It's about 2:30 minutes long and everyone needs singing experience (duh), but a LARGE part of this skit involves dancing like in "La Vie Boheme B"--if you can't/won't dance for whatever reason, this skit is not for you.  I'll cut Lulu and Auron some slack, but everyone else should be able to dance for most of it.

90% completed draft:
-
[Everyone sits in a circle, as in the beginning/end of FFX.  Tidus puts a hand on Yuna's shoulder.  After he lets go, Rikku comes over.]

Rikku:  What do we do?  We don't have a plan to save Yunie yet!

Tidus:  I don't know, but we'll come up with something.  I promise!

Yuna:  Tidus?  Can I... talk to you for a moment?

Tidus:  Huh?  Sure, go ahead!

Yuna:  Um...  (sings)  I should tell you, I'm having my doubts about the Final Aeon.

Tidus:  (sings) I've been trying to find out a different way to bring the Calm.

Yuna:  I should tell you--

Tidus:  I should tell you--

Both:  I should tell...
          Well, here we go.
          Now we...

Yuna:  Oh, no.
Tidus:  I know, this something is... here goes.

Both:  Who knows where?  Who goes there?
Looking for answers to find the way
Trying to live through another day
Clinging to hope for another choice
Now at the ending, we find our voice
So here we go...  Now we...

Tidus:  Oh, no.
Yuna:  I know.
Tidus:  Oh, no.

Both:  Who knows where?  Who goes there?

[As they finish, La Vie Boheme B's intro starts and the rest of the group brings a low table onstage (if possible--if not, Yuna just goes to the center.)]

ALL:  To dance!
Yuna:  No way to make a living,
          Pyreflies and no defenses,
          Years spent on the pilgrimage,
          Shortened lives and summoning!

ALL:  Guards!
Lulu:  (gets on as Yuna gets off)  Adventure, tedium, no family, waiting in temples,
          Magic, risk of failure, egos,
          Battles, Zanarkand, unease!

All:  Blitzers!
Tidus:  ________, _________,
          Admiration, lots of pressure,
Power, status, money, ________, and heavy competition!

ALL:  Anarchy!

Auron and Rikku:  Revolution, justice, screaming for solutions,
          Forcing changes, risk and danger,
          Making noise and making pleas!

ALL:  To airships, blitzers, thieves, and unsent too!

Wakka:  To me!
Rikku:  To me!
Auron:  To me!

ALL:  (pointing on each "you")  To you and you and you, you, and you!
To people living with, living with, living with--
           Not getting killed by Sin!
Let she who wants to bring the Calm be the first to condemn...
           La Vie Boheme!
           La Vie Boheme!

Tidus or Auron: Anyone out of the mainstream
           Is anyone IN the mainstream?
Anyone alive or with nothing to hide
Tear down the wall!  Aren't we all?
The Final Aeon won't bring us peace--just destruction!

ALL:  (Cheers)  La Vie Boheme...

[A few seconds of dancing on the table as the music slows down.  Then, everyone faces the audience.]

ALL: Viva... La Vie... Boheme!  (punch the air)

Please feel free to post if you want to be in this.  If you have any suggestions for Tidus' lyrics, I'm good with that, too.

I'm going to need FFX Yuna's guardians--anyone can chime in, but I don't recommend a Kimahri cosplayer because the skit involves lots of dancing.

Around May, I had an idea for a skit to RENT's La Vie Boheme B, and a lot of people said it sounded like a good break from the usual parody/humor skits. There's a good chance that the audience will like my skit as is, even if they don't know RENT or FFX.

-
It starts out with everyone sitting like in the beginning of the game, when they're at the edge of Zanarkand. Yuna and Tidus sing about thirty seconds of Roger and Mimi's "I Should Tell You," where it's revealed that Yuna's going to die if she summons the Final Aeon (and they love each other). I'm only using thirty seconds of that because we have a time limit, and I don't want to bore the audience to death.

After Tidus and Yuna finish, everyone else comes up and we all dance on the table and sing "La Vie Boheme B" to get our spirits up for the epic battle against Sin. XD If we can't use a table, we just dance onstage.

The skit is currently about two minutes, and I'm trying to get it a little shorter to allow for applause time.

-
Requirements besides being an FFX cosplayer/RENT-head:
-Basic singing experience. La Vie Boheme B isn't classic opera, but you need a sense of rhythm and good pronunciation.

-A costume that you can move and dance in. It's REALLY important for everyone to start dancing at the drop of a hat, which is why I'm willing to forgo accuracy for comfort (and safety if we're allowed to get ).

-Tidus needs slightly more singing abilities, since he's going to sing a short duet with Yuna (me).

-Someone needs a CD burner so we can record the audio--I'm rewriting the lyrics to "I Should Tell You" and "La Vie Boheme B."

-You need to live in the San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland or Alameda preferred). We CAN practice individually and smooth things out before the masquerade rehearsal, but I would rather we be able to rehearse together as well.

If anyone wants what I've written of the skit so far, just PM me and I'll type it up.

Tifa_girlie:  YAY!  FFX Rikku!  I've added you to the list.

I'd like a free photoshoot.  Just for starters, I won't be there on Friday, and I'll probably be leaving early on Monday, so Saturday and Sunday are your best bets.

Registration / Yet another ID question.
May 18, 2008, 01:26:43 PM
I know that the forums are littered with these, but unless I've been looking for the wrong threads, I haven't seen anything related to my problem.

1.  I know that school IDs are passable when picking up your badge, and luckily I have both that and my government ID.  I'll also get my postcard and stash it somewhere safe this week.

2.  My niece has neither government OR school ID (her elementary school doesn't give them), and she's not entirely sure if her passport's still valid.  She's going to check once she gets back to her mom's house.  If her passport's not valid, this would leave her with only her postcard.  Leading to my actual question:

3.  My sister and I are her aunts, and obviously her guardians for Fanime--we're also legal adults, in case that matters.  Would we be able to back her up during the identity-proving part of her registration?

Final Fantasy X/X-2 gathering!

Day:  Saturday
Time:  2PM
Location:  Fountain

Thanks for clarifying!  It's generally planned for Saturday, but nothing is really set in stone right now.

A Live-Action Wolf's Rain would be freaking SWEET--but only if they put a lot of effort into it.  I mean LOTS.  No CG wolves and no flashy "transformations" because they AREN'T transforming from wolves to humans or vice versa.

Also, no editing of Tsume or Quent's cussing because that is LAME.

It isn't human-nature to classify animation as children's entertainment, it was our upbringings... which was pretty much explained in further above posts, how that mentality was initially created.

Americans already had the concept of using animation to raise spirits, keeping them all generally happy, cute, and comedic. Most late night cartoons are adult comedy. Japanese animation ... has more of a variety of genres and appeal for a diverse audience, ranging from comedy, to romance, to drama, to any genre that has had a non-animated TV show, for a variety of age-groups. Since that isn't as common in comparison, people here automatically associate anime with the general nature of American cartoons. If someone doesn't understand something, in a lot of cases, they compare and associate it with something within their understanding, that's familiar, and sometimes assume that it's nearly the same. Just how things are.

Aside from the useful tangent about WWII, which has already been explained, I agree with Jun-Watarase--we had a plethora of things hitting us at nearly the same time, and we needed something to keep us from sinking into mass emotional depression on top of our economic depression and post-war shock.  Cartoons were the perfect medium for that.

I've been an anime fan for at least three years and I STILL get shocked whenever something drastically emotional happens in an anime, like Full Metal Alchemist and the infamous Episode 25.  The last four episodes of Wolf's Rain, though--they made me lose every drop of hope for almost a week.  I love that show, but it's such a horrific downer at the end that I was in pieces at the end.  Other WR fans will almost unanimously agree.  If I tried to explain why I had such an extreme reaction to someone who hasn't watched it, or isn't familiar with anime, they'd either get confused or be condescending that I'm so hung up about a cartoon.

The main difference between anime and Western animation is that no matter what the audience, the creator/manga-ka will make the characters as human as possible; they have flaws like real people (like near-selfish determination or being a total jackass, not just "he has a bad temper" or "he's so determined he forgets to eat"), and complain about stupid things like real people do.  With Western animation, there's almost none of those human qualities in the characters.  Part of it stems from how we first used cartoons, and a large part now is to make everything family-friendly.  (The news mentioned something about Sesame Street being "not safe for kids."  SESAME STREET.)

Keep in mind that a lot of mainstream anime IS targeted at kids and teens, and there's not much focus on anything else unless you actively look for it.

I'm sorry, but I can't change the entire DAY of the shoot just for one person's convenience.  I can move it earlier or later, though, and on Cosplay.Com we're thinking about 3PM.

And please keep in mind that we've got plenty of time to sort things out, because it's barely the second-last week of January.

Oathkeeper, I've added you and your friend to the list.  :)

Wonderly, I've added you as Thief Rikku, since that's the one everyone means when they say X-2 Rikku :).

Okay, everyone has been added.

Last year I saw a couple of very accurate Aurons, a Wakka, AND a cool Tidus!  Let's hope they come again!

Well, I've already listed you.  :D  You don't have to reply on TWO forums.
