I wasn't too concerned with the extreme forms of maid service.. I was mostly sad that there wasn't much personal maid time and that more maids were in the photo area than the actual cafe area... I like watching skirts bounce as cute maids walk by. XDDDDDD

Hey guys!

I LOVED my time at the ball. And I know that most of my issues have been addressed already so I'll just lightly go through them and others.

Dress code: Naruto Headbands + formal attire. As ridiculous as it seems, the idea of the BW Ball at Anime Conventions was to showcase elegant cosplay and lots of creative interpretations of a character. I know that there was a VERY strict rule on shoes, and I snuck by with my jazz sneakers.. but I do believe that solid colored shoes should be allowed. I refused to wear heels (seeing how I was in male cosplay) and I don't have dress shoes suitable for dancing (nonetheless male ones). And sticky floors + suede = BAD. I'd rather go in some bowling shoes from the AMF nearby. I prefer to wear the comfies to dance, ESPECIALLY after only about 4 hours on that floor was KILLING me in my jazz sneakers. Craig! My server outfit was fine! XPPPP My apron makes me look sexy. And more square.

Dancing and Music: I AM AN AVID FAN OF METAL MACARENA. You will not hear it anywhere else, and I love it. And since it's played at the end of the night, WHY NOT? Esp not after the 4 swings, lindyhop, fast swing. I thought I was going to die. But I saw the lindy hop and couldn't resist the rest. ^.^

I am a terrible dancer. I will freely admit that after 15 years of trained dance. (yes, it's sad.) But I was a dance FAKER. I went out to the wallflowers and taught a little idea of the steps, and messed up the steps, but I believe all of my partners had a great time. I loved VWaltz, and I can usually only do it at DickensFair, on a much smaller floor. But even through all my blundering, no one got hurt, or hit too badly, because a good lead should ALWAYS watch their surroundings. "Oh crap.. everyone closed in... okay, on three, I'm going to lead you very fast to that open space right there. Try not to fall."

Also, VWaltz for space... it's not that hard to get on the mic and say "CounterClockwise PLOX!" I think. Conga Lines are terrible. I think we should ban them from BWBALL. I would only accept them for JumpInTheLine. BTW!!!!! Craig you owe me a Mazurka! I don't care if you're dead by the end of ball!

Foxtrot Mixer.... Straight lines? WTF? I watched Dan do it, but I was still confused and I apologized to my partners afterward. And evidently other people were confused, since they piled on the floor and did their own thing. I'm used to Foxtrot mixers counterclockwise... Perhaps diagonal next year? Compromise? AND MORE MIXERS!

I'm afraid I am one of your terrible complaints about people moving quickly across the floor. I love VWaltz and move accordingly, and I don't believe I can actually tango.. though I hope I wasn't as bad as the Hollywood StarStruck Tangoers. But as a terrible dancer dancing with beginners (and I did warn them I was a faker beforehand) I was able to dance to just about everything due to my lack of beat sense. I don't think that I hurt anyone or cut off a maneuver doing what I did though. SO NO DANCE TEST OR TICKETING!!! *I also happen to slave away at Registration... and not be able to go to any of said dance lessons*

BAG CHECK PLOX.

Dance Floor... we've heard enough. I was lucky enough that when I forgot.. (which was often...) I could lift my partner or maneuver away safely. Please Circulate the air!!! Yet another reason to have more VWaltz. Counterclockwise + Fast = Fan!!!! ^.^ lulz And sore feet. (but that didn't stop me from dancing til 4am! XD)

I half wish that more experienced dancers (ie instructors, Craig, vols) were more active in choosing beginner partners... Only because I live a fairytale fantasy where the amazing dancer comes to me out of nowhere and asks me to dance... a Prince Charming fairytale... I did it myself to create that fantasy for other girls. But I understand that you guys need a break and it's fun to dance with another experienced dancer. (I <3 a good lead... because I'm a terrible one. XD)

Yup. I think that is it for now... But Sunday night was MY night of Fanime. Let's do it again next year guys!

It seems that people did have a good time at the cafe! I'm glad for it, though my experience was not too great.

I came in about 1pm-1:30pm on Sunday, and had a group of four. I disliked choosing the food and paying upfront, but I know that it really can't be helped sometimes. (Sigh.. politics and the union) Prices were expensive for size portions, but the garlic wrap was yummy.

There were lots of cute maids! That was a serious plus from last year, and they all seemed very polite. The Host maid was demure and polite and very cute. (however, someone ran up to say that 2 maids would not be able to come to work, which is a BIG no-no in my book, but it was a hush-hush deal).

Our host maid (I couldn't read the tags very well because they were adorable and in pen and I'm blind) seated us at a small table. I couldn't quite understand this. There were bigger tables open, and we got seated at a table that had us bumping knees, save for the fact that two of my companions were petite.

The server maid came by with the tray of food, which was just about as big as the table. She was very softspoken and for the space that we were in, and the fact that I was NEXT to her, I couldn't hear her very clearly. I know that there isn't much we can do about food serving, but the big cafeteria tray was terrible. I would rather have her do several trips with a cuter tray or at least a smaller one. Her words were also hurried with her goshujin-sama and ojou-samas. It may have been for her moe-type though. After she dropped off the food, she went off, and we enjoyed our meal. But she didn't come back...

During this time we were able to observe the cafe. In the actual cafe itself, there were plenty of maids. By the tables, there were 3 maids. Generally, we are paying not for the food, but for the maid atmosphere. Most of the maid atmosphere was centralized around maids at the photo area and hanging around the host desk. It is understandable to have one server maid to a table, but having idle maids wander the tables area would be nice... Rather than only being able to see them doing the "maid harem photoshoot." After observing all this, we were wondering where our server maid was. She showed up again, apologized for the wait, then cleared our plates. Having trained for a maid style cafe before, I was wondering where all the bowing and curtsying was. There wasn't even really a quick bob of a curtsy from either of our maids.

Determined to create a better experience for ourselves, we stuck around the cafe, noting differences from the years before and idle chatter. Lucky us, the maids did a little dance performance for the cafe (though it was more entertaining to watch the music cue guy doing a mock of the dance from the floor.) Our maid was in the performance, and did not return for quite a while after and asked if we wanted to take a picture with the maids. One of our group accepted and off he went. I'm also used to taking only a picture with your personal maid, or requesting a maid for a picture. Sending all the maids for a photo takes the maids away from the cafe itself as well, thus the loss of the atmosphere.

Finally, he comes back and our maid asks if we would like to play any games. Having sat enough at the cafe, we declined (plus there was no room to play!) Our maid escorted us out of the cafe, and murmured something along of thanks and come again? She was very quiet about her speech, though I was fairly sure she was not a shy person. I think a different maid persona would have suited her better.

It seemed that the most attentive areas of the cafe were the photo area, and the large tables, where you could comfortably play a game or draw with your maid. But it just seemed like you would come to the cafe to take a picture with your own maid harem.

I apologize if I do seem harsh, but I look at the cafe from restaurant serving experience, maid experience, and experiences at other maid style cafes (mostly con run).

My companions agreed that if the maid had taken our order, returned with the order, came back to check on us (games/photo-op), and finally escort us out, we would have been satisfied. Taking our order at the table requires her to come back to check up on us, which would ideally give us more "maid time." There were enough maids to cover one or even two to each table, so guests should not feel neglected. My company definitely felt neglected, and there were no maids wandering by the tables to satisfy our eyes.

I am perhaps a little harsh on the maid service as well, since I suppose I was trained in a more extreme form of maid service (ie. kneeling, tea service, cooling service.) More fantasy style I suppose... like "Maid in Akihabara" rather than most maid cafes in Japan where they are simply your server in costume. But seeing how it's Fanime, I would kinda expect a more personal time with the maids, and more of the fan service ideal.. I'm NOT suggesting anything lewd though! ^.^

I know this was a long post, but I wanted my thoughts to be heard, especially since it was Jun's first year. A lot of my complaints could simply be because of my server maid, but I don't wish to place blame on her because she seemed a very sweet girl. We just felt really neglected especially since all the maids were about 20 ft away from us and not really in the cafe area. Most tables' eyes were directed towards the photo area because THAT'S WHERE THE MAIDS WERE.

Pros: Lots of cute maids. Good food. Cute performance.

Cons: No maids nearby. Seated at a small table. Lack of service.

That's all and I hope to see an even BETTER cafe next year!

oooh.. the dreaded spikes of doom...

I hope you've also posted this on cosplay.com cuz I think they'd knoiw better than me.

I've seen one guy do Sora (KH) with his real hair, so it IS possible.

I would suggest hair glue (got2b works well), but I don't know how to make the spikes poofy without a lot of messy fingers and messy hair. That's the canon style.

If you want a more natural look, use hair pomade to separate your hair into the spikes.

BUT TEST IT OUT BEFORE CON!!!

I can't say I'm the right person for this, but I don't think it'd work. Umm... without the jacket, yes. (I'm going off a google search of -- Amarao FLCL --)

The jacket might be okay, but the idea generally as a male going to formal event that includes Latin or Ballroom dancing (from my experience, though as a female), is that guys are in their formal attire (ie. suits), they take off their heavier outdoor jackets and leave them at coat check, then proceed to said event in formal wear. If wearing a suit, they can remove outer suit jacket (ie. three piece suit: takes off jacket, leaves vest and shirt on) Some even remove their vests.

Then again, I don't know what Fanime's Black and White Ball will allow... best take that up with the staffer in charge of it.

BEst of Luck! And considering that his title is Commander, he's gotta have some form of formal wear. Eww.w.. doubled.

Okay gathering... according to the offical FanimeCon gathering times, there are 2 times for the FMA gathering.

Saturday at 12:30 pm and Sunday at 10:00 am.

Now, I'd like to know ahead of time when the gatherings are so I can plan which costume to wear when and whatnot. So fellow FMA gatherers, which time is better for you?

I'm reeeeeeealllly hoping it happens Sunday at 10am, but who else does?

Saturday is also the gathering for Naruto at 1pm.  See my difficulty? >.<;

Hope to hear from you!

Hiya!

I pre-registered a long time ago... back when badges were $40, then added 2 more badges at $50 to make $140 my total. However, I didn't pay it because I hadn't recieved payment from my cousins yet..  Now, on my account I only have 2 badges (me + sister) and the price is $110. Is this a registration mistake or one of my own?

Yup... Decided Scar himself was cool, but when I found more people were starting to cosplay Scar, I found that Scarlette was born. Makes multiple men's heads spurt blood... AT THE SAME TIME!! Yes...

Ooh!! I wanna come, but I don't know what my schedule will be as staff... especially since it's Registration for a major day...

And even if I could come, I would have to choose a cosplay.

Lust, Sloth, or Miniskirt Scar-lett. (I can do regular scar too... but I think jason and someone else signed up for it. And Infernoman might bring his scar outfit too..)

Any preference? I might be able to get my sister to do Sloth instead of me as well..

HOpe to see you guys there!
