Panels and Workshops / Re: Nerd Courting, 2010!
May 07, 2010, 01:25:49 PM
Oh my. Yes, come and join us! It will be well worth your time and you'll be telling all your friends about it for a week straight.

Coincidentally, you should also work in there when it's okay and when not to subtly use quotes from Futurama in everyday conversation.

Hey, just commenting to let everyone know, as someone who went to both panels and stayed after each to hang out with Adam and his group, you should all come to these panels next year if they have them again. Nerd Courting was the single most entertaining and hilariously funny panel I have ever attended in 7 years of attendance at FanimeCon. This is not to say that there wasn't any good advice to be had at this panel, there of course, was a lot of information that would be useful to anyone. Adam as a panelist, though, is genuinely awesome. The number of stories this man has to tell are endless, and you can never get bored talking to him. As a great example of this, many of us stayed after the panels to chat for another 4-5 hours and periodically over the course of the convention. It's rare that anyone gets so involved with people they've just met. I'm very glad that I went along, and what I took away from these panels were more than just great information on Cosplay and process of design and how to pick up women, it was also a great social experience that introduced me to a number of new and interesting friends. Thanks Adam and the entire CCRStars group for making Fanime 2009 the best con I've ever been to.

Excuse the double post, I didn't see the feedback thread at first and now I can't delete my reply, heh...

When I went to Japan this summer, I came across a group that seems to be just getting started, and they have a really awsome sound to their music. It'd be great if we could have them at fanime, I'm sure they'd love the publicity. This band btw is Jack Rose: http://www.jackrose.net/top.html

If needed, I can post their sampler cd for ya'll to check out. Their stuff is really hard to find.

Also, I'd be very excited if you could get this other "new" band to come, Acid Black Cherry. But they, I'd expect, would be too hard to get, because ABC is the solo project of Yasu from Janne De Arc. However, his music is absolutely amazing, and I think many people would enjoy having him at Fanime. here's his website: http://acidblackcherry.net/index.html

I'd also love to see Nightmare, but, that's probably impossible, lol...

doesn't look like i can edit my posts here.... anyways, here's a link to the sampler from Jack Rose for those who're interested:

General Convention Discussion / Website Critiques
July 25, 2007, 05:37:36 PM
Alright, a few things. But before I start, keep in mind that I'm highly critical on these sorts of things, so don't take any of my observations personal.

First of all, I was shocked to hear that you're in the hospital! I was wondering why I wasn't recieving any more emails from you, haha. I'm impressed by your dedication, if I was in the same situation I don't think I would have continued working like you did.

I can see now what the theme is this year, if I'm not mistaken, it's a mix of traditional Japanese culture, somewhat of a festival theme. And definately, centered around cherry blossoms. =) It's a great concept, and I think it can be taken a lot further than it is.

As someone else mentioned before, and I don't mean to be rude, but the site design does seem to be a bit amateurish. I realize it's only a beta release, and I hope future releases will enhance what we already have. For now, just having a site up with information about the convention is better than not having one at all. Unfortunately, I don't think this website will attract many newcommers to the convention. To me, it just doesn't strike that impression.

On first glance at the site, it looks to me that it's made up of 3 fixed sized, fixed positioned tables. It also seems to me you've incorporated the same sort of drop-down list menus I've been experimenting with in Dreamweaver CS3. For the most part, it seems to me that this was made in only a few hours, the initial layout that is. To tell you the truth, I've been working on a design of my own since my first email, and I haven't gotten very far along with it myself, so I can't rightly say I have a better design to offer up.

I do have some ideas to improve upon the site and the theme, now that I know what sort of a look you're going for. Sometime, perhaps, I'll send you a list of them. For now, take your time to recover! Although I'm sure many people are still waiting for the registration to open, we're all just going to have to be patient.
