Gah, everyone seems like they have lots of experience with karaoke.

This will be my first contest. Aaahh the nervousness.

Don't worry, just have fun. I bombed bad my first year, but it was really fun.

Both of the songs I will be singing are done by females though ;d. [And I'm a male]. And I only sing at home, with no professional practice/schooling :x.

<--also male singing female songs. Also no professional training or even choir. All in car karaoke skillz baby.

Do you remember me or just talking about the song?  I didn't make semi-finals.  I was so sad. :b

GIRL!  Be quiet!  You're amazing!  You would kick my butt in any singing contest.   ;D

I wanted to sing Magia this year, but I can't sing Keiko's low part in the verses and Hikaru's part because I don't get to breathe if I do. :b

OMG, I'd love you forever if you did Magia. Such an awesome song.

LOL, there's about 30 people on the forums right now probably waiting to karaoke link to come up. With only 40 spots total, the signups should go really fast

Darn, I'll have to relearn the female lyrics about pink skirts and makeup then. =(

oh well, I'll just do it at open mic then.

YAY!!! Vocaloid songs.

So my next question then is about "official karaokes" for Vocaloid Songs. For example, Supercell by ryo is available from CD Japan. So, songs such as "Melt" and "World is Mine" should be valid entries for the contest, correct? The problem is that the album does not contain any karaoke tracks for any of the songs. However, "official" karaoke tracks do exist online. If you look at the official site for ryo's "World is Mine", it contains a download link that includes the karaoke version of the song. Technically this karaoke track is not fan-made, but it also isn't considered official based on the Fanime Karaoke Contest rules as it has not been officially released in CD format.

Therefore, are we forced to use vocal-damping for vocaloid songs despite the fact that "official" karaokes track do exist?

EDIT: I have an additional question about lyrics for vocaloid songs. Many alternate lyrics online are parodies, but there are a few that have been widely accepted by the vocaloid community. For example, Melt by ryo was officially release in on his Supercell CD. This version contains the female lyrics. Halyosy created male lyrics for the song. He and his band have even made a PV for the song. However, this version of the song has not been officially released on CD. Can those lyrics be used in the contest?

Another example is "World is mine" by Miku(Official by ryo) and Kaito(Unofficial by Anima)

So basically....we have to sing by outselves instead of with a group?

You can sing in a group. There just isn't a separate group category since there was only 1 group entry last year, I think.  And they signed up at the con.

question..when's the earliest that the first round would be? like it says "later afternoon/early evening"...exactly what time is that do u think?

Last year, the Karaoke prelims started at 7 I think. And the finals were at about 9-ish. I would expect a similar time slot this year.

I'm sorry for one last question, bit of we want to do the tv size version and have made one using the original karaoke (i.e. parts were cut out to make it tv length) is that ok to use?  Or do we have to suffer through using vocal removal?  I can post a clip so you know what I'm talking about.

You are allotted 2 and a half minutes for the 1st round. That should be plenty of time to finish the first verse and chorus of the song which is what most tv-sizes are. Take a bow and walk off stage after you are done and the sound techs will fade out the music.
