General Anime Chat / Favorite Yaoi Pairings?
January 16, 2010, 10:05:12 AM
Alright, so this has more to it than just ranting about yaoi. My friends and I are working on a script for the masquerade this year. Our skit this year kind of makes fun of something we all know and love, yaoi. We need some specific pairings to make this work, but we want them from a variety of shows (not just the ones we watch).

Hi. My friends and I wanted to participate in this years masquerade, but we really don't want to be disqualified for being stupid or have to change everything the last minute to still be a part of it.

We're looking at doing a skit which has a number of anime characters in it with just two fans having a conversation about anime pairings. Out question is does everyone have to be in cosplay (i.e. those two fans)? We understand half of the awards given are for costume construction and these two wouldn't be eligible for those awards, but our group is leaning more towards the performance side of the masquerade, and although we could set it to a series with everyone is in costume and character I personally feel that it would interfere with our own performance of it and take away some of its value.

Also, is there a person limit to the skits?

So... if we have two or three people "out-of-cosplay" of maybe six or more paricipants, is that good? Or should we make them all cosplayers in costume, but not character? Or... should we try to find any anime that could fit and everyone is in character? This will just be last chance to do a skit with them, and I really want to make sure we won't get rejected for something like that after putting in so much work. The skit plot is definatly appropriate for an anime convention audience, we're just trying to figure out if costumes are mandatory for all members. I can post our script so far if that will help.

We're looking at taking the song "You Won't Succeed On Broadway" from Spamalot, and changing the lyrics so that it's "You Won't Succeed in a Masquerade (If You Don't Have Any Yaoi)."

QuoteAll costumes must be based on Asian film, such as characters from Battle Royale (Japan) or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (China), Asian animation, such as the Japanese animation Naruto or the Korean animation Wonderful Days, Asian comics, such as the Japanese Card Captor Sakura, Korean Model, or Chinese Story of the Tao, Asian-origin video game, such as Final Fantasy  or Ragnarok Online, or Asian music stars (such as Malice Mizer or Morning Musume). Also acceptable is Asian-inspired anime, such as Avatar. The rule of thumb is: if the series and/or character originated anywhere else than the Pacific, it doesn't qualify. If you aren't sure, ask.

Me and my friends are planning a skit we want to try and do for the masquerade next year. For the rule stated above, is this just for costumes that would be judged? Right now, our skit is about people planning a skit. Do they have to be characters, or can they just be out-of-costume "cosplayers"? Our skit would have a number of character, in-character-and-costume character, throughout, even if our main characters are not part of them. It'd be really nice to have this straight as soon as possible so we know whether we need to prepare costumes. Also, if we have to have all people in "cosplay" do they have to be the character they're portraying, or can they be "out-of-character"?

I had 103 pictures taken of me over the whole weekend. Let's see if I can find some!

Friday: Casual Demyx (brown shirt, white shorts, flip flops) I had my Sitar with me. It was the giant "plushie" one.
Saturday: I was just in Lolita this day. I don't have any references, but I had read hair and was wearing a black beret. I hat a black corset skirt and a baby blue blouse. I had black high-heeled mary janes.
Sunday: Full on Demyx with the plushie Sitar.
Monday: Complete Demyx with the plushie Sitar.

Hi! I'm hoping to come, but I guess I must ask. Are EGL clothes mandatory? I'm set with an outfit, but I'm going to be at the con with a group a group of my friends that I wouldn't want to ditch just because they didn't have the proper dress for the picnic.

What if we're a completely genderless cosplay like a pokemon?

Big Event Showcase / Re: Black And White Ball 2009!

I would love to see some more dance classes this year. Those were very fun. Though only one of the instuctors seemed to really know how to teach it. The other I felt just taught people how to fake it. I had to correct a lot of my partners when I danced with them.
