Our photographer took a lot of cosplay photos and got some great pics of the parade... including Sulu!  ;D

Hey everyone, it's awesome that it seems like there will be some interest here! Koji, awesome... see you there! Ed, I'd love to finally get to meet you and anyone from No-Name. Kava, thanks for your suggestions (yes there are music events!) and please check out our site when you get the chance! I think we'll be able to put together a great group brainstorming session... I'm going to request an hour slot in the noon-3pm slot on Sunday so hopefully a bunch of people will at least stop by. It would be great just to gather I think so maybe we can all get to know each other. There are a lot of fans around here acting individually or in smaller groups and I'm sure we all end up going to a lot of the same events (the Bay Area is a small place, relatively!), so one of my goals in gathering is so we can all introduce ourselves and make new friends! I'd also love to see some initiative in forming new groups and gatherings amongst our even more localized communities around the Bay Area.

Also on BayAnime there's been some discussion of holding swap meets, which I think would work out great (better than usual online trading) since we're all located in the same general region.

Discounts for local shops and events I think are do-able so I'd definitely love to get some ideas on how we could go about doing it, and see also if anyone has any connections and is willing to approach shop owners for us.

Hi everyone, I run BayAnime.com, an online community and resource site for Bay Area anime fans and I'm considering possibly running a panel at Fanime for Bay Area locals to discuss how we can improve or facilitate more anime-related events and activities in the area. I'd like to get a general feel for whether or not people would be interested and what attendance might be like. I'm wondering what people want... things such as getting discounts at local stores, more anime showings, anime music events, what kinds of activities might be currently lacking, etc. and then what suggestions we all have for how we might be able to address this.

Anyway if this sounds like something you'd be interested in attending, please let me know!

FYI, Mr. Onishi is now looking for cosplaying individuals or groups that sing, dance, or play musical instruments for an anime talent show/musical performance event after the parade... If you're interested you can sign up on our site and register for the cosplay contest and/or parade while you're at it (if you haven't already signed up).

I just updated our site with more cosplay activity info at the Cherry Blossom Festival:

Seeking cosplayers for a musical performance/talent show event after the parade. Anyone interested?

Anyway I'll probably be there taking pictures on parade day.

Oops, tried to fix my post but ended up posting a new post... ^^;; Anyway it looks like nearly everyone is doing the contest and parade and the contest is limited to 100, so if you want to enter sign up early!

Mr. Onishi gets the forms and goes through them, after which he'll assign you a confirmation number. It doesn't happen immediately (I think he does them in batches, and I think he was sending a bunch of older registration confirmations out today) so please give it some time! If it's been a long time and you're really nervous you can contact me or give Japan Video a call (415-563-5220).

Hey BunofGovt, thanks for posting this here! I spoke to Mr. Onishi a few weeks ago and actually he is also doing the Asian Heritage Fair cosplay event too (http://bayanime.com/5th-annual-asian-heritage-street-celebration/ but the details are TBA). He's a super nice guy, very generous, and always donates prizes to ALL cosplayers who take part in the events. I'm not sure if anything special is happening on Feb 1st for the next cosplay day, but I'll try to find out. He said he needs to ask around for volunteer speakers and for space to maybe do an anime screening(!). If there's a lot of interest in that (SF definitely needs an anime club!) then please let me know! At the very least it will be a discount day and a good excuse to gather in costume!

Ooh... Is this event open to the public? Is it okay to post it to the BayAnime calendar if it is?

Hi everyone, my name is Ann and I run a new-ish (about 2 months old) free resource/news/community website for Bay Area anime fans called BayAnime.com. Our goal is to bring together all the anime-related groups in the Bay Area as well as be a complete resource for all anime-related news here, and we'd love to reach out to the Fanime community since it's the biggest convention! If anyone here is interested in helping out or becoming more involved please let me know! I'm really looking forward to attending Fanime next year!

Had a little question: when we enter will it be only by ourselves like with the cherry blossom festival parade, or will we be able to enter as groups like a normal masquerade?

Should be fine as he specifically mentions wanting skits as part of the show (as hellangel noted above). Btw just wanted to update you guys on the time, as the owner emailed me yesterday saying that the it had changed to 1-2pm instead.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I'm the owner of BayAnime.com, a new website for Bay Area anime fans... I posted this event to my site a while ago and was trying to find out details about the cosplay contest/cosplay show, so I spoke to Japan Video today (was there for the Tokikake screening). They are apparently still planning details, but it looks like they have about 30 participants so far and are looking for more! They extended the registration to September 30th, and for convenience (since some of you might not live near enough to justify making the trip just to register) you can register for the event online at BayAnime.com!

Here's a direct link to the event details and the online registration form:

Hope to meet some of you there! ^_^
