You guessed right, I'm doing Trevor Belmont.
I looked into plastic chains but they either look super hokey or are too big.
I'll bring some zip ties along with me just in case but hopefully something lightweight won't cause an issue with the peace bonding group.
I figured restriction would be for standard metal chains that could be used as a weapon on their own.

Thanks for the input!

I see that the rules forbid "long metal chains" but what constitutes this?
My costume has a whip that is supposed to have a metal chain.
The end piece of the whip will be made out of plastic.
I want to use a 4 foot or shorter piece of lightweight metal chain like porch swing chain or similar.
Thoughts on whether this will cause problems?

Thank you for your time.

Hey fanime! It was my first time playing the Ninja game. I think it's one of the best game you could play when you got nothing but your bodies. I've always been stuck playing finger game and such. I think this game would really help when there's too much sugar to handle.

Thanks to those who taught me how to play it and also those who played with me saturday night and sunday after midnight @_@ I had so much fun from this. I think this is one of the reasons my legs are aching right now. >_<

After midnight? o_o were you on the chess board playing this and was there a guy in a chair playing against you?
Hey, I was playing on the chessboard sunday night. was wearing a black shirt that said Cal Poly Nerds Rule!

So can you move your hands up then down?
Only if it's in a smooth arc, not a jab/jerky motion.

@Aeredon I completely agree with you about the rules. It really frustrated me how much people were moving around. Here, I'll start a list of rules. If anyone has something to add let me know.

1) Moving:
    a) Only 1 jump OR step is allowed.
    b) Head movement is always allowed.
    c) Exact position (besides head) must be held between turns unless dodging.

2) Attack:
    a) 1 fluid motion that must begin before your body stops moving (unless no step is taken).
    b) Both hands can be moved at once, but not one after the other.
    c) Your hand(s) must remain where they are when they stop moving.
ie. In a jab, you can't retract your hand after it stops moving in the original direction.
    d) Flinching is allowed.

3) Dodging:
    a) 1 fluid motion that must begin after your attacker starts moving.
    b) Only 1 foot can move from it's position on the floor.
    b) If you move because an opponent flinches, you must return to your original position immediately.

What does everyone think about these?
i like this and it sounds true to the original rules the only thing i want to add to it since it works is  for final 3-4 people to circle around them a bit so they are forced to attack then retreat across the whole room as well as 2-3 seconds between attacks
okay, thanks for the recommendations. i added to the rules to account for them.

     e) You must start your attack within 5 seconds of the end of the previous person's move.

    a) 1 fluid motion that must begin after your attacker starts moving.
    b) Only 1 foot can move from it's position on the floor.
    b) If you move because an opponent flinches, you must return to your original position immediately.

4) Finals:
     a) Start back to back.
     b) After a count-down both players jump away into their stances.
     c) The player that didn't move last before the back-to-back goes first.

Additionally play areas can be marked out for the whole group and/or for the finals. A player would be out if they stepped at least 1 foot entirely outside of the line.

What does everyone think about these?

Definitely agree with this. I was playing from about 1am saturday night till 5:45am then about the same the next night.

There should totally be an official convention ninja tournament next year. Everyone signed up could be split up into like 8 (or 16 depending on the number of registrants) groups. Then the winners from each group could face off in 1v1 matches like a standard ladder tournament to decide an overall winner. Would anyone else be interested in this?

As to videos, I think I have 1 or 2 short ones I could post. They aren't a very good representation of the awesomeness though. I'll put them on youtube and repost here when done.

To respond to the Okach's comments:

A) I don't see how the solo dances were any more dangerous than a bunch of beginners dancing without knowing what to do. They also presented something that everyone was comfortable with and had fun doing.

B) Perhaps a poll/request box can be placed on the official fanime page so that more people contribute to choosing the songs.

C) Yes, having the lesson schedule in the printed schedule would definitely have helped. Also if it was made available as a pdf many people would be able to download it to put on their phones.

D) I didn't really have an issue with the music volumes, but the com system for making announcements definitely needs work. It was too quiet and fuzzy to understand most of the time.

I think that if some of the songs were more traditional, beginners (like myself) would have an easier time dancing to them.
Maybe there could be a designated beginners area where some of the teachers hang out instead of only roaming the dance floor giving lessons here and there.
While the demos were definitely fun to watch, I think having additional demos of just the basic steps for each type of song would help a lot of people.
The mixer was fun and in my opinion worked well. It should definitely be done again next year.

Over all though, great job. I had a blast and can't wait for next year!

I was ace Ace from Heart no Kuni no Alice. (wearing a big red coat and carrying a sword)

My group I was with also included the characters Peter (the white rabbit), Vivaldi (the queen of hearts), Blood, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Elliot (the march hare), and Nightmare.

Here's a picture of the characters http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/8027/heartnokuninoalicelg3.png

If you took pictures of any of us it would be awesome if you could let me know. Thanks!

Last year was my first year to Fanime, but from what I've seen so far Rovers should be better trained in what the weapon check rules are and/or how to use common sense. 4 of my friends and I cosplayed as Prince of Tennis characters and were walking around carrying tennis rackets a lot of the time but got stopped by a Rover near the Video rooms who said we would either have to put them back in our bags or get them peace bonded. This makes no sense to me as a tennis racket is obviously not a weapon, whether it has a yellow zip tie around it or not. I'm all for having anything that could remotely be considered a weapon checked, but this was kind of ridiculous.

ridiculous or not - its our policy that all items or props are checked out.

yes we know that tennis rackets are not weapons, but in the hands of the irresponsible it can and will do damage.
The reason why we tag any weapon/prop is a pseudo agreement that you are responsible for your item even if someone else takes it and becomes and idiot with it.

You might have common sense, but not everyone else does around you. Even if it was your "first" time at con doesnt mean your exempt from the rules. The rules are there for your safety, and not because we want to give you a hard time.

it literally takes 5 minutes to get a peace bonded tag for your weapon/item/prop.
- if someone gets hurt and because someone thought it would be funny to swing a tennis racket at an unsuspecting crowd.
That's what were trying to prevent.

And I'm saying that it's still pointless for such obvious things. The only people that would tell an attendee to go get a prop peace bonded is a Rover, so if the prop is so obviously not a weapon that the Rovers can tell it isn't just as easily as they could see a little colored zip-tie then the whole process seems redundant for those cases. Peace bonding only really does any good if it's to assure the public that something resembling a weapon isn't really one. Regardless of whether it's peace-bonded or not, almost anything could potentially be used to hurt someone. If a prop obviously isn't a weapon, but doesn't break any of the con rules (aside from the peace bonding rule) it shouldn't needed to be peace-bonded. As to the peace-bonding being an agreement, I don't see how it is one anymore than buying a pass and/or bringing the prop with you to the con in the first place.

Some of my friends and I are going to be going to Fanime for the first time this year and are staying at one of their houses about 10-15 minute drive from the convention. I was wondering if people ever sleep at the convention center if only an hour or two of sleep is needed per night. We regularly have all night video game parties at each other's houses and stay up all night at including a 3 day party and where we only got about 30 minutes of sleep the second night. Since driving to and from the convention center plus parking and such seems like a pain, what do you all think we should do? Thanks.

Well, if you mean sleeping IN the con, then you'll probably get shoo'd away. If you mean in a hotel room... Well, I like them. Even if I was close I'd want one if it was joined. I love just running up and dropping stuff off, showering, napping, etc etc and running down again. They probably wouldn't let you sleep in the car in the parking garage, but you could try? Who would be paying attention really anyhow? My vote : Bring a blanket and nap in the car.

Thanks for the response. I had considered the car, but unfortunately mine is far too small for 4 teenage guys to sleep in lol. We were also too late to reserve a hotel room and didn't have that type of money. Thanks again.

For some reason I can't actually vote. If you like playing electronic music then Dance genre music would be good. You should check out some of the music on the Newgrounds audio portal. It has a bunch of start up musicians/djs and there's some pretty good dance and trance music. Look for f-777 in particular and I also like some of syphonmax's stuff.

This gathering sounds like it's going to be fun. You can add 4 more for Prince of Tennis; myself as Tezuka and friends Brian, Chris, and Matt as Kaido, Eiji, and Echizen respectively. Thanks for putting this thing together!
