What a lot of people don't realize about the dealers room is that the dealers have to pay a more than just the space fees and transportation costs. SJCC has a union and if a given dealer is bringing in more than he/she can carry themselves, he/she has to pay the union to do all the moving, both in and out (this is actually listed in the dealers paper work). As you can imagine, this is pretty expensive, so it makes sense that we'd see some gouging of some kind.

Then we need to move this con to a non-union place. Or stop those proprietary mafia thugs from messing with the dealers.

Good luck with that. Any convention center (specifically convention centers, not sure of other lodgings) of equal or greater size will have union workers on staff and require patrons to use them.

Well, that's a rotten state of affairs that needs to change.  What a bunch of bullies.

I noticed a lot of rovers who either didn't know what they were doing or were 'drunk' on 'power'. I think better training and/or screening of rovers would be a good idea.

I dunno if they're willing to train their staff much, since it'd be taking time out of changing their rules at the last minute, not printing schedules, losing pre-reg badges, and telling people to not wear costumes based on a non-existent rule. (SJPD told my friend they had nothing to do with the rule about  "no military or law enforcement" costume rule, and that it was stupid.) Oh well, I think it's fair to say that Fanime staff has lost control and it's going to spiral down.

They're trying to be PC...they don't want anything right wing at the convention, period.

You're kidding me SJPD told u that!? The more I think about it the more silly it sounded to me along with the threatening in todays political climate rule.

i will be hosting something on Friday, at the Fairmont. i will have a few bottles available, but people who come are encouraged to bring more if they like.

Sounds awesome and Im staying at the fairmont too.  Where in the fairmont is it going to be?

Somewhere on the seventh floor...we don't know yet. We only know the floor because we ended up getting adjoining rooms with another friend.

« on: May 12, 2011, 08:33:07 PM »
We've contacted the hotel, and they will not be closing the pool during FanimeCon. The website will not be updated for a few days, but rest assured that the pool will be available!

Thanks!

Halleleujah! My ridiculously long legs thank you!

Roommates Wanted:
+ Introduction: Hello, my name is Aaron.  I am a firm believer that conventions are just as much of a time for meeting people and partying as they are for expressing a love for anime or science fiction. I hope to make friends of my prospective roommates, and have a smashing time.  I intend to host a low-key party on friday, and perhaps a movie night on saturday.  The sort of party depends on the sensibilities of my roomies, obviously.
+ Hotel Information: i have reserved a room with two beds at the fairmont for friday, saturday, and sunday nights.
+ Costs: The room itself is going to be a grand total of 371, so it is certainly going to cost a lot less per person if i get 3 or more people.  It's certainly negotiable, of course.  I've never tried hosting before, so I am not sure what percentage a roomie needs to pay, typically.  Whatever's fair.
+ Requirements: 18 years or older, either gender, smokers allowed but no smoking in the room, must shower, and must be relatively clean.
+ Pluses: Able to contribute food and drink, being a party animal, being funny, being a night owl, being someone interested in karaoke.
+ Contact: how to get in touch. Please keep all your PMs and/or emails until the day they're check-in.
+ Miscellaneous: I can host cosplayers, since I tend to pack light.  But

General Anime Chat / Goatee and Cosplay
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:36:51 PM »
i want to cosplay this year, but do not want to remove my goatee.  Can someone suggest a character that has one, or for whom having a goatee won't ruin the concept?

Update: My friend has cancelled our room so now i am without  a place to stay.
I am a respectful and clean 25 year old guy looking for a place to stash my changes of clothing, sleep, and shower.  Any hotel is fine but the Fairmont would be a definite plus since I will be going to the Ball.

Oh not only can I pay for a share of the room, I am also willing to buy snacks and/or drinks for my roomies :)
I don't smoke and only drink socially, and I'm a generally fun guy to be around.

You can contact me the following ways fairly reliably.

Yeah here's a tip: just act casually and don't talk about dating the moment you meet a woman.

Hmm I'd say more hand checks, but that's not going to stop all the girls who know how to use the heels of their feet.

Also, I recommend the following series:

Darling
Little Monica Monogatari
Arisa
Words Worth

And nobody can go their whole lives without seeing at least one episode of La Blue Girl

IMHO underage girls should refrain from going to conventions period.
Just saying.

Hello, me (Aaron) and my friend Rodney have had a 2 of our friends flake on us so we need 2 or more new room mates for our nice room at the Fairmont we had reserved.

Please email aaronbear@gmail.com with a few minor details about yourself, or send an AIM to kamzislash.

If we have four people it will be around 90 for the whole weekend, less per person if we have more up to a maximum of six.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Mod edit: title hotel name

Oh it's a beautiful place. The lobby is full of comfy chairs and some times they have a piano player creating an atmosphere.
