Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Please, Do NOT Do “Silver Island”
« on: June 10, 2019, 05:25:57 PM »
I was a bit underwhelmed.  Larger capacity shuttles were used, but it was still quite a log jam trying to get there.  It wasn't bad, but I was hoping for a bit more out of the Night Market.  Like everyone has said, it seemed like an adult artist ally, and I was expecting more like an adult dealer's hall experience.  The film rooms are the film rooms, I was over watching hentai in a group 10 years ago lol.  The casino was a great idea.  The bingo number caller went way to fast.  The food truck was decent but ridiculously expensive.  Spent 2 hours there then headed back over to the main con.  I'm hoping some of this gets ironed out for next year if they want to continue doing it.

Iron Chef?  Well then...

Obviously we need Takeshi Kaga, aka "Chairman Kaga" from Iron Chef!

He also played Soichiro Yagami in the live action Death Note movies from 2006, as well as several anime roles.

Dealers Room / Re: Vendors Old and New

I love Anime Depot, and their guy in charge has some interesting behind the scenes stories with dealing with with some other semi-sketchy dealers.  You can probably imagine who that might include :x

I'm going to remain optimistic about it.  The con has more than doubled in size since I started attending every year.  With Clockwork Alchemy flying on their own now, that opens up room there for things to expand.  I've stayed at the Double Tree many times, and can vouch for the shuttle service being very reliable and frequent... if someone hasn't seen the shuttles before, they're simply not looking in the right place.  The schedule has always been available at the information tables.

I like that they're trying new things.  And if it doesn't work out, they don't have to do it that way again.  No big deal.

Paper schedules lol? That would explain why there is 0 info available online. No signs posted for pick up and drop off either? Oh boy, now I really am nervous.

Um.... there have been signboards where all the shuttles stop on the side of the Hilton (Almaden Ave) for years now, with each route clearly marked.  Additionally the schedules are posted there as well and I believe they've been in the pocket guide for a few years now too.  The shuttles pick up and drop off over there for good reason, they don't have to deal with the traffic in front of the convention center.

Ah, you are correct, beat me to it :)

General Convention Discussion / Re: Discord Server
« on: February 27, 2019, 12:08:35 PM »
Is there a lot more action on the Discord channel? I've not bothered with Discord so far, but I will if I'm missing out.

Not a whole lot currently, but people do talk in it every day.  It will likely pick up cloesr to and during Fanime I would imagine.  also there are two servers and most people seem to be in both :o

As an old school Fanime attendee I'd like to see the return of the Kung-Fu movie guru Ric Meyers.    I really enjoyed the way he MCed the Masquerade.

Serious Business / Re: Too many Personal Questions a staff member.
« on: January 22, 2019, 02:23:13 PM »
Sounds like a pretty uncomfortable experience.  I tend not to ask those types of questions, and figure if someone wants me to know, they'll tell me.  If you are staff again, perhaps put in a request not to be paired with this individual.  It doesn't seem like he had malicious intent but it does seem he was a bit too forward and inconsiderate of boundaries.

Well, I slept through my alarm for 7am, and still managed to get a Hilton room for the whole weekend, around 10am.  :D

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: WTB old FanimeCon program books
« on: November 29, 2018, 04:57:42 PM »
I usually wind up recycling the programs after I get home from the weekend, since I rarely wind up using it during the con anyway.  I'll take a look to see if I have any still hanging around, since I'm not a hoarder... I just happen to have the room of one.  If I find any, you can have them.

My condolences on the loss of your home and your belongings, but I'm glad you're safe.

Much appreciated, thank you for checking :)

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB old FanimeCon program books
« on: November 27, 2018, 06:12:38 PM »
Heyo,

So as my signature says, I've been going to FanimeCon since 1999.  Over the years I've kept all of the previous year's programs.  I'm big on nostalgia, and its fun to flip through now and then and remember previous years.

WELL, those are all gone now thanks to the Camp Fire that ravaged my town of Paradise, CA and burned my apartment and everything inside to the ground.  T___T

If anyone is willing to sell me their good condition old FanimeCon program books, I would really appreciate it.  I just need 1 of each year.  PM me please :)

but I kind of felt like I was at a "people that couldn't go to EDC" party when the hiphop stuff came up.

Kind of an odd comment; Hiphop isn't the main type of music at EDC.

I didn't attend this panel, however the situation you described is one of the reasons I stopped going to fan panels many years ago.  Either discussion/interaction was severely limited, or at least in the case of panels on topics I'm interested in, I often found myself more knowledgeable on the topic than the individual putting on the panel.

General Convention Discussion / Fliers
« on: June 26, 2018, 11:29:10 AM »
I noticed the long tables where people drop fliers for other cons/events wasn't in it's usual place this year.  Was this moved somewhere else and I missed it, or gone completely?  Arguably a huge waste of paper I realize, however I always enjoyed picking up one of each and sort of collecting them.

Big Event Showcase / Re: the masquerade is a huge joke
« on: June 03, 2018, 01:23:56 PM »
@Amanojaku Nah dude the problem with crappy judges is that the quality of the show will be brought down even more. Look at this year and how there were so few entries. I haven’t competed since 2013 because nothing has ever gotten better (thought about it in 2016, then thought better of it). And i can tell you in 2013 there were a ton of amazing entries. Having novices win Best in Show with crap costumes DOES effect everything. Also not much motivation to enter when it sounds like most of the winners got $100. They had better prizing in the past.

I was mixed on the hosts. It seemed like some people enjoyed them. They were ok, not really much different from last year. And i mean at least they were better than some past shows (sorry Wendell).

Ah, I see.  Yeah it did seem a little short on entries this year.  I hadn't been to the Masquerade in a number of years so it was my first time seeing these hosts.  To my surprise though, most people did seem into it.  Were they being themselves, or the characters they were dressed as?  It felt like I was watching a bad fan dub.  Either way, I didn't get it.  Maybe I'm just too old to enjoy whatever it is they do lol.
