Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Suggestions for Fanime 2012

To ayame_nguyen:  The policy was consistently no taking pictures or videos so I wonder who told you, at one point, that taking photos would be okay...
While we were waiting in line, two different staff members walked up and down the line and told us that pictures were okay, just no videos, and we should run and get our cameras if we wanted them. And about 15 minutes later, we were told no cameras again, like ayame_nguyen said.

This has been a problem in previous years as well, one staffer saying one thing, then a different staffer saying something else. There are decent photos/vids of various no-camera events from various years of Fanime floating around due to this.

To me, the easiest is just to assume no photos or videos for the shows; I really don't want to bother with that stuff, so I always ditch my stuff somewhere and just enjoy myself.
The pictures I wouldve taken wouldn't have been of good quality, and there are photographers there taking pictures the entire time anyway. MY JOB, IMO, is to have a good time.

Best answer to the photo policy problem: not having a problem. Wowowowow

Of course there are people that would rather lose their right foot than not be able to take pictures...In that case I don't really know what to say...

I'm sorry to hear there was so much confusion :\  We made sure that MusicFest staffers were very clear on the photo policy; however, it might not have gotten to staffers in other departments.  In the future, we will work harder to make sure that all Fanime staff present will have the same information about photo policies.  Though, hopefully, the photo policy confusion didn't keep you all from enjoying the show  :)

Sorry, but FanimeCon/MusicFest are not releasing a video of the concert.

So, I was thinking, perhaps in order to let people have a picture with a guest such as Yuyu but still keep things moving, is get a professional photographer there to take people's pictures with him. I can understand if it's just a picture at the table of him signing, or maybe looking up with a smile, but no hugging since I can imagine why they'd be pretty strict about it. The photographer can just be there at one end of the table, say "smile", take a quick, good quality picture, you get the autograph and then it's next person. To me, it seems it could work.

The reason pictures were only allowed behind the yellow line is because of the time it would take if people were trying to take pictures right in front of him.  There were nearly 400 people in line during each one-hour autograph session and he was just able to get to everyone who was in line.  Even thought it doesn't seem like a lot of time to pose for a quick picture, it would really add up with so many people.  That would probably end up in a lot of people not being able to get his autograph at all.  Furthermore, a professional photographer would want to take his/her time in order to get decent pictures so I don't think that it's realistic to think that it would be quick.  The idea of having a professional photographer at the autograph session is just not practical.

Don't worry, there will be autograph sessions but the times have not been announced just yet.  They are not at the same time as the artists' Q+A, though.

@chifunii  Ah, it was mostly in response to:

It's possible that the videos he took are only for FLOW's tour archive...
but it's also possible that it might show up in some official LM.C related blog.Or YouTube (do they even have a Youtube channel? probably not). Maybe we'll see...

and the fact that she is, most likely, correct.

There shouldn't be any videos online for either of the two shows.  The cameras in the Civic were for the two screens on each side of the stage and usually, the videos the managers take is for archival purposes, not broadcasting.

@kollunz: LM.C's management has a strict no photography policy for the concert.  Your best bet is to leave your camera at home/in your hotel room, etc.

There's a House of Siam on Second St. (151 S 2nd St, San Jose, CA 95113).  It's between the San Jose Art Museum and San Jose State's campus.  I went there a few years ago and I remember it being pretty good.  As far as I know, that's the only Thai in the area and it is within walking distance of the convention center (probably 15 minutes).

For An cafe, we had to place our gifts in boxes. Took the fun out of giving it to them personally, but understandable

I know it's more fun to personally give them your gifts and I agree with you.  I believe in Japan it's common practice for boxes to be put right outside the venue for gifts, so in all likelihood, LM.C will be the same way.  Thank you for your understanding  :)

We (Musicfest) will let you guys know about policies beforehand to make the concert and related events run more smoothly.  Speaking of which, Val mentioned this earlier but LM.C's management has a very strict photography policy.  Not bringing your camera to the LM.C concert is the best option.

Regardless of how "fun" it might be, it is immature and potentially dangerous burn anything in public.

LM.C! Thank you for inviting them to come back to California! ^^ I was wondering if we will be able to give them gifts?

Airi, I believe the gift policy will be decided by LM.C's management (Val or Julia, please correct me if I'm wrong).  We can find out and let you know.

ELLEGARDEN would also be really awesome to see at Fanime, or LM.C.

As awesome as ELLEGARDEN would be, they're currently on indefinite hiatus... :-\

I know what you mean!  t's lucky for them that Seoul is their tour final, otherwise we might have just kept them here  :P  They totally stole my heart  ;D

I totally thought of you (Acid_Android) when ABC and Janne were mentioned  :D

...Will we be allowed to take photos during the concert? o_o;

Nope, sorry.

So I just bought my weekend pass! Actually in all honesty the only reason i am coming to this anime convention is for An Cafe. So here is my questions,

since there is a 3000 people capacity in the audotorium, is it first come first serve basis as far as getting the best spot? What time are we allowed to start lining up? Is it going to be hard to get into the autograph session? I really want to know how to make this the smoothest thing possible since I am only coming for ancafe. thanks for your help!!!

The concert is first come, first serve so the earlier you line up, the better the spot you get.  In the past, (as with any concert event) there has not been a designated time for the line to start forming.  However, please use common sense when deciding how early you want to start lining up.  I understand that this year is a bit different since we do have a more high-profile group coming to the convention, but our priority is your safety and I ask that you not camp out over night :)

I don't mind if you're short a hand and need me to fetch stuff within the convention as long as it's not during my other shifts :)  I just like enjoying the environment of fanime and making sure everything runs smoothly and that all of our guests have as much fun as I do.  So if I can help make musicfest happen I'd like to help.  I've been to fanime as a guest twice before staffing so I've had my fill of just going to events, I want to help them happen.
Video programming suggested floating between e-gaming and video programming and i know one of my friends has multi-departmented before.  Can I just talk to you guys about it at the march 9 meeting??

We would love for you to enjoy MusicFest, but as for staffing, our positions, even as gophers, are pretty intense.  Sure, you don't need to be doing things all of the time, but you need to be on-call for 18+ hours because our needs are so unpredictable--even if we're just talking about fetching things.  So I would definitely not recommend staffing for any other departments at the same time.  And like Tony said, it's against policy to be in more than one department so three is not going to fly.

If you don't want to register for a full weekend, you can register for one day attendance, for Fanime, on the day of the concert, that will be able to get you into Musicfest's concert.  These passes are not available online but in person at the reg booth.

In terms of seating, in the past, it has been first come first serve, but not in terms of when you get your registration, it depended on how long before the show one was willing to line up.
