Hotel and Facilities / Re: How much did a hotel room cost you?
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:08:25 PM »
From my experience reservations don't usually go up until sometime around December or so.  So you have time.  Keep an eye on here and the main page for information when reservations become available.

This year I paid a total of about $475 for my room at the Hilton from Thursday night thru Tuesday morning.  More if you add the parking which was about $19 per night.  This was for a single room, I think it was more for a room with two beds.

Here's the deal though, this year we had to sign a waiver at the Hilton that specifically said no more than 4 people in the room.  You and your friends would have to get two rooms if you want to stay there.  Just FYI.  I don't think any of the area hotels have rooms for 6 people, but I could be wrong.

I don't really have any funny stories about my hotel stay.  Sorry.  I'm a firm believer in keeping the con craziness in the convention center and having my hotel room for relaxation and cosplay preparation.

No matter how good you are at your job.  No matter how much your bosses, coworker and user base love you.  There is still a chance that in this economy you will get fired.

Hey guys!  Just wanted to let you know that I haven't disappeared.  Real life is kicking my butt and I just haven't had a lot of time to keep up with the forums.  That will change in about a week and a half.  I'll update the first post soon after that with everyone's cosplays.  ;D

Have a great weekend, the weather here is beautiful I hope it is where you are.  Enjoy your weekend.

Things in the Universe / Re: Dreams
« on: June 15, 2010, 10:55:43 PM »
A little back story.  I have a relative who is a serious dead beat.  Takes money from everyone, hasn't worked in almost 10 years, substance abuser, homeless...the works.  This person is not allowed to talk to me or know where I live.

I dreamed (just last night) that I was waiting for a pizza to be delivered.  When I heard a knock on the door I opened it expecting Pizza.  Instead it was the dead beat leaning against the door jam saying "I knew you had to live here somewhere".  He went on to explain that he saw my car in the parking lot and started knocking on all of my neighbors doors until he found me.  Then, because apparently my dream self doesn't know how to close the door, call the cops or tell the dead beat to take a hike, he walked into my house, told me he lived here now and started eating my pizza (which had apparently shown up on it's own during the conversation with the dead beat).  All I could think was "great, now I have to move to a different State".  Then the dream was over.

Yeah, we bump back and forth like that.  This year was Sunday, 2011 will be Saturday, 2012 will be Sunday and so on and so forth into eternity.  Only time will tell what Gatherings we'll come up against this year.  Hopefully we can accomidate everyone without a lot of stress, but only time will tell.  Fanime 2011 is something like 11 months away.  (How sad is that?)

There are pros and cons for both days.  If I'm being totally honest though, I prefer Saturday.  Especially if the Rovers keep the protesters under control as well as they did this year.

now that you guys get to move back to Protester Saturday :P

Yay for Protester day.  Wohoo.   :P  LOL, it sucked to be on Saturday in 2009, but based on what I saw for 2010 I have no worries about doing our gathering on Protester Saturday.  The Rovers did a spectacular job minizing the annoyance level created by the protesters.

Looking forward to an amazing 2011!   ;D

I bought a lot of stuff, but my favorite purchase was a bunch of Slayers and Fruits Basket pins I found in the Swap Meet.  They were all metal and in really good condition.  I got them for a dollar each, which was an amazing deal.  I got comments about them all weekend.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Stories from Fanime 2010
« on: June 12, 2010, 10:01:29 PM »
My cosplay group organized a little meet up on Friday night at 10 p.m. so that people would have a chance to know who their fellow cosplayers were.  I expected 3 or 4 people to be honest.  Before I knew it I was suddenly surrounded by about 30 people for this meet up.  It was amazing.  Probably the most fun I had at the convention.

Some people joined who weren't in our group, but they made it even more fun.  I have pictures of some guy using my BrightHeart doll as a projectile from a rocket launcher.  There's a picture somewhere of another person pretending to eat my BrightHeart doll.  There was an ongoing battle for a box of cheese-its.  I had so much fun, and I totally wasn't expecting to have a lot of fun right then.

FLOW was great this year.  I can dream to see them again...ever.  Anyone from a similar style would be great.

Hi guys!  Sorry I haven't been updating.  To say things have been crazy is a bit of an understatement.  Come heck or high water everything will sort itself out by July 1st.  I'll make updates to the list once that happens.

Keep being awesome!

This is now the official 2011 Naruto Gathering list.  Woohoo for an early start.   ;D

General Convention Discussion / Re: Con Sickness

I avoid the Fanime Flu this year, thank goodness.  I was down for a week + last year.

However, I did kill my feet on Sunday.  My feet were swollen for days.  And not the normal kind of swollen, no this swelling was so bad I actually got sores from the stretched skin.  I'm thinking of bar-b-queing the shoes I was wearing.

Checkers was a blast.  Many thank you's to the people who decided to let me shake Luffy's hand and walk out instead of trying to take a fall in those Gosh Darned Heels.

My pictures are in this link, starting on page 2.  I took a lot of pictures, but they really aren't that good, just the stuff that I thought was fun.  Hope it helps!

Looking forward to next year!

Excellent pictures!  Were you the Tsunade?  Thanks for the use of your Hokage hat as 'crown'!

Yes I was / am / will be again Tsunade.  The hokage hat was fun.  I love the pictures of the hokage hat on the Akatsuki.  :)

This year was FANTASTIC.  The weird thing is I left Fanime 2009 thinking "I don't think Fanime can be better than this."  I left 2010 thinking that I was wrong.  2009 had NOTHING on 2010...can't wait to see what 2011 brings us.   :D

I am going to leave this thread active for a few weeks.  Then I plan to put this thread to rest and open the 2011 thread.  This thread has been so rewarding, watching everyone work together and come together as a real Naruto team.  I can't wait to see what 2011 brings us.   ;D

As always...you guys are the BEST!

Just have to promote my local convention here.  SNAFUcon will have it's first official year here in Reno this year.  There are a lot of good reasons to go, it's not too far from the Bay, it's at a nice hotel with a big ol' arcade, it's cheap and it's on my birthday.  OK so the birthday thing is only cool for me...but just saying.  Anyone who comes will already know at least one person (me).

I don't do AX, Fanime is almost too many people for me AX would probably kill me.   :P  And I've never made it to SacAnime.  Timing always seems off for me.

Hi guys!  Sorry I've been M.I.A. for a couple of days.  Still recovering from Fanime.  Good gravy do I need a day to just SLEEP!  lol.

Here are my Naruto pictures.  You'll notice that I really don't take a lot of posed pictures.  I take pictures of things as their happening cause it reminds me of the energy of the moment.  This has the Friday night meet up / madness, Cosplay Checkers, a bit of the gathering and the picnic.  Enjoy!

Also, Ree (my sister) will be posting her pictures later.  A lot of the Gathering pictures are in there so keep your eyes out.  (TokenBlackGuy, your solo Anbu pictures are in her group)

Staff was very helpful and nice.

If I had any problems it was that the check in table seemed very crowded, but there's not a lot to be done about that.  Also, the raffle thing confused me.  That may have just been me though.

All together the gatherings and events seemed great this year.  It seemed like there was always a gathering going on, and while they were all well controlled there was originality and creativity in each gathering.  It was fun as an organizer AND as an observer.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Your Hotel Stay- 2010

Where: Hilton 10th Floor
Good or Bad?:  Good hotel, bad guests next door.
Would you stay again: Yes

Love the Hilton.  The staff is nice, the rooms are comfortable, the bed is my best friend at Fanime.  I love the mini-fridge, couldn't live without it.  I like having room service available until midnight...never know when you're going to need a piece of chocolate cake.  :)

On the down side the behavior form didn't work on my floor.  I was surrounded by a group of the rudest loudest most obnoxious con goers I have been subjected to in 5 years as a Fanime attendee.  Several times at midnight or later large groups would gather for a hall party of sorts, with several people standing in the hall yelling and being a menace.  Once they took to locking each other out of the room at some God awful hour of the night and banging loudly on the door and screaming.  Myself or other guests asked them to be quiet because we were sleeping, they where rude and remained in the hall being loud for several minutes each time, I can only assume they stopped because they knew we were calling the front desk.  This happened Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights  There were people sleeping in the hallway and playing their iPod at loud volume at all hours of the day.  I spoke to the housekeeping lady on Monday.  She said that the room next to mine was so dirty and disgusting that she was going to have to wait for another day to clean it so another person could help her.  She claimed that they had denied housekeeping entrance for days so there was a build up garbage as well as wet towels and linens everywhere and wig hair all over the place that had been ground into the carpet.  I appologized on their behalf.

I love the Hilton, I will stay there every year as long as I have the choice.  I feel bad that I was roomed near some bad eggs.
