First of all...

-Sorry if this was posted in the wrong spot, for some reason I found this to be the most fitting place.
-I checked with the search tool and Google to see if I could find an answer first, if you find one that I couldn't please PLEASE link me so the topic can be closed.

I was wondering about selling some culinary creations in the artists alley next year...since we have never done this before, and I haven't seen anybody do it.  Is it against con rules?  If not, what kinds of forms/permits would be needed to set something like this up?

Thanks to anybody who can help! <3

I'm pretty sure that it's not allowed. I think part of the reason is probably because it's a violation of the exclusive Food and Beverage contract the San Jose Convention Center has with Centerplate, the F&B company that sells foods and drinks on the convention center premise. Someone feel free to correct me on this one, but I think Centerplate does play a role in it.

I think there are also a couple other issues as to why it may not be allowed, but my brain isn't working too well so I'll let someone else fill in the blanks if there's something I forgot to cover @___@.

I suppose you can always bring it up further with the con staff and they may be able to answer it better than I can, since they know more about the SJCC inner-workings than I do.

Edit: Shi - beat me to the punch again.  :P

Again we're BOTH NOT official so you may want to e-mail someone directly from Fanime upper staff....

I cant reply since I dont know the official rules but here is my 2 cents.

I help staff for Fani-Maid. Its a project where girls dress up in specific maid out fits and serve food and beverages...

I digress but at one point there was a demand for "homemade" items to be brought for sale at the con and the simple answer we get was " NO "

most obvious reason is due to LIABILITY.
(please dont take offense to the following list)

if people have allergies - people could get sick.
mishandled items might potentially get ppl hurt (again sick or bad reaction).

They could 'sue' Fanime and/or go after you for selling said item.

Not to burst your bubble but Fanime has a "exclusive/monopolized" contract with CenterPlater (a specialized) food and beverage vendor.

the reason why Dealers may sell snacks, is because its covered in their contract and theyre items are PRE-Packaged. and again have a low risk of 'harming' people...

I hope that ansnwers your questions, but feel free to pose it again to upper management by going via e-mail or going to an exec meeting once they start up.
