Playing Rock Band 2 online, picked up phone while game was on pause, come back, system turns off the second I press a button on my guitar. Damn it, it's my 60GB as well. This is bs. I have to send it in now and pay $150...

That sucks.  How long have you had the console?

Keep trying, you never know.  It might work tomorrow.

LordKefka

I've had it for over a year. Warranty is shot. I will keep trying but right now, I'm poor to the point I have to eat ramen every day, so having to freakin pay $150 to have this crap fixed it out of the question. I might actually have to start selling some of my things.

so your ps3 is just completely dead?

Wow. I'm sorry for your loss.

You really really sure its dead? sometimes it could be a bad connection and/or it just needs to cool down? :P

Nope, it's dead for sure. I'll probably just wait till I get money to fix it. No way I'm giving up my 60GB. No way. ;_;

I think what also makes me kinda sad is all the saved data I had.. Persona 3, Ar Tonelico, etc etc and mostly, I have 45 hours of P4 and I'm 75% done with the game. Damn it! I have to start all over again.

hypothetically, the hard drive is removalable and maybe you could try [if theyre willing] to temp swap HDs into another physical [working] ps3 system so you could try to back up the data on the system.

or put in the request to SONY to somehow save the files prior to the factory reset.

its a long shot, but yah doesnt hurt to try.

im hoping its just a power source failure and not have anything to do with the HD itself. keep in mind that ps3/xbox 360 are essentially still computers with interchangeable parts so here's to hoping the HD isnt fried and possible the data is still salvage-able.

But if like the PS2, there is a tamper proof seal that prevents you from opening the machine itself and fixing it.  Once broken, SONY will not repair your PS3.

I'm actually hoping they would do that as well. Also thought about swapping out the HDD. From my call though, it seems they have to erase everything.. :\

I think it's only if the PS3 has been abused or modified in any way. The sticker on the side you remove to open the PS3 only voids any warranty you have to have it repaired if it's still under warranty.

Do you also not own a 360 for the same reason? ;)

New gen systems kill themselves.
Wii's don't count, as they are really not much more powerful then the old Xbox.

Red ring of death I believe is much much more common than PS3 bricking on you.

PS3 isn't infamous for bricking, but 360 has a rate between 32% and 68% of being a red ringer.  I also heard (not confirmed) that some people accidentally tip over their 360's and they red ring instantly.  My bro accidentally made his wobble once and the back of his CoD5 disc became FUBAR.  Guess what I had to get him for xmas because of that.  :P

But hey, your decision.

LordKefka

Yeah, it's not common for PS3 to do what it did to me. I'm just an unlucky person..

Besides that point, Microsoft rushed to put out the 360s knowing it'll die on people with a high rate.
