Hello everyone.  The 2010 BWBall went well this year and I just thought I would get an early jumpstart for next year.  If you would like to request a song for next year, please request it on this thread and if at all possible post a link to the song (youtube, imeem, etc.) so we can listen to it.  Even better, include the mp3 or email the song to [email protected] and we will see if it fits.  This is your chance to let us know what songs you would really like to hear at the BWBall since we do not take requests at the event.  Thanks!

wooot first post!  as i mentioned in another forum, i would like to hear the song "Shall We Dance." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdyqmN5cnRQ since there's dialogue and such in it we'd probably have to look for a version that's just the song itself.  I'll work on that.

This song definitely is fitting for the ball. Playing the song near beginning since everyone will be asking each other to dance.

It is a good song to play but there are a couple of things with the song.  One is, it is a V. Waltz.  Depending on if that is taught next year we will see if we can incorporate it.  Two, the beat changes in some parts (not including the talking part) so it might be hard for dancers to hear the beat in some parts.  Again we will see if it fits next year.

First two songs were played this year.  That does not mean that we won't play it next year.  I am just letting you know that they were played this year at the Ball.

Third song, it is hard to hear a danceable beat to the music.  It doesn't mean that we can't play it, it just means that it may be a bit hard to match it up to a dance.  Thank you for the suggestions.

Piccahoe - classical stuff is great, only concern is V. Waltz and if dancers can hear the beat.  Yes I know this year's BWBall it was hard to hear the beat regardless, :P but we will be remedying that for next year.  Back at One is a good suggestion.

Thanks everyone for your input.  Keep the suggestions coming.  The earlier you get them in the earlier staff can listen to the music and evaluate it.  :D

there's a version of the song that doesn't have the pauses or dialogue or anything, just plain song.  i haven't found it yet but i'll keep looking.

hmm yesh, but don't people prefer lyrical music? And the beat is hard to hear...but we can blast the music louder than so people can hear it >=)...just kidding

I sadly couldn't make this year, but I heard there were some solo dance numbers as well as a little bit of popular music, so in a purely preemptive move to avoid any possibility Wedding Schlock assaulting my ears, I've preemptively complied a comprehensive list of every famous Soul/Motown/Funk/RnB/Blues song that isn't:

1: RESPECT ~ Aretha Franklin
2: YMCA ~ Village People
3: Celebration ~ Kool and the Gang
4: We Are Family ~ Kool and the Gang
5: I Feel Good ~ James Brown
6: Play that Funky Music White Boy ~ Wild Cherry

So hopefully I never have to hear any one of those ever again at least at Fanime.

Most people still know these songs, even if they don't know they know it--they're also some of the most eminently danceable stuff ever written so even if they don't normally listen to this stuff, they should still have a good time.  All of it is as good, or better than those six, and have the distinct advantage of not being disgustingly overplayed. Obviously the list is huge, so I don't expect it in all or even in part to be used, but I figured I should probably offer up some verity if I'm going to kvetch. As I said before, though, this move is purely preemptive, and you might not have been planning anything like I've feared, so if that's the case, simply disregard this message.

Also, feel fee to use any of them that fit the partner dances too! It'd be fun to hear (for me at least, heh :p). Many of these (especially Reet Petite) are very easy swings.

You can find all the songs, pretty much in order, on this Grooveshark playlist: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/playlist/Dance+Set/31758268

Quoteok ok, enough with this classical stuff, I know nobody listens to this stuff.

Well, technically Schubert and Rachmaninoff are Romantics, so nobody would listen to them if you called them--no, I kid, I'm not actually that much of an ass. ;p
"Did I know Szat would betray us?" Urza asked quizzically. "I was counting on it"

michiko nakano

I think that they tend to go for more romantic or classy types of music

Okach

Nope, we didn't play any of the six.  We tended towards J-pop/K-pop/Anime OSTs in the playlist, except for WCS/hustle where we went more Top 40 (Katy Perry, Jay Sean).  There were solo dances, but it was definitely a safety issue out on the floor...

Well,  Rachmaninoff is from an Anime, Nodame, so at least that would count?

I was just going to post that we needed at least one Bowie song in the dance!  I totally agree with you!

Lets Dance, Dancing in the Street, or Dance Magic would also be really good ones.  :)

gftgy

I surely can't request all of these, so I have some waltz suggestions for you to look into. Considering the nature of Fanime, all of these have some connection to a Japanese video game or anime.

Baten Kaitos

To the End of the Journey of Glittering Stars - Motoi Sakuraba
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XARPxxfAeUc
An elegant waltz, but the accent on the first note is subtle, and might cause some confusion with beginners.

Final Fantasy VIII

Fragments of Memories - Nobuo Uematsu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8GmlKEKvjc
The song changes tempo midway through, which may confuse some people.

Final Fantasy X

To Zanarkand - Nobuo Uematsu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lP_anjF6rA
A solo piano piece, very easy to dance to.

Final Fantasy XI

The Grand Duchy of Jeuno - Naoshi Mizuta
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTDCzDgKSMY
When I think of a fancy Ball, I think of a song like this.

Eternal Sonata, Tom and Jerry, and some 15 different animes.

Grand Valse Brillante - Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2r7skqSkNM&feature=watch_response_rev
Only play this if you want to upset people on the floor, or make me happy.

What do you think?

Alyxiane

I have little knowledge of waltz. I just happen to like this little gem. XD

Actually, what is the theme this year?  I know last year we were bending the playlist towards RPG music because last year's FanimeCon theme was anime RPGs...
