You think that the protesters will return next year.

Yeah, he'll probably be there. He lives in my town and was there last year, he's a pretty big advocate of those kinda things. So He'll be back, maybe i'll go to his door with the book of Mormon? Or go as a preacher and preach to him not to go.. nah that wont work, he'll be there.

Cosplay for 2009 is:
Blaire - Soul Eater
Shampoo - Ranma 1/2
Lunamaria - Gundam Seed Destiny
and.. er ya

I was annoyed that they left before I could debate with the bastards. I mean I believe in God, but I believe that their message was based upon HATE...NOT Love like how Jesus did it. I wanted to attack their stupid narrow minds with The Bible. That's usually one of the best ways to destroy these idiots, is to go "Well according to these parts in your Holy Scripture you're WRONG and BAD! Now go away and don't come back until you learn your religion better" >=)

Agreed. I was very frustrated because so many times I see demonstrations like that and I can't help but wonder how many people who might have given the doctrine of Christianity a chance are suddenly shut off to it because of such a negative experience. I agree with Rei in that the message of the Bible boils down to this understanding of love and the good nature that you can nurture within yourself, etc. Looking for the best in people, not using this "righteousness" to pass judgment on the weak and sinful. Those guys probably broke the seven deadly sins before they even walked out the door...so who are they to be judging anyone?

In any case, I hope they don't come back, but I have a feeling they will. To those of you who might encounter them I hope that it doesn't permanently damage your relationship with the beliefs of Christianity. If you've explored it and you just don't think it's for you that's one thing, but for someone (or a group of people) to force it in such a hateful manner upon an unsuspecting group of people is just wrong.

I'm still curious.  What exactly did we do to warrant a protest?  I mean goodness knows we're not perfect and some of the stuff might raise a few eyebrows with some groups.  However, why did we warrant a protest when other conventions don't?  Any ideas?

I think it was more of the demographic that attracted them than anything else. Perhaps if they step in now while the minds are still young and impressionable they can turn them away from the sinful life of cosplay/anime...lol.

That's my belief anyways...not to mention the fact that Anime has a number of controversial representations of divine beings in any number of series. Demons, angels, God and the Devil, etc.

Similar to Harry Potter haters....kinda.

Oh yeah I totally agree. I"m not saying Harry Potter fans were the first, it was just the first thing that came to mind since it's more recent and powerful in my memory...but D&D definitely gets its share of harassment. lol

I say that everyone should bring a "random" protest sign (No on 8, Free Tibet, Not in my back yard,  Save Ferris, et-al) (and use them outside of course) and "dilute" their protest signs in a sea of messages.  ;D

They should be anime related protest signs.  "Giant Robot Mechanics Unionize Now!"  "If You Make 9 Foot Long Swords Illegal Only Criminals Will Have 9 Foot Long Swords."  etc.
