I originally posted this question on the Fanimafia Back-up boards, and decided to bring the question here since the boards are back up.

QuoteSo are you ready for the end of analog T.V come February 17 2009? (Not as if your reminded every two or three minutes while your watching T.V.)
Did you send away for your $40.00 Converter box coupons? Have you got yourself a SDTV or HDTV television? Got digital cable or satellite? How are you going to record stuff now?
     Well?

Well, today seems like a good day to bump this up, seeing in a few hours the 2008 Olympic games start.

Will Digital T.V. be involved with your viewing?  (as in, did you buy a new digital, or digital HD T.V. to watch the games, or get broadcast content)

Jerry

I have Dish network and i have by the regular channel and supposedly the HD channel

i literally put them side to side (using PIP), but I couldnt tell the difference.

If i really wanted to see the details of people muscular figure and whether or not I could see their nipples, you might as well be there in person :P

that plus they keep saying China is filled with smog.
all this bad weather plus HD and i wonder if it makes a difference  ???

It will make a big difference. In HD, you'll literally get the black lung easier now.

You'll get your wonkavision when I get my goose that lays the golden chocolate eggs.

I'm kinda surprised This topic hasn't caught more interest.  Remember this date:2/17/2009  No more analogue broadcasts (by the way Digital T.V. doesn't necessarily mean all broadcasts will be high def.)

Have you seen the prices for high-def TVs? Holysnap!
They're expensive.... Like 1k more or something like that last time I went to bestbuy.

You don't have to spend that much.  Last spring I go a Samsung 450 series 32" LCD T.V. from Fry's for only $699.00.  And my previous Digital T.V. (a Toshiba 26" wide picture-tube) only cost me $299.00.  I'd suggest looking for an Insigna T.V. (made by LG) at Best Buys.  but more importantly, at least get a DTV box.  I got two of the Zenith boxes  from Circuit City, for only $19.95 after the coupon from the government.
The Images are only standard definition, but you can get all the available DTV content in your area. (in L.A.  we get things like news raw on KNBC, The ion networks(4 channels including qubo) ,and lots of extra PBS channels like World (Think of a crossof Discovery channel and the History Channel).

But to be honest, there isn't a lot of HD broadcasts anyway,  and most of it is only 720P (but that does look better than 1080i.)  Also think about how you want to Record DTV.  (I got a killer deal on a Panisoinic DVD recorder with a digital tuner.  It even up-converts to 1080P)

Comcast is starting to host a lot more channels in HD.
Though I find the differences somewhat, subtle...  I believe it's because of our old TV.
But I guess it can't be helped. We'll just have to wait until we actually move and set up the TV.

Comcast is still around?  Wow.  here in So-Cal Time Warner Cable took over most of their assets.

Our 15 year old 20" tv just died last week. So we bought a new 40" HD TV. It was a $1500 TV on sale at Frys this week for only $1100 but we bought the last one that was out of the box for $900. Saved $600-score. We haven't had cable in over 6 years. So this 'going digital' doesn't actually effect me. We just use our TV to watch movies, tv shows rented off of Net Flix and play video games.

Sounds like you're all set then.  What brand T.V. did you get?
