Fine I'll chill, i'm just scared I hope who directs it will be good, I mean this was one of my first animes and one of my all time favorite animes to boot.

Let's give this one the benefit of the doubt and not bash it until we see SOMETHING. Just judging the movie based on the actor isn't exactly the smartest thing to do. Even though Reeves hasn't impressed me in the past, I not going to say the movie will suck either if that's the only basis I'm going off of.

I don't know... Just imagining Keanu with spikes hair makes me shudder, and Keanu's voice is no where near Spike's... Steve Blum should definately VO Keanu's voice... And Keanu doesn't have no where near as much swagga as Spike. Spike is badass, fuh'sho, fuh'sho. I guess, we'll jsut have to see. x3 I hope it's good though... But I'm giving it more of a doubt than benefit. :1

Everybody is scared that the adaptation will kill how well done
the series is. So far it hasn't been good (counting video game
movies).

I rather see another animated movie for Beebop than live action.
That is the otaku purist in me..:/

Touche!

Actually I will take that back about the adaptations, there has been a few good ones but they are not from the US.

Death Note (All 3 movies)
Honey and Clover
Nana
Cromartie High School
Detroit Metal City

I am thankful that the Evangelion live action movie never happened, but instead we get a awesome retelling of the series as 4 movies animated by Gainax/Project Eva/Kharas.

You thought Deathnote was a good live action?!?! LOL Im sorry but it looked poorly done I mean sure tatsuya fujiwara and Kenichi are decent actors but It didnt take away the crappy cgi and low budget filming, Japan has really crummy Live actions based from anime I havent seen a decent one besides detroit metal city though I was half asleep when I watched it (late night cram sessions for the win)

Like I said earlier Wait untill the movie is out then you can baww about how japan is superior or whatever after

Not Japan is superior  @.@;;  about how the Hollywood market can butcher good stories/games/series/comics.  (Sorry, not a fan of the RE, Mortal Combat, last Spiderman/X-men, etc movies.)

They seem to be getting better with the comic book movies (thankyouthankyouthankyou), but I don't have much faith in them adapting an anime very well  :(

Alot of people who baww when an anime LA is going to be done in the US they complain that japan can do a better job.
Well it depends on the directors take of it sometimes they want to change it up, like M Night Shamalan doing the live action of Avatar the last air bender Im pretty psyched he has an amazing direction I mean lady in the water was beautiful. But his recent film flopped so im a bit uneasy on it

The hollywood blows more money on special effects and such than most international directors

If Guilermo del toro (who directed Pans Labyrinth and the last hellboy movie) took hold of cowboy bebop I would be amazed and blow 8 bucks just to see it. I loved how he did Pan's Labyrinth it made me cry because it was so welldone and beautiful

Im guessing cowboy bebop might be directed by the Wochowski brothers since they are anime fans themselves lol

Haha Im hoping that Repo! the genetic Opera will be a success based on the trailers~ Alot of people have been bashing it as of recent because Paris Hilton is going to play Amber Sweet, well I personally want to give her a chance.

So Like I stated dont knock it till you try it.

Raymei

M Night Shamalan's movies always go "hit, miss, hit, miss".  I couldn't really see him doing an adaptation since he works more with his own stuff, so I'd be hesitant of him taking on someone else's work.
But I would definitely be curious to see what he'd come up with.

Guilermo del toro is a fantastic director, I agree!  I don't know if I'd pair him up with a series like Cowboy Bebop since he's usually more along fantasty/realistic-fantasy   :)   and he weaves beautiful pieces in that genre, I think.
But with something more "mechanic-scifi" like Cowboy Bebop, I don't think his style would really go well with it.  It would be an interesting movie (and more likely than not, a good one!), but probably not a "Cowboy Bebop Movie".

I think you hit the nail on the head there with the Wochowski brothers, though.
I'm not a fan of the Matrix movies, personally, but I think they could do amazing things with something like Cowboy Bebop  (and definite good point about them being fans of the genre and so being familiar with it already).  They have experience with the more tech-based worlds and have a good handle on graphics.

But I still can't see Keanu as Spike.        ...*yet*.
lol that one's for you  :P

BunofGovt

My big worry is that graphics, special effects, sci-fi tech whatever will not make a good film.  It's the characters.  From what I've seen of Keanu's previous films, I can't see him carrying off Spike's personality.  I can't see him interacting with the rest of the cast the way Spike interacts with Jet, Faye, Ed, etc.  Well, time will tell, wait and see, etc. etc.

Who am I kidding!  Odds are, I'll give the film a miss and re-watch the original instead.

Keanu Reeves will go down in history as the guy who played Spike from Cowboy Bebop.

Steven Blum will go down in history as the guy who was the voice of the Ruby Tuesdays commercials.

In 30 years, someone will watch the original series of Cowboy Bebop, then turn it off after 10 minutes or so because "Spike acted nothing like he did in the movie."

How does this make you feel?
It ain't the meaning of life but the feeling of it.

Ummmm yeah he won't go down as history as the guy who played Spike from Cowboy Bebop. He'll be known for his bigger roles such as Neo in The Matrix trilogy, or as Ted in the Bill and Ted movies.

Reason why i can see him doing the action bits, but cant see him pull Spikes attitude off.

I don't totally agree with your pick that Honey and Clover was one of the better live action remakes either.  It was surprisingly below part what I expected, given how good the animated version was.

And where on that list is the live action for Hana Kimi? Now *that* was a pretty entertaining live remake.

Shamalama has already disappointed me with the live action Avatar movie when they made the main characters an all white cast, when the Avatar universe is clearly diverse. My only hope right now is that Jesse McCartney is not cast as Zuko.

anyways, in regards to Keanu Reeves playing Spike, I'd have to agree with the majority here. As much as I loved him in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, I just can't see the guy playing Spike - his personality just seems completely opposite of Spike. I dunno, I guess I'll have to wait until I see a trailer or something, but for now my hopes aren't too high.

Diverse?  Don't you mean "asian"?

Anyways yeah I'm psyched about the Avatar movie also.  I can't wait for the retarded plot twist he's gonna throw at the series.

Eh, I don't care. IF its balls to the walls awesome then YAY!!! my favorite TV show ever! Just got better. IF it sucks then I pretend it doesn't exist (like most video game movies). If its awesome then more people will watch the series leading to more people to watch anime make the industry more mainstream in the USA and hopefully having more anime that appeals to western taste instead all this MOE crap. If it sucks nobody watches it. It tanks. Hollywood doesn't make anymore anime adaptations, and despite curbing some folks away from anime. Most fans will continue to watch anime and the industry continues on it path. Pretty simple.
