I remember doing it once along time ago but can't for the life of me remember how.  I stick around for the gun fight and get his back and he still ends up dead in the med lab in the next chapter.  What am I doing wrong?

You'd be surprised how unhelpful gamefaqs was, what with it's many faqs but no answer.

I found it in 4 different FAQs

Gamefaqs.com does help. I go there once in a while if I'm either having trouble or if I need to find hinting items. If not just buy a Strategy Guide if they have made one.
