Hi everyone,

To start off my name is Vincent. Where I live we've had a anime convention for the past 15 years, but sadly it's now coming to its end. The convention it self has gone through three different societies now and the almost the same people keep killing it!

The society that now runs the con is looking at being shut down by the Alberta government (Yes it's a Canadian con), since the financial information hasn't been filed for the past few years right. And the board for society that runs the convention have mostly staffed the event there friends. The bad thing is last years convention ended up being a let down for almost everyone, some of the vendors aren't returning, other are buying less space, the website doesn't even look like its for an anime convention ECT.

I do think that some that are working on this years convention are doing there best but 1/3 of the staff aren't doing anything thinking that someone else will pickup the work, another 1/3 fights with in its self pointing blame on things that haven't gotten done, and the last 1/3 fights to see what will be done!

I'm trying to say as much as I can, with out saying to much since I have inside information (I'm staff for the con) . Being as it is, making a new society and passing on the convention name is not really an option since most vendors hate the name of the convention now, and fans are..... "Unhappy"

At this time the best thing I can think of is to start a competing convention under a company, and not an origination or society. If this was done, the same people would be able to join that have destroyed the convention under three different societies. Being in the position I'm in and worked as the convention staff before, I've filed and got the new company registered, got the business license, I've done the financial work for expenses, and cost recovery (I have a few years of doing this ^_^  )  The only thing I need help on is getting a basic outline that I can use for grant request so the convention can get funding.  I was told that since Fanimecom was set up by multiple Anime clubs I might be able to find some one that could help with the last mile.

If anyone knows someone I should talk too, or could offer help please feel free to contact me. My email is [email protected]

Have you tried the anime convention's mailing list (ACML)? You'll find a lot of people on there who run anime conventions and can give you some good advice.
