Howard Johnson Express Inn(feedback anyone?)

This years I'm not staying with a group like last time, just my boyfriend and I are getting a room so we actually have a quiet place to sleep for the night(and not fight for a shower with five other people). We're looking at booking a room at the Howard Johnson, so I was wondering if any other congoers have stayed there and what they thought of it? Mostly I'd like to stay there because of the low price and free parking, though walking a mile after a full day at the con doesn't sound all that appealing.

We'd like to stay at the Fairemont or St Claire, but we're not booking for at least another month and those will probably be filled up (crossing fingers for luck ^^;)

Any info I can get is greatly appreciated. Thank guys!

How much are you actually saving? Did you factor in things such as taxes and fees? Also consider things such as shopping and getting to showing or panel on time.

Yes, I looked into all of that. I won't have any panels to join in or a strict schedule to go by so I'm not worried about that. But it's around 60 a night depending on how soon I book. The only thing I'm worried about is if 40ish a night less plus no parking fees is really worth not being able to go back to the room if I forgot something or to make my own lunch, so I'll end up spending quite a bit more on food.

I just like to make sure I weigh all of my options before I make a final decision.

You can always reserve a room at the Fairmont or Saint Claire until you figure out which hotel to pick. As long as you cancel within a few weeks (maybe even a few days) they wont charge your card.

Also consider the surrounding area which you'll be walking through. Downtown is pretty safe, but there are seedy sections just a few blocks away that I wouldn't want to walk through late at night. Plus, the weight of your purchases or if you cosplay should be considered.

Not to dissuade you from the Howard Johnson, I've heard many good things about the chain.

I may be able to reserve early than I thought, so now I'm aiming for the Fairmont since I won't be charged right away.

i stayed there my first year of fanime which was 2008 ...ugh the only room they had was a smoking one ......the memories ......

ehh, smoking rooms are no fun, I live with smokers already I don't wanna be around it on a vacation. I got lucky though, when hotel reg went up my brother let me use his card to book a room at the Ramada(WAY closer), now I just have to change the info to my card when I get one.
