Alright, thanks! I'm really looking forward to this year's fanime. >:D

(Not to mention stuffing papers into bags sounds nifty. Sorta. Kinda. Okay, so I thought the hand-outs were cool.)

Ok well I'm interested in being a volunteer too, but like on one or two days, not the whole time. Is there a list to sign up to volunteer in advance or something for a certain day?

No, you just stop by the Vol Hole during con. You don't have to work all four days, but you do have to work a total of 20 hours to get reimbursed for your badge.

If we don't have work for you, you get to sit in the Vol Hole and play video games. That counts for your 20 hours  :P But if we suddenly have work for you, you gotta leave your game quick.

You can volunteer if you're under 18... You just need to get your parents to sign the waiver form: http://www.fanime.com/contact/join_us.html

Early arriving vols...
« Reply #66 on: May 09, 2005, 01:29:24 PM »

I will be arriving on Thursday, May 26th, 2005 in hopes there will be some early volunteering to do. Will this be okay? I have volunteered for Fanime before and I really enjoy the experiance.

Any idea what will be available for early arriving Volunteers to do?

Yes, the logistics department is still looking for help before the convention and after it as well.  Take a look at my post for more information.

Though hearing about the Vol hole, do staff get to hang there too ?

Oh and I know we dont have to work there the whole week. But can we work there for the whole week ? Because I wanna work there the whole week if I can.

Oh if I start purring, don't worry I am in my happy place =^_^=

I'm working for Logistics as a Staff member, it's my first time at a convention too. I don't know if we can keep the badges, but I think so (just a wild guess). Were you at the meeting today?

if you joined VOLS... you will be asked which areas you want to help out. it's not necessarily work, but you are helping out the department you are assigned to. let's say registration needs vols, they might ask you to distribute the on-site registration slips and pens. or hentai marathon, one of the video programming coordinators will ask you to do crowd control. those are the types of duties and stuff you are asked to do. nothing dangerous.
also, if you are a minor, you will be asked to sign a form with parents' signature. might wanna do that before the con hits. contact volunteer staff for this.

I'll meet new friends if I'm staff? Does that mean I won't meet anyone new as a volunteer? That sucks! teehee! I dunno, staff sounds kinda scary....like there's more responsibility involved. And lemme get this out now, I'm great at doing what people tell me, but I suck at telling others what to do. Is there a huge difference between staff and vols?

well if you want to become Vols, that's fine. no one is forcing you to.  :o
i mean, since you've already decided that you want to be part of Fanime it is either you want to become a Vol or staff. if want to be a Vol, you'll have to wait for next year. for staff, heck as soon as the staff meetings will take place then you'll have an opportunity to know who's who and what's what.

i tell you what, if you want you can attend the future staff meetings and see for yourself. you'll get a chance to meet the fanime staff and you'll have an opportunity to meet them in person and you can rain on them some questions. but you'll have to wait, since the upper brass are still working on the future agenda. so sit tight.  8)

wow, so much dedication.   it's only been like almost 2 months since 05 con ended.  8)

I would sign up, but i do not know if i will be working at another job yet.  I would need the job to help fund me for Fanime T_T...  Otherwise i would even sign up to be staff because it seems like fun.

I believe Staffers recieve free entrance and a discount for the hotels, so perhaps becoming a staff would aid you in your quest for funds. Plus it's nearly a whole another six months or more until Fanime comes around again. =]

@Hakudoshi: (I'm guessing) that they do work such as helping to organize quickly, some gruntwork perhaps, other tasks in the same category.
