What's the worst time period for traffic on Friday? Anyone know?

I'm coming from Santa Rosa Friday morning, and I just want to avoid terrible traffic. I know the later into the afternoon it gets the more of a cesspool it becomes (I've gone at 3 before. Arrrrgh!!) I also know people get into oodles of accidents all the time and that will ruin everyone's commute, but still.

What are morning commute hours in the bay area generally? Luckily I won't be heading into SF, but....

I don't drive over to the bay area much, clearly.

Also, I was hoping to drop my most beautiful of dogs (I swear this dog is AWESOME.)  off at daycare at around 7 to head down. I'm worried about traffic on 101 going toward SF, but I don't think it will be too too bad. I'd just like to avoid some of the traffic closer to Oakland and Santa Clara.

In the morning it's usually okay, and it depends on which highway(s) you take. 101 is always busy at different parts of it; after SF usually it's the worst around Mountain View/Palo Alto if you're not carpooling (at least that's the case in the afternoon, it's always a clusterf* around Rengstorff).

ETA: Morning commute times are usually 7-9/10, I don't live far away enough from my work to take highways but I have friends and coworkers who get stuck on 280 forever if they leave around then.

The 101 South will be busy 7-10 Until you pass Cuppertino generally. The commute from Santa Rosa at that time will take roughly 2 hours on a normal day. But you need to keep in mind, that this is memorial day weekend and most likely traffic will be worse due to a lot of people taking Friday off to travel. If possible I wouldn't leave until like... 11. That will cut down the commute probably by half(keep in mind, I live in So Cal and when I drive I go roughly 75-80 at all times). The only disadvantage is the longer line you may get for registration, but normally, the line is roughly the same length at that time as it would be at around 9ish anyways.

You should be familiar with traffic going down to SF. I would be wary of leaving Santa Rosa anytime before 8 or 9AM. But if you take 280 down from SF it will be smooth riding down to Cupertino. That stretch between Cupertino and the SJCC is only bad before 10AM or so.

Basically if you clear the traffic going in to SF, then it will be even more clear going into SJ an hour later.

the SJ traffic will start getting bad again at 3 or 4PM.

I live in Santa Rosa as well and I've found it not bad really to travel down around any hour as long as there isn't a major rush. I'm leaving this year on Thursday just because but it's usually not that bad. Sure the city can get some traffic but that's what you'd expect since there are so many people in one town.
