First Fanime - Insider Tips

Hey guys -

This will be my first Fanime - my first anime con ever, in fact - and I've been trolling about here and over at cosplay.com, and it seems like there's a whole bunch of fun stuff that goes on that's not official, so if anyone has any tips for me to be able to get into the thick of it, please share!

Does one have to be in costume for a lot of it?  I only have one costume planned but have more (non-anime related) that can be pulled out if necessary.

Also, I'm new to the Bay Area in general, and wouldn't mind making some new friends!  I'm 24, so if you're over 21 and would like to hang out at the con, please drop me a line. :)

There's already been a thread posted with some handy survival tips here ^_^ They're really helpful, so hopefully they'll be of use to you!

As for cosplaying, there's no need to be in costume the entire time; many people aren't cosplaying at all, so there's no pressure to be. It's purely your decision, and purely for fun.

Don't be afraid to approach people in line, the majority of us are really friendly. See you there!

Welcome Kandy!  There's tons to do and see, especially for us over 21 folks. Plus, the ball on Sat. Night is not to be missed...hope to see you there.  I'll be the guy in blue below =)

This will also be my first anime con also, but I just had to get a few outfits together.

Plenty of "unofficial" fun to be had for the over 21 at the con, which can lead to even more fun at the "official" things!  :P  Just remember no open containers on the con floor!

And if you would like a photo of you in your cosplay contact me or check out my thread in the cosplay forum!  I'm using Fanime for a photography class project, and need as many cosplay models as possible.

I'm not a terribly big drinker myself, but I find if I don't specify an age I end up being surrounded by teenagers!  Not that I have anything against them, but now and again one does like to hang out with people their own age.  :wink:  That being said, I'd love to hang out with everyone, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, blah, blah, blah.  :D

1fireforge - you're doing a Voltron cosplay?  Oh, you are so my hero.  I've been debating making an Allura costume for a few years now.

Shiny things are well and good, but not an excuse.  Have you figured out what you're going to wear so I can look for you and heckle you in person? =)

Today and Saturday and Monday (probably) I shall be average Silicon Valley person.  Sunday I will be dressed as Hirako Shinji from Bleach.  :D  I shouldn't be too hard to find.  I'll be the tall blonde chick accompanied by shorter Asian chick.  (She says I should say ubershorter. :D )

If I get my presentation for the panel finished before 7, look for the tall guy in Edo period hakama, kimono, tabi, and zori.  Saturday during the day, I'll be Masaki Tenchi, but in the evening, look for Lance =)  Sunday is TBD...Monday may not happen, but we'll see...!

Definitely next time - we'll be more prepared - pick a time and a location, perhaps. :D  And who knows - maybe I'll get to Allura before next year.
