Cool. I was in the Tekken Tourney two years ago. Couldn't take part in last years, but I'd like to play again this year. Can't wait.

pre-register with richard in the other thread.  Being a music game, I assume this is a game everyone thinks they're good at and will want to enter.

And Orochi will enter, win for free, the end.

Damnit man, now that you revealed the secret entrant, nobody will want to enter. :(

i was wondering if there will be a specific song list for the rock band tournament, and will everyone have to play on expert? i was also wondering if i could bring my mega pedal, and even lend it to the event if you would like, because it cannot break, and would be a good way to make sure there is no screwed up equipment.

JTchinoy

I'll discuss that with Richard this coming Sunday during the fanime meeting.

while you're discussing the rules for the rock band tourney, i found these rules for another tourney, so maybe these might be a good template.   http://www.warfactory.net/events/rock-band-fundraiser-hazelwood-central-signup/rock-band-tournament-rules/

audience participation? eww. Suddenly sounds like popularity contest. :(

that's kind of what rock band is about.  anyone can get a high score, but if they can rock out on stage and get the audience engaged, thats what a rock band is actually about.  most rock band and guitar hero tournaments actually regard presentation higher than score.  There was this one tournament where PristMLH (almost best GH player in world) 5 starred jordan and nearly got 100 %, but this other guy Freddy, was just doing stage dives and all this stuff and even though he missed a lot of notes, he won because he looked more presentable than just a guy standing there.  So yeah, it might be a little bit of a popularity contest, but in all fairness, that's what bands are about.

hopefully you guys have something interesting in the Beatmania tournament, I want to see people having fun believing they have a chance to win and not the best person is just going to walk away and everyone feeling sad, or scared cause they know hes the best.

I know lets apply a rule for all the good players they can only use one finger on each hand XD

Yeah, Rock Band and Guitar Hero Torny rules are really whack sometimes.

Personally, I see those rules to completely void the need to be even good at a game to win.

Bottom line, don't use those rules.

I personally can't justify using judges to determine winners.
Being from the DDR community (at one point in my life), I understand the unavoidable bias that judges bring to the table.  Seeing this bias, I try to make all tournaments as unbiased as I possibly can.

If you want tournaments with judges and to have presentation, I would suggest bringing this up with maybe Stage 0 or something, since it would be more fitting to have a performance based Rock Band tournament on a stage.  I unfortunately want these tournaments to be score based because I want to avoid any bias.  If someone is really cool with most onlookers, that person's group will undoubtedly win "crowd participation".  This is how I experienced freestyle for DDR tournies and I don't want to see it happen again.

Don't ask me to judge because I'm a very harsh critic, especially of myself.  Then you have to make a weight system on how much gross score and how much crowd participation affect the total score.

Chris, what do you have in mind for beatmania/ IIDX?  If we needs judges again, I'd rather not.

orochi would still win...

Orochi could use a PS2 pad... and still beat 99% of the people that would show up at fanime.

Really?  I've only seen how insane he is at svgl.  Never on a controller... that's like winning a brawl tournament with just a wiimote (no nunchuck)
