This takes me back to when me and my friend used to be a couple. Her mom is a total racist douche. She would expect me to know everything about mexico. And to let me know she thought I was alright, she would tell me "I forgive you for being mexican", and would tell people "he doesn't really count as a mexican". On the other side of the family, her dad and second his wife would assume I was too stupid to pass college or properly save money becuase I wasn't white or asian.(he is japanese, score one for the otakus.lol XD)
So I got both sides of a bumbling fool being a racist and strict-asshole being a racist.

Everyone's racist some way or another
To put it more accurately, people can act racist without realizing that they are being racist. It's a pity that schools teach you to tolerate races but don't really tell you to differentiate between race and culture.(coming somebody who went to a very liberal high school) Although I did have one teacher here at the college tell me that race doesn't really exist and is just a concept. but thats a whole other discussion. XD

Off topic I go.  I had a professor once who was huge on understanding racial culture in education.  How did she start this conversation?  By coming up to my desk on the first day of school, grabbing my desk by both sides and screaming in my face, "The only reason you've ever achieved anything in your life is because you're a middle class white woman!!  And we all know that."  Then walking away.  Woman didn't even know my NAME forget anything about my history.  Never mind that I was at the top of my class while paying for my entire education by myself, no scholarships I figured if I wanted the education I'd better be willing to work for it.  Woman didn't know ANYTHING about me.  Spent the rest of the semester telling us all that we needed to make sure we knew that 40% of our Hispanic students wouldn't graduate high school, so we'd better teach them while we had our hands on them (she was Hispanic).

I worked twice as hard for my grades and never heard a positive thing from her.  Then when the semester was over one of her "golden" students was busted for inappropriate behavior with a student during classroom observation.  Her job was on the line, her program was on the line.  I saved her sorry butt with my observation records and the thank you letters my teachers sent her.

I don't care WHAT color she is, she was GREEN the day she had to say "thank you" to me.  Almost made the semester from Hell worth it to see her squirm when the "middle class white woman" saved her job.
Sometimes I'm glad I became a teacher.  Other times I wish I had simply become a ninja.

And even more off topic we go. ^^
This reminds me of a native spanish speakers teacher I had in high school. The instructor would talk as if we were constantly being picked on by white people at school.(so lulz and not true.) The whole class was him pretty much him preaching how mexicans are superior. XD  He then bitched because the school told him not to teach religion in class.
About the only good thing about that class is that despite not doing shit,I got an A.(most likely because I didn't question his authority XD)

Ack... Had a bad day.

I've heard of intances where students have to deal with racist teachers. I've been lucky so far and don't really have to deal with that...

So like...

Just yesterday[5/4/08] I met an online friend (P-chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!) for the first time. It was awkward at first but as time progressed I got comfortable with him and eased up. So, on the last day of out being together I called my Daddy (P-chan, you should remember this) , we talked, and I mentioned that the guy I was with was outside of my race. So Daddy was like "You're special" and I'm like "Huh? What do you mean?" and he's like "You don't like your own kind".

...

He said that because I have an open mind when it comes to who I date and black men haven't been on the list as of recent. It pissed me off and damn near ruined my whole day. Of course the concept of "Well, if you love the person, GO for it!" come in to mind, but it so hard to think that way when it's not just one person, but a nice portion of your family that feels this way...(They aren't racist... Well not really) -Sigh-

I know this ain't a blog but... Got any pointers? I can't help but feel like everytime I take intrest in someone outside of my race I'll be persecuted by my family and fellow black folks...  :'(

i kow how you feel i'm dating outside my race ive already gotten some of my family ticked off at me ( he's japanese i'm mexican) and his sisters and mom always talk shit about me behined my back but regardless of that we still love each other very much i dont think race matters when youre i love, one of my freinds would say "Who cares you're dating him not his family" and thats true thats what it is

I totally agree! I just hope my family doesn't run off and do some shit like that.

Some pointer, and I will be honest. It's way to fast. Don't ever say you love someone you've known for days, even weeks, sometimes even months. For the parent(s) thing, don't mind them. Don't try and go off saying "I don't need you, etc." You will still need your parents, trust me on this one. Try and work it, at first go against your parent(s) and continue to date, but still show your parent(s) that they aren't bad.

As a gay, Mexican, AND Mormon male, you would think that I would be clashing with a whole bunch of crap. But suprisingly, things have been rather smooth for me. I would be lying if I said I never had instances in school or at home where I was subject to taunts or insults, but for the most part I have been accepted. I know for a fact that if my family could accept me for the way I am, then the issue of me dating someone of a different race would not be an issue. If they did, it would be sort of hypocritical.

On a different note, my high school went through three different Spanish teachers throughout my four years. One, in particular, everyone DETESTED. I had to admit that she was inconsiderably mean and horrible, but not to me. She adored me, praised me, and I didn't even have any classes with her! And I know that it was simply because I was Mexican and could speak Spanish with her. What's funny is that my high school had two hispanic students, and I was one of them, lol. ( Yeah, I went to a very liberal, albeit, non-diverse school ) She got into major trouble one time when she made a horrible comment about a Hungarian girl and her upbringing. I was suprised she wasn't fired.

But anyways, I know it was way off topic, but felt like sharing my two cents :)
