Okay, so I just heard about the Fanime Con about.. 45 minutes ago.
I have.. alot.. alot.. of questions..

- Which days are worth going? Why?
- Does it matter if we cosplay or not? Will we [ Meaning my friend and I ] stand out if we don't go in costumes?
- Do you have to pay to enter?
- What events are when?

Yeah.. those are the few I can think of at the moment.
Friend and I are frantically trying to think up of last-minute costumes and trying to figure out which days to go.
Any help A.S.A.P would really be nice.
Thank you <3

Magedark

Well, thursday-monday are all worth going.

You probably won't stand out if you don't wear costume. You will probably stand out if you ARE wearing one. (I'll just dress in a robe and a mage hat thing)

You have to pay to enter. $55 for all days I believe?

Go to the front page of the site and download the PDF schedule.

I downloaded and printed out the schedule.
I can't afford all days though, unless I bust my arse off earning money.
But, my friend and I want to go as Domo-Kun.

And, I have a question, what is the average age for the people there?
Y'see, we're young.. and. We don't want to stand out if we're TOO young. Y'know?

DomoRulesTheWorld

Just thought of another question.

-When do I buy the tickets?
Where? Online? I heard something about Thursday..
But I'm not sure.

Can anyone give me the info they know about buying and getting Tickets?
First time to a Fanime con. Cut some slack and please try to understand!

Magedark

Well, it's too late for online. You buy at the door starting Friday at 8 a.m. I think you need a government ID, but I'm not sure for at the door passes.

Okay, It's too late for online.
Will the line be long?
And since my friend and I dun have an ID... If my mom brings us, will she need a consent from my friend's mum?

Also, I've been reading around. We only plan to go a day, since we are as poor as dirt. People say get a hotel, is that only for people who are going all weekend? Or should we really get a hotel?

Magedark

Not sure about the line. It's my first time.

As for the consent, I think you need consent, but I think I'll leave this question to other people.

Don't get a hotel if your staying for a day.

Okay, change of plans.
My mum said she doesn't want to risk my friend coming incase we wait in line and they won't let us in.
So, if her brother went.. whom is 18, he would still need the consent from her mom, right?

And hotels, okays.
Do you know when the best days would go?
I was thinking Friday. Cuz that's when the Dealers are, but people say bring cash. Is that because the Dealers won't accept Credit/Debit or for other reasons..?

Magedark

Bring cash because I don't think all dealers accept credit/debit. I'm pretty sure some do, but some won't.

DomoRulesTheWorld

I've got the cash and showering down.

Now, about the dealers...
So the word is, bring money. Like.. atleast $100?

But then again, that's a lot. & It could be stolen, so..

Are the Dealers expensive?
Just need to know.

Wow, seems like you're a bit late coming out of the starting gate, but that's ok! That's how it was for me and JTAF.

Anyways, here's the lowdown:

First, regarding registration- I believe that as long as you are 13 years of age or older and you have the money to buy the badge, you can do it on your own. You and your friend can bring school ID's, since government IDs are mainly required for pre-registered folks to get their badges (having submitted their information earlier, they'd need to confirm it with staff via a government ID). Even in this case, they are willing to accept school ID's and such, so you and your friend should be fine with a school ID.

Second, I would recommend going on Saturday or Sunday. Der Cosplay is on Saturday this year, as well as a lot of major panels and tons of other great stuff, but the major downside is if you haven't pre-registered, the line to get in on Saturday is by far the worst of all 4 days. This can be remedied in one of two ways: 1) Get there REALLY FRIGGIN EARLY (lines open at 8 AM, so if you got to the convention center at about 7 AM you should have a decent place in line) or 2) Go on Sunday, when the lines aren't quite so bad.  To get your tickets you'll just enter the main hall of the convention center and get into the "Non Pre-registration" line to get your badge. You may be waiting there a while, so bring something to entertain yourself.

Third, the tickets vary depending on which day you go:
Friday:  $25
Saturday:  $30
Sunday:  $30
Monday:  $20

Fourth, the average age? If I had to guess, the average is 15-17. You've got a lot of college students, a lot of middle and high school students, and a smattering of older folks. You won't really stand out too much for being too young unless you're like, 8 or 9, wandering around by yourself...and I find that highly unlikely considering if you were that young you would need a guardian or chaperone.

Fifth, no, you don't need to wear a costume. Cosplay is a great sub-culture in Anime fandom, but not everyone is inclined to participate. A lot of the fun is getting pictures of these brave souls/awesome costumes. So, yeah...don't worry about dressing up.

Finally, the Dealers are there all weekend. Friday-monday. A lot of them accept debit, but if you want to be safe to make sure you can buy something from a vendor you like, go ahead and bring some cash along. Some of the dealers are expensive, and you almost never want to buy DVDs as you can find them cheaper online like, 90% of the time. $100 is a solid amount to bring in order to make off with some decent swag, so stick with that for now. You're right about it possibly getting stolen, but that's your choice to make whether you bring debit or cash. The dealers offer some good deals on manga, wall scrolls and pretty much everything else though, so keep that in mind.

If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

I just wanted to add that Sunday is also good to go if you where wanting to go to MusicFest and see An Cafe. Also I saw something about hotel rooms that you had a question about. For starts only get a room if you are planing to stay late or staying more than one day and live far away. Also the online booking for the discounted hotels maybe either closed by now or just full booked. I am not too sure on that so you should check yourself if you do plan on staying someplace. From what I understand there are some cheaper places near by as well just be sure to do your home work on what area is best for you.

I have my own question in regards to ID's. I pre-registered my best friend and myself under my debit card. She doesn't have a government ID though because she's getting her license in a few months.... the only form of ID she has is her permit and her community college ID. What advice to you have for that? This is sort of freaking me out, actually... >>: I don't want her to not be able to get in because I used my debit for everything. D:

- Which days are worth going? Why?
The best days with the most going on are Saturday & Sunday. All days are worth going but there's rarely much going on thursday or monday worth doing IMO

- Does it matter if we cosplay or not? Will we [ Meaning my friend and I ] stand out if we don't go in costumes?
Nope. If you copslay you'll probably have more fun and meet more ppl but it's not like anyone is going to think you're weird for not cosplaying.

- Do you have to pay to enter?
If you want to walk around the con and take pictures of cosplayers then no. If you want to get into the dealers room or into any of the main events then yes.

- What events are when?
So much, every day. go check out the schedule: http://www.fanime.com/file_download/43/Fans+-+BW+-+Fanime+Master+Schedule.pdf
