Hotel and Facilities / Re: Place for luggage?
May 21, 2008, 11:59:04 PM
Maybe it's different here but in the past when checking my luggage at any hotel they only asked for my name to put on the tag. I've never needed to prove I was staying at the hotel. So in therory you could just go to the lobby of the hilton or marriot and ask to check your luggage...

General Convention Discussion / Re: Confused

- Which days are worth going? Why?
The best days with the most going on are Saturday & Sunday. All days are worth going but there's rarely much going on thursday or monday worth doing IMO

- Does it matter if we cosplay or not? Will we [ Meaning my friend and I ] stand out if we don't go in costumes?
Nope. If you copslay you'll probably have more fun and meet more ppl but it's not like anyone is going to think you're weird for not cosplaying.

- Do you have to pay to enter?
If you want to walk around the con and take pictures of cosplayers then no. If you want to get into the dealers room or into any of the main events then yes.

- What events are when?
So much, every day. go check out the schedule: http://www.fanime.com/file_download/43/Fans+-+BW+-+Fanime+Master+Schedule.pdf

Limebarb is almost always late. Most comissioners are. I've heard many horror stories about people getting their costumes/wigs/props almost a year late. Limebarb is one of the few that make good costumes though, just who knows when you'll get it. I seriously don't know a single cosplay comissioner that regularly get's their costumes out in time :(

BSaphire, who's organizing the offical list of gatherings asked if we could meet inside the convention center's main enterance right by the fountains instead of outside at the fountains because there are already like 3 gatherings happening outside. Hope that's cool with everyone.

I edited the first post to reflect slightly different location. I guess there were too many gatherings happening at 3 by the fountains so we're going to meetup right inside the main convention center enterance (right by the fountains).

Ok since this is all on short notice and we didnt hear too many objections to Sunday 3:00pm I went ahead and posted on the cosplay list thread that Felicity listed. I hope that is ok with all.

I also think we could make some small flyers to leave on the registation table and advertise? I don't know just trying to drum up a crowd for this.

Ok, I posted about it over on cosplay.com and in the cosplay section of our forum. Flyers are a great idea.

I know, we should have gotten our act together and posted about this sooner. A few of us over on the Meetings, Gatherings, and Get Togethers part of the forum have been tossing around the idea of having a random pirates/ninja gathering and finally decided that it is happening.

This is for all pirates and ninjas (anime related or not). So if you have a awesome cosplay from One Piece or Naruto, decided to bring your Pirates of the Carribean costume or just happen to have random pirate or ninja outfits lying around-now is the time to wear them.

When: Sunday @ 3pm
Where: Meeting right inside the main enterance to the Convention Center (near the fountains)

So who wants to join us?

Lets do Sunday @ 3pm: does this work for people?

And as for location, I am not familiar w/ the center, so someone suggest something.
Sunday at 3 is fine by me. We could meetup at the fountains in front of the convention center? That's a pretty easy place to find one another and where most meetups start off. If we figure out all the details before the end of tomorrow it can still be added to the main gathering list: http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,7748.0.html

why not just do it at the naruto or one piece gathering?
or is this a straight up none anime ninja vs pirate gathering?
There will be like 5456451515 people at the naruto gathering, I don't know if we'd actually find one another in all that mess. Personally I'm going to be wearing pirate lolita clothes so I'd feel pretty silly at a naruto/one piece gathering.  I think having just a pirate/ninja gathering in gerneral would be fun. That way it can be for various pirate/ninja animes and non anime pirates & ninjas to all join fources for one giant random photoshoot of awesomeness.

seriously, this needs to happen. When? My husband and I will totally be pirated out, not sure which day. Willing to make that decision based on when/if this happens. Details, now, give.

I'm down. call me if it actually happens.

I couldn't get the weekend off work and my mom lives all the way up in Sacramento. :( So I sent her flowers, to the wrong address. Aperantly the address saved in my GPS is the right street but the wrong house number. So she won't get her flowers for a few more days. I fail.

I totally forgot about the concert because I have zero interest in it but I'm sure there are a lot of people that will be going...

How late at night are we wanting to do this? Late enought that it's not crowded but still early enough that there is decent light?

and we will play this outside on grass right....? I really don't want to get hurt...or my costumes hurt....

For sure on the grass. We wouldn't want any costumes or people hurt ;)

Saturday night is obviously a no go because of the cosplay masquerade. Thursday I won't actually be there. So which would be better friday or sunday?

I'll be there and I'm bringing my husband (who even promissed to dress up, woot). We plan on making cupcakes, tea sanwhiches and bringing a blanket or two. Is there anything else you can think of that we should bring?

The shady area outside seems like a nicer location that inside on the convention center floor.

A small suggestion: you might want to think about making it clear in your first post that it's a pot luck and you want people to bring stuff because right now you only know that if you read all the comments and people are lazy sometime and don't seem to bother with them.

I'd also like to second hazelasher's suggestion about LJ. You might want to post about it over on egl and/or ca_egl because people over there have been asking about fanime a lot recently and even specifically about your picnic.

Any chance you happen to know which day that Gothic and Lolita Panel hosted by Gothic Garnet is going to be?

Ok, so as of right now this is just a suggestion and please shoot it down if you think it's dumb/too dangerous. Would anyone be interested in meeting outside by the fountains for a giant game of Red Rover? All cosplayers (and probably noncosplayers as well) would be welcome to join in. Obviously we wouldn't all know each others names but we could refer to each other by character name or clothing description.

You never played Red Rover as a kid and have no clue what I'm talking about:
Players on a team hold hands, forming a line. The leader of a team will call a player from the opposing team. That player must try and break through two players' hands (a link) to stay on their own team. If the player is not able to break through the link, that team will gain control of that player. Before a player would try to break the link, the link would normally say "Red Rover, Red Rover, we call (player's name) over!" Typically, the weaker players are chosen first to increase the chance of taking them.
When only one player is left on a team, they must try and break through a link. If they do not succeed, the opposing team wins. Otherwise, they are able to get a player back for their team.

I'm not a jrock fan, at all. I just wanted to say that slim's is a really good venue and the little store across the street has awesome food and foosball for afterwards (in case you guys didn't already know that). Have fun. :)

Santa Cruz Boardwalk-Just like a Raging Waters gathering, it ends up being two seperate gatherings in one: those that want to actually go to the beach and those that want to just go on rides (with a third group having no intentions of leaving the arcade at any point).

Santa Cruz area- lots of good beaches, easily located.

Monterey- lots of nice beaches, the aquarium is a lot of fun but I doubt everyone would want to/be able to affoard to go.

Carmel-Seriously, what would we do? Carmel is a romantic getaway. It's good for couples, golfers and shopaholics with too much money. Other than eat seafood, drink wine and spend lots of money of cutesy shops, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot to do here.

I'll go where ever the group wants to go, I love the beach. I can fit 3 other people in my car comfortable, 4 legally. To anyone that has had the misfortune of driving with me in the past: I'm much better at driving over 17 nowadays, promise. :)
