I'm surprised someone would say food trucks are cheaper than the local options....perhaps the problem is people aren't aware of what those are.

How is it that you equate me saying majority (which is statistically proven at late night Electronic festivals/events/ clubs that majority of people are NOT sober) with ALL (insert racial stereotype)

In philosophy this is called the false equivalency argument which is where you fall into....nice reach tho, and you know Im right  ;)

just curious where you got your statistics from, this seems like not only a case of false equivalency from one poster, but an argument based on a "false fact" by another.  In statistics, this could be a "false casualty" or "proof of a null hypothesis".

I thought they were banned too, well 2016 was my last year so my record for attendance (99'-16'), and I don't recall them at all.  Did they have them this year?  Can you tell me what the whole point of LED gloves...are people tutting again in the dark?

I can understand being uncomfortable meeting and chatting with people and then finding out they're half your age. It feels like it can get real inappropriate real fast, even if you're not making any sort of sexual advances. (I also have the problem of having to reject a lot of 14-year-old baby lesbians who are constantly hitting on me at cons, but I don't think that 18+ badges would help with that :P) Even though nothing salacious is happening, and I'm not a flirty person, I'd much rather chill with people closer to my own age, thankyouverymuch.

For something where it's just a social issue, something like ribbons might be a good idea -- not mandatory, and not something that would allow or disallow access to an 18+ event, but something where if you want it, you can stick it on your badge and indicate to others that you are above/below legal age. Might help parents feel a little more safe with their kids there, though I can also see how predators might try to single underage people out, and it might be an issue if someone under 18 gets a hold of an over 18 ribbon, but if people /are/ trying to hook up and are smart about it regardless of ribbon, that shouldn't be as much of a problem, since they wouldn't be official.

There's no way that badges or anything would be a good way to very age for official reasons, but if it's just the social aspect, it might be worth a shot to try unofficially.

Not everyone who is uncomfortable with the idea of hanging out with people way younger is trying to hook up with them. Besides, OP literally said that she likes to meet women at cons. If you're going to suggest this (hey, nothing wrong with it between consenting adults), then at least get the gender right. ;]

I also forgot to mention that I think it would be a good idea in regards to the dance that their be an all ages portion prior to the 18+/21+ dance. Again similar to how AX did it, with the wristbands in mind, they had an all ages portion, then by a certain time they asked all attendees to leave momentarily (at this point they switched out DJ's, adjusted the lighting, and made other preparations. They then asked everyone wishing to (re)enter to have their badges and identifying wristbands to have them visible.

If I remember correctly it was something like 6pm-10pm was all ages, then from then until closing it was 18+ (obviously these times would be adjusted to the Fanime schedule, but this is just to give you a general idea)

last year, the ax dance has an occupancy limit of <400 (four hundred) with a second 21+ room of ~300.  I don't remember them closing to kick anyone out at 10, they just didn't let anyone under 18 in after 10.  the fanime dance on sat. had >4000 (four thousand), it takes 30 minutes to clear the room and asking everyone to exit and WAIT IN LINE again is a bad use of resources (and it won't make a lot of people happy).  Besides, the dance is not a dating service and please state the benefit for having age restrictions on the dance after a certain time and how wristbands could be financially feasible and justifiable.  as someone that works with tyvek wristbands every weekend, there are ways to easily take them off and besides, if you put it on too tight, they sue you.  as for the plastic ones at a hospital (since i used to work at one) you only need a pair of needle nose pliers or a quality hole puncher.

The ban on chemical glowsticks was implemented in 2012.
This was in response to 3 things:
(1) cracked open glowsticks (whether intentional or not) caused damage to the facillities.  the liquid is highly toxic and dangerous.
(2) some attendees cut open glowsticks and poured it on their cosplay/skin in the hopes to "glow"
(3) the convention put in new carpets and glowsticks were one of their major concerns.

Yup.  They get free booth space, usually in a premium location.  That's the standard agreement that most sellers have with conventions, such as SakuraCon and Anime Expo.

What is the source of your info? I talked to someone from gsc and they pay "premium" prices for dealers hall space at ax.

can a newsletter or section be added to the fanime.com website for day zero?
while some people might say there is no need for that since it's not an official day, I think it would be helpful to see what they can actually do (registration, swapmeet, gaming, dance) and perhaps an introduction to CSI and a noob guide to the con...?

the bboy hangout has been created for the dancers to congregate in a large room with a real dance floor instead of the main lobby (since registration has moved back to that area, they will be asked to relocate).

Our goal is to foster a fun and enjoyable atmosphere for dancers to demonstrate their skills or moves while not creating an ultra-competitive atmosphere.  Even though the dancers can choose to battle; any wagering or the act of winning "prizes" will be considered a violation of the code of conduct.

just a reminder..speaking as someone who has worked with a car show at sjcc in the past (and not as a fanime staff member). sjcc is a UNION venue, meaning that (a) the owners can't drive their own cars in to south hall (a union driver has to) and (b) there is a gate fee for every car (and it's quite expensive)

led based glow products are acceptable.
we are planning on lasers or led moving heads in the main room (230)
due to lighting conflicts we decided to stray away from effect lighting in the controller room, it will have black lights instead (rm 233)

i'd love a tutorial or introduction to after effects and premiere..daytime sat. or sun preferable

Don't forget that most hotels will charge extra if using a debit card for deposits/incidentals.
