So, after seeing a couple AMVs of this at Fanime '06, I decided I had to check it out, if only for the really cool animation. Well, I liked it a lot. The Count of Monte Cristo has always been a story that I liked a lot for the intense emotional power, but this show did an excellent job of converting it to an anime, with enough original stuff that it didn't feel like a rerun but without losing the key parts of the original. Apparently there was a marathon of this at Fanime - but I never manage to make it to Fanime marathons; there's too much else going on, and I'm very demanding about watching my anime in order.

Overall, I loved the music, the animation, the voice acting, the storyline, the characters... What about you guys? Am I just unnaturally captivated by this show, or is it really as good as I think?

I watched this show while it was being fansubbed. I LOVED IT. It had everything what you described about and the visuals were excellent. I consider this a masterpiece. Hell, this is the 1st time an anime motivated me to get the original book. Hehehe.

Yeah, I really wanna read the book now. I've seen several adaptations, retellings, summaries, etc, but never experienced the original, and I really want to now.

btw, the only other show I can think of that had a similar effect on me as this show was Monster, which was amazing.

I wanna watch the show non-dubbed but I'm too lazy to buy.... >.>

I watched it on my laptop. XD You gotta love bittorrent. I really enjoyed the series so much and the animation is just mind-blowing and astonishing. I love how it kept me watching, just to find out what's going on. It's awesome.
