Black and White Masquerade Ball in '07?

wait...masquarade...correct me if Im wrong...but isnt that when you go to a party wearing a mask?...now unless is a cosplay masquarade...then we should consider the color of the cosplay...hmmm...but yea...Im confuse now...yay for dancing

A black and white masquerade is traditionally a ball (a formal dance and "party") where the men wear black and white tuxedoes and the women wear conservative (meaning not too expensive, extravagant, or flashy, so that you dont stand out above anyone else, though I dont THINK they have to be black or white (I could be wrong on these points) and everyone wears masks. The idea is that everyone looks more or less the same, so you never really know who is who, which would allow people (read: nobles with images to protect) to do and say things (or people <_<) they wouldnt normally be willing/able to.

Now, Im not on staff, so my word doesnt ACTUALLY mean anything. But I would assume that as long as you are wearing black and white, be it cosplay, a tux, a dress, or just your sunday best, as well as a mask, you should be good. I cant imagine them stopping you for a wig (especially considering how many people dye their hair, and they certainly wont turn THEM away,) or for tasteful/legitimate accessories (which are a traditional part of discreetly locating your secret someone in the faceless crowd without betraying their identity (or yours.))

I guess I should expect to spend even MORE money. Gah.. I'm already anticipating $550 in expenses for a single cosplay, hotel room, and attendance alone. My car fund's not gonna be happy.

B makes for a VERY valid point, Fanime staff members are trying to keep us using the word "rumour". The same thing happened last year with all this excitement built up....and people seemed "sure" that it would happen in Fanime 2006...except it didn't. HOWEVER...this year we MIGHT get it as they've had more time to properly prepare.

I REALLY hope they allow crossplay, since it'll be the only fancy clothes I'll have  :cry:  :cry:

I have a feeling that they won't *absolutely* require everyone to dress up to the nines, although it is so much cooler if you do.

You have a point there...I mean that's like going to FanimeCon and not buying anything, or at least wearing an anime T-shirt!! When going to a cosplay event, it's always better to go in cosplay.

Waaaah... How cool!  My cosplay is already black and white, so I'm down.  I've never been to one of the Fanime dances... This one is going to be interesting with the ball room dancing. X3

Yeah I totally agree with you there, and I hope that the music selection is something that use newbies can easily dance to ^^;

If they're playing classics or big band music, or 50's and the like, I wonder how they're setting up the band or bands?

Ironically enough, there's a class at my school called Jazz/Rock Combos, and just this Friday I performed a bunch of oldies at the Marriott for an award ceremony/fundraiser. It'd be really cool to perform for the Masq at fanime too :D!

Also: Black and White usually refers to it being a formal event, rather than a color-themed. :D So yea, other colors should be allowed, afaik. :D
