Should i go for Thursday???

ok this is my first time going to fanime and i will be there from Friday morning  until Tuesday morning, but if i spend like $85 more i can be there for Thursday to. so anyway should i spend the money and be there for Thursday or not, and what happens on Thursday?

That's what I'm doing too. I'll be arriving on Thursday, pick-up my badge, and do the swap meet.

Are you going to meet people there?  Unless you know someone you can hang out with, I don't think it's worth paying an extra $85 for.  You get to wait in an excessively long line to pick up your pre-reg badge (which can be fun if you're with friends who have DS's too) and you can go to the Swap Meet, but that's it.  There was a concert last year on Thursday, but they didn't announce anything for this year.  $85 will buy a nice amount of anime and manga when the dealers open on Friday, so I think it's worth the money to wait until Friday.  I always go on Thursday just to pick up my badge and browse the Swap Meet, but I go home to sleep after picking up my badge, and then I drive back on Friday and stay in the hotel.  For me, the gas to go home and come back is still cheaper than staying the night in the hotel room.

If I didn't live so close, though, I wouldn't bother going for Thursday.

I'll be there on Thursday doing the Swap Meet and taking pictures of those who show-up in costume that day/night. :)

If you wish to cut-costs, instead of rooming at the con hotel(s) you can try to find a cheaper motel a few blocks (or miles) away, and then commute to the con on Friday morning.  That's what I did a couple of years ago: stay at a Motel 6 (there a couple around San Jose) before going to the con and staying at the Marriott from FR-SUN.

Yeah, me and my boyfriend and some other friends are going up on Thursday to get our badges and Swap meet and hanging out stuff. If we wanted to we could get people to do an organized thing when the swap meet is done? I mentioned doing RedRover in the post in the cosplay section I believe but basically we all can just hang out ^^

Ya know, the Thursday line is always longer, but at the same time, if you're social, is a great way to hook up with people. And of course if you have friends, it's always great to hang out in line with them and people watch.

Though to be honest staying that entire night until Friday is pretty money draining.

I would say yes, since picking up your badge early on Thursday saves you from wasting con time on Friday.

well here is a quick run down on how it all started for me for going on Thursday. used to be that we traveled back and forth from the con to home. but we soon discovered that staying at the hotel was well worth the money. then one year we went down to get our badges on Thursday and didn't feel like hitting traffic on the way back home. that's how we started staying on Thursday too. that was also back when the con was at Santa Clara. now that it is in San Jose we also use it as a time to walk around the area and check out any new places to eat. we also use the extra day to relax at the pool and hot tub. that something that we normally don't get the chance to do during con. so for us its worth staying the extra day. we sometimes also use it as a extra cosplay day.

While it will obviously cost more for an extra night, I highly encourage it. I always head down on Thursday, just because I live about 6 hours away and I really detest having to rush on the day of the con to arrive, check in, get everything put away, and then finally head over to the con. And like others have mentioned, if you pre-registered, you can pick up your badge, socialize with other people in line ( I always manage to find at least one person to talk to and it's usually pretty lighthearted and fun ) and just relax. I mean, you know how tiring it can be running around being crazy otaku junkies, so it's nice to have that extra night of relaxation. All this of course, if you're willing to part with a bit more money : )

I've got my hotel room reserved starting thursday, so we'll be early with our badges. :D Also, just to clarify, it didn't cost me anymore to be there thursday night, then when I only had friday, sat, and sunday nights.

I'm going for Thursday, but I will be heading home after checking out the swap meet, taking some photos, and doing any other fun things they have planned for us pre-regers.  Then it's back over the next morning to check in to the hotel.

Yay! Brightheart's going early!!!!!!! Also, AMV Hell 4 will be playing while everyone else is waiting in line Friday morning which is a great incentive in my opinion!

The really neat thing about going on Thursday is that you can get a head-start on volunteering. Not only would you get some of your hours out of the way, but Thursday's hours count as double-time!

Well I booked a room for Thursday because at the last convention i went to I went that Friday morning and nearly wasted the day x.x
Although I do not know anyone in California and I'm not going with my friends..(just my sister) It might be one of those insanly boring lines
(sorry guys i'm not the greatest sociable person--I get nervous when gathered with a large amount of people..although i am making an effort to break away from that phobia XDD)

What time would be a good time to get there on Thursday? Anyone know?
