Under the assumption that I think any sig image is acceptable, I say 500x100 is fine.  I don't know about you guys, but I think 200px is unacceptably tall.  If you can't fit your stuff into a height of 100px, then you're trying too hard to fit too many things.  I guess mDuo's proposed 50-60k file size range is reasonable.

I appreciate the thread, although you generally can put these in the "about the forums" area.

My intent was to create a topic where people can voice and listen to differing beliefs on avatar/sig usage in general.  This is not really specific to the Fanime Forums themselves.

Ha.  My bad.  That will teach me to reply to posts late at night.

600x100 is a reasonable choice.  I'm trying to remember what the default banner ad size was.  I think that part of my brain filters out images of that shape.


Personally, I hate the idea of signatures, although I'm tolerant of a something that's just one or two lines of text.   Maybe I'm just too old.

So we have new avvy/sig rules now.  To quote:

* Forums Signatures are limited to 600x125 pixels.
    * This includes text and images.
    * Signatures that are too large may be deleted.
    * As this is a new rule, this will be enforced starting September 28.

I'm liking the sig thing.  More or less what I was saying was "acceptable" height-wise because that includes text.  A bit wider than I was giving, but I guess I'm a bit stringent on sig image dimensions because I don't care/believe in them anyway.

Avvy, I think that fine.  I say 100x100 would be OK, but I the 100x125 gives a bit more freedom for potential experimentation.  Who knows, I may have a great concept for something that requires that height someday.  Although, I think it's more likely I'd make the whole thing smaller to make the height 100px or something.  Just because 125px feels unnecessary most of the time.
