Anyone taking bets on 90% of copies being sold EXACTLY for that reason?

otakuapprentice

90%?! you're giving it too much credit. I would say its 40% for Bill Murray, 45% for 'crossing the streams', and the remaining 15% for getting to fight the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.
Time And Relative Dimension In Space.

So I herd you liek cash shop in WoW?

Soon to be TRUE STORY
http://gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=20617 rofl read the comments, it's all businessmen talking about the perfect model to make profit off of games, they don't understand their market at all. If they created a good enough game, the money will flow in naturally as opposed to centering a game around a cash shop.

/facepalm, what is Blizzard thinking by adding a cash shop in a game where you already have subscriber fees, suicide anyone?

Wouldn't be the first game to do it and with as many paid character transfers and name changes they get a month, they KNOW they'll get a large subscriber base to use something like this.

I've always said they needed to start selling certain in game items for real money to upset the flow of things like this.

Perhaps someday those of use without hundreds or thousands of dollars to spend second hand will be able to get these things without having to pay a scalper or buy box after box after box of cards that essentially take from someone else because of those of us who buy them only for the loot cards.

Meh, I am generally against cash shop games, unless anything that can be obtained in the cash shop can be obtainable in game as well. For example, upgrade catalysts that increase chances of upgrading, fashion clothing(LaTale is a good example of this model of character customization that can be bought and found in game as well, but that game was ruined for me when cash shop started offering exp rate increase items[I was a high level and the game was recently released]).

I also think that most MMORPGs that are coming out are junk, all right click and watch you hack the monster away.

My summary of MMORPG these days:
1) Talk to NPC, accept quest
2) Talk to another NPC(which leads to a repeat of step 2), go on a small scale genocide of a certain type of monster, collect this many items, or if they are really creative with the story.......here it comes..........you get a mixture of a small scale genocide so that you can collect X number of items that you get from the monsters! It's pure genius.
3) Turn in quest
4) NPC gives you a flat chunk of exp, a cookie, and maybe some gloves. Why don't you get exp as you are performing the task, what's up with a flat chunk of exp anyway. And how does collecting herbs indirectly help you further your knowledge in the ability to cast a firebolt? lol.
5) If you're out of quests, instead of going on a small scale genocide, you go on a large scale one(aka grindfest). Mass genocide is all worth it for getting that next level, I'm telling you man.
6) Max level, enjoy endgame pvp if the system/skills doesn't suck.

Oh yeah to stay on topic I'm also looking forward to Mabinogi Heroes, it has destructable environments, action rpg elements, as well as the feature of interacting with monsters like never before(like chaining down a giant spider with team members and pulling back to keep it down in a promo vid). Sadly most games don't live up to their hype.
