Hi Fanime forumers!

So, for the last 3 years, I've been trying to see whether there is any way to get together musicians (outside of MusicFest or karaoke) and celebrating anime/video game music. Also, for the last 3 years, the piano at Fanime has been chronologically hidden better and better, and playing music in a corner just isn't too fun. This might be a long shot from reality, but how does a 24-hour accessible piano in a room sound; along the line of informal performances? Any pianists or other musicians who'd like such an opportunity?

I really love that idea!

I have a friend who's going to attend the con with me, and he's really talented. ^^

that would be amazing. I'd love to play some stuff and listen to other musicians. Some nice compositions and such. ^^ but i worry about a really long line for one piano........

The only problem with this (and it IS a fun idea) is that some people will, inevitably, abuse it.

"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP PLAYING CHOPSTICKS!!!"
"THE SONG FROM COLDPLAY ISN'T ANY BETTER EITHER!"
"WE'VE ALREADY HEARD FUR ELISE!"
"Hey, that one's pretty nice. Isn't that from FF9?"
"WHY? WHY DO THEY HATE US? NO MORE COLDPLAY! PLEASE!"

You get the picture.
Haven't been here much since '09. I said some stupid, stupid things before (and after) that.

Hm, that's very true.

How about a blacklist, banning Heart and Soul, Chopsticks, and co. ? Or a sign-up list or sorts? Audition process? Hm...

There's hardly any drama going on... -_-

Though, the sign up list is a good idea. Also because we wouldn't want random people going up there banging on the piano or just running their hand across the whole thing.

As much as brainstorming is awesome, there comes a time to review the feasibility of something before over planning it. I don't recall a piano being at con...and if one was found, then the convention center would probably frown on people playing on it.

So heard back from the powers that be:

QuoteThere are pianos at con, some in restricted areas. They are not available for the attendees to use, so they shouldn't have been playing on it in prior years. As much as I love the piano and I like to encourage creativity among our attendees, the liability of them playing on a SJCC piano is also a big concern. Plus, we're already short on SJCC space, so we couldn't allocate an entire room. What we don't use as event space we have allocated to other things.

It shall be done.

Piano at Fanime? I did not even notice. Anyway, seems interesting. I would like to play one song on it. Do not worry. It is not "Fur Elise" or anything mentioned above. I am thinking about playing Chrono Trigger - Wind Scene. Back to the subject, from what I read, people should definitely should not abuse it. I think it is absurd that people would do such a thing. It seriously sucks for those who are trying to play something different.

ewu

still sorry, not gonna happen. I don't think the convention center will allow anyone but a hired professional play on their pianos.

Ah, I thought as much; too much liability and other considerations to worry about. Thanks for checking though!

I had no idea there was ever a piano at Fanime! I'd love for there to be one there all the time as I'm working in Artist's Alley so if it's only open for a certain time I probably couldn't get there. But if there is one I can get to I'll bring my sheet music and see what I can plunk out after an entire school year unable to practice.

Or I'll sing for people who are playing if I know the world/your music has lyrics. I've been in choir since I was 4 so I promise I won't break your ear drums.
