But it's better than laying down to die... Even if I get 12 regenerations.  If someone really wants this to happen, then they have to try... Don't just say, "That's it."... If not, then the "By Fans, For Fans."  Mission statement should be removed for being a deceptive statement.

Has anyone offered to demonstrate how the gameplay will be conducted to the Fanime Resource Group?  I have the feeling the answer is, "No."  Sometimes to sell an idea, showing it off makes a big difference...  I 'm an Eng. Tech for a major contract manufacturer here in the valley... proving that ideas can work or be built is what I do for a living.

Some clarification:
- otakuapprentice is correct in stating that there was a previous thread about this. There was numerous reasons for it not happening that year, but that doesn't mean that we will never come back to the idea.
- Hero Ninja's post made it sound as if people would buy the cheaper laser tag equipment from Toys R Us and run around shooting in each other. There's a difference between our members running around shooting each other and FanimeCon officially planning it.

I like your enthusiasm, but please remember that FanimeCon does go over new and exciting events that we would bring to FanimeCon. If something doesn't happen, it isn't because someone just said "NO" but because there were many factors in preventing it from occuring. If you don't believe me, Programming was able to bring in Bushido this year. :)

Also, Saying that the "By Fans, For Fans" motto needs to be removed because a non-staff member poster shot down your idea isn't really fair. If it helps, the staff has reviewed laser tag several times behind the scenes.

QuoteOkay... Then swords must remain in Iaito dojos and Airsoft replicas must be returned to Japan... so on and so on...
I see what you did there.

QuoteI can tell you guys are young because you can't distinguish between Lazer Tag from Photon.
I wasn't aware of the technical differences, and that has nothing to do with age. I never played either game while growing up. It was slingshots in the ghetto.lol Some people aren't that privaledged. lol

If i have allies out there... DO NOT TARGET XpHoBiaX.
Anyone who has played soldier with slingshots is MY ally... I use seeded grapes in Junior HS... try picking the seeds out of your skin...Ouch.

Pfft. I was using those brown spiked things that fell off of trees and rocks. XD Then in junior high it evolved into those little popper things you throw on the ground. I had an arm sling shot thingy. It was so cool.

The one non-staff member didn't shoot down my idea. What I should have said was that The mission statement should be removed if a fan(s) are not given a fair chance to demonstrate their cause.  It's one thing to see it here in textual description and another to see it/play it.  I keep asking if anyone remembers the game rules established in 1986, but no one has responded... So that either means, no one remembers or no one has really played the game correctly.  How injured can you get if the player's area is 4'x4', no physical contact with other players, no running or jumping.  Original Lazer Tag was more like speed elimination (Think paintball without the welts)... How fast could you get all the health meters on one team to zero. Original Lazer Tag WERE those cheap sets at Toys R Us... It's just now their being made by Tiger and not W.O.W.  To play everyone would have to have uniform equipment, else it wouldn't work... Also, I'm not too sure of how much of Photon/Q-zar equipment is still around...  I saw a box of transceiver units and guns being "parted out" a few years ago at Halted Specialties.
If need be, consider one year making it an exhibition sport at Fanime. A demonstration with experienced players/cos-players...I'm sure people would enjoy watching Sailor Moon shoot it out with Pretty Cure.  Anywho, anyone who want to further this idea has a year to plan (FanimeCon 2010).  Aside from DDR, evening dances and the Masquerade... there's not a whole lot of physical events that general Con attendees can participate in... something to look into for 2010.

Again to make this clear enough, "Brandishing a Lazer Tag weapon in general Con population is NOT reccommened."

Fruit from the Liquidambar styraciflua or American Sweetgum tree is one thing (I knew that Botany class would come in handy one day), using rocks was not a good exercise of common sense... We used seeded grapes because they acted like paintballs.  The seeds were to remind us not to get hit.  I used a wrist-rocket slingshot also back then... with a homemade 5oz. counterbalance and sight... With magnum bands installed a fair sized rock had a velocity of about 550-625 ft/sec.  A direct hit with a rock to anyones head and they'd be in the emergency room... Well, If they're lucky.  So, you and your friends were shooting each other with rocks???

Remember:  Grapes = Misdemeador Charge, Rocks = Felony Charge

Why not just host a gathering of people who want to do this at a certain location if you want to see it happen to this extent?

1. Gathering could imply non-con related activity... (i.e. You guys all go down to Discovery Meadows and go shoot yourself.)

2. Fanime Resource Group has already made it clears that they have no remaining venues to conduct such an event... Even if we were able to.

3. Competitors wouldn't have enough time to find the appropriate gear... (1986 units shot farther and were more accurate... Even in daylight.)

I look into new con options, because I got tired of some MAJOR media professionals refering to FanimeCon as a 4-day fashion show for the obsessed... I want to be able to suprise attendees with new/ different things so that after they leave they can say, "The other Cons never had anything like that and I wonder what they'll do next year."  I have a standing belief that, "If you don't innovate, you stagnate and perish."

So this topic stands postponed for a future date... END OF TOPIC.
