I heard that Fanime holds its own raves and im interested about going to one but Iv never been to rave. I was wondering if raves are safe and what happens at them?

in short, the rave you speak of is essentially a rather large dance party.
usually with high energy music, from the usual genres such as - electronica, trance, house, and dance/re-mixed music.
Big club-esc room, lots of people dancing gettin their groove on, sometimes in or our of costume, and generally being able to dance with all the flashy lights and stuff.

Not to be confused with the stereo types of other types of Raves where questionable activities run rampant - we at Fanime are in full force of safety practices for all who attend:

For example:
ALL people entering the Fanime Dance area are required to be registered [badged] members of fanime. NO ONE outside of fanime is permitted in without a badge. NO EXCEPTIONS.

THERE IS NO ALCHOL @ Fanime Dance. Fanime is an alcohol and substance free zone. Anyone caught with such contraband is subject from ejection of the convention and the grounds.

ALL entering the Dance area is subject to a BAG SEARCH - no weapons, questionable containers, or hazardous items will be allowed into the Fanime Dance.

Appropriate Clothing is enforced. Pretty self explanitory- No Solicitation

Fanime Staff and Rovers will be in, around and surveying the Dance at all times. If you being harassed, followed, or made uncomfortable by any other member please report any incidents to us.

Most people have fun, and we intend for everyone to be safe. Obviously our Fanime Dance is proof that we can have a big dance party and have kept it around without any incidents to shut it down *knock on wood*

Hopefully that clears your concerns about Fanime Dance.  :)

Don't call it a rave.

If I'm not aloud to then neither are you.

That and it is not really a rave. Like Jerry said, it is a big dance party. Fanime Dance is nothing like a real rave. Well except the dancing and music maybe. But no drugs or anything steriotyped by raves will be at the dance. It is a simple, clean dance, at least as clean as a dance could be.

@TC *likes comment* Thanks for defending the concept of our dance not being a rave.  Much appriecated

Jerry has it about right.  We have the intent of trying to make our dance party enjoyable by all who passby.  I know personally, we aren't one who promote the 'raver' style and all of its negative aspects.  If you wish to look at it in the social sense of being able to meet others who are like you, musically speaking, then its a great time out.  This is the concept that our dance is based upon.

In any event, those who are curious should just pass by the show its self, and check it out.  Who wants to be the person to miss out on a great thing since they 'believe' the majority of the reviews that are posted?

To the poster, Dance is fun since we as staff make it fun, and the attendees make the show worth our while.  For without their support, it'd be just 5 or so guys playing for themselves to hear the music they like.

So keep that in mind when coming to our show :-)
thanks for all the support, in advance

dont forget to give props to the awesome DJ's we have on the scene @ Fanime Dance.

and of course you may [when appropriate and closer to the con] im sure the Dj's will have a request line so that they can get this music queue in order.

Dont forget these DJ's have an apreciation for Jrock and Jpop dance mixes in the beat too. So if you want something mashed up or just want its original high energy from your fanime Anime / Video games / Japan pop music culture in the mix... its gonna be there.

Dance Dance those " Hot Fanime Dance Nights " away ladies and gentle nerds.

Throw in some Triple P [ Para para Paradise] DDR remixes, and even maybe a surprise guests of the Elite Beat Agents [ or Hey Fight! Awesome Cheer Squad in japan ] :P

Fanime Dance Agents are a GO!  :D

The dances are coo, as long as the right music/DJ is playing/spinning and people aren't being unnecessarily obnoxious.
