The following story is about a man named Norbert Chonsey, an anime fan who is one day invited to a party hosted by the best looking elite cosplayers in Millcouver City, U.S.A. He is especially a fan of Rei Ayanami from the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. But when elite cosplayer Jane Sandia rejects his offer to take her photograph as Rei Ayanami at her costume party in uptown Millcouver and Norbert is harassed by some highbrow Gungrave costumers for coming to the party in a cheap car, things take a strange and dark turn for the costumers who attended the party on that night.

I would like to hear comments on this story which is centered on cosplaying. The links to the story may be found below.

I like the concept, read the first part didn't like the execution.  It seems a bit too fake to me.

Well actually I got the concept for this story from watching both American and Japanese programs which have these so called 'Popular People' who seem so fixated on physical appearance and I wanted to explore the possibility of having people like this in the cosplay world. So what do you suggest to make the dramatization of this story seem more real?

In my opinion, cosplaying is not really considered geeky if the person looks good in the costumes. Just check out some of these images and you will see that the cool, popular girls are into this.

On a side note, costumes have been eroticized for a very long time in the United States. That is why there are also scenes of women in American films making love wearing cheerleader, police, army, goth-girl, cat-girl, and bunny-girl costumes.

I guess I should have worded it a bit better; of course there are beautiful people in every form of hobby/lifestyle it was the way the characters carried themselves in the story that I didn't like.  The characters didn't seem "liquid" enough, they were too extreme in the character they were. The jocks were super duper jocks and the main character was uber nerd.  They just don't seem human enough to me. If you want examples of cosplay hierarchy/drama check out certain coscom threads and /cgl/  more drama than TNT going on there.  As I said I've only read the first piece of the story so that might have changed as the story went on; I do have to say Kudos to you for writing a piece I've always thought about it but never had the gall to do so.

i want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but i wouldnt worry about Jiang's posts.

no worries LordKefka. at least its not another non-debatable thread that most of us dont understand. :P

so its all good. i think.  :)

Long story short I was checking up on some of these topics and he self bumped this topic 6 times with his own post trying to bring it to the front of the page. They were pretty much pointless posts with no new info to offer. After deleting those posts, he posted something random again to bump it to the first page. I delete that post and he posts yet again to bring it to the first page (wow you'd thing he got the point by now.. -_-). Now if it was something new he was offering to the table it's fine and people will post if they were interested in this topic. But since it's not, he's pretty much spamming... his own topic... sadly to say ~_~

far it be for me to question his or your motives - and to be honest i hardly noticed [or cared] he was self bumping because there hasnt been much activities on the forums lately

but i find it funny he didnt contact you more directly about why you deleted his posts or why you didnt contact him to give him fair warning on a more private level.

now if Jiang is just not getting the point [again giving him the benefit of doubt here] maybe he really just needs to learn a little more about posting etiquette or just similar to sysadmin's strong warning of :

" CUT IT OUT THEY'LL BAN YOU STUPID  " :P  might suffice.

ironically, you and I are generating more of a conversation than Jiang ever could.
and that, is the sad truth.  :-\

Yea I know. Forums are kinda dying but I still try and do what I can with it.

And why I didn't contact him directly? Didn't want to. I didn't want to create a "chat" with him via PM. And warnings wow, I think anyone would pretty much get the point when those redundant posts were deleted over and over again.

He's not stupid. He knows I'm deleting his spam posts but still going ahead to post again to bump it up to the first page. In case he really didn't get the point, (ABOVE POST)

With the whole conversation thing, ya, kinda sad. Maybe I should give him a 72 hour challenge to write up a new set of fanfics or else I delete this topic >__>

heck I've made posts that no one comments on, and honestly somtimes that just happens.

my whole point was that he was bringing up supposedly debatable topics and yet just listing pointless or un-established facts without trying to generate a conversation.

as you would put it - pointless spam.

maybe not a "time limit" on whether or not Jiang can write a fan fic - but that he makes an attempt to post in another thread other than his own to generate his opinion [not some pointless fact pulled from somewhere] and try making conversation?

i dunno telling someone how to post and why/where to post seems really odd.

anyway i guess that if he keeps ignoring request from you, other mods and sysadmin himself ... then he should under why he's getting banned for his behavior...

then again i wonder if it will hurt or help someone's reputation for getting banned?

i hear that the bad boys and rebels get all the chicks. ;)
i guess thats a topic for another thread.

I was joking about the 72 hour thing...

And haven't you ever heard of the song "Good Girls, Bad Guys"?

Mizuki

I hate self-bumps that have no new content, that's my input.

Jiang Jin

I am deeply apologetic if you moderators had assumed the belief that I was bumping my threads because I was not. The last post I made was merely an addendum to the comment provided by the last person who posted in this thread. Please do not take offense as my motives are pure and sincere. Thank you very much and Godspeed miladies!

if i didnt know any better, I would think that Jiang is patronizing you "ladies"

and if the timeline is correct, Jiang didnt need an "addendum" post because back in may you just posted:

Thank you.
which was in May 7th -
nearly 2 months after the last 'real' post was tagged....

so why again re-post in a thread that since may was again now over 3 months old? [between May and August]

I call shenanigans on Jiang Jin.

Maybe there should be a  sysadmin challenge again. - or Jiang should sit in the corner and think about it.
