If you only buy a badge for only one day, do you still have to be with a parent or guardian if you are a minor?

no, you just need a government issued i.d.

Looking at the fanime page I can't help but notice that if you are under 18 and you have a valid government ID (e.g a driver's license or state ID) there doesn't seem to be a requirement for a legal guardian. I think this changes once the attendee in question falls under say, 12 years old or something but if you're in high school and have a valid government ID I don't see any reason why you'd need a guardian. However I'm not staff so I'd wait until some official word comes down from on high.

This probably has to get confirmed by Registration or Ewu.

The usual reason why a parent or guardian is required would also depend on the type of transaction being handled---

if the minor is attempting to pay with a Credit Card - the card holder [usually the parent] is required to be present during the time of purchase.

if the minor is paying by cash, then again a Government issued ID is required, but I keep forgetting if the Parent or guardian is required during the time of the transactions. Most likely a person 18+ has to be part of the group purchasing along with the minor at the same time. So usually an friend, guardian, or parent 18+ will do.

Again the main reason why we do this is because Fanime is NOT a daycare for minors. sorry little ones...
Minor & parents have to be responsible for their actions, and what they do around the convention...
Ironically you'd be surprised how many minors dont tell their parents about Fanime and then Parents come into Con Ops or Rovers Base expecting Fanime Staff to know exactly where their kids are... >_<

I hear the PA asking for Tommy or Julie and some other kids name all the time reporting that their parent is looking for them. \o/

The embarrassment is usually punishment enough. Everyone standing around looks to the kid in question, points and goes "Uh oh! Someone's mama is worried!"

Moral of the story kids? Talk to your parents about Fanime instead of taking off so they don't come to the con livid and looking for someone to blame.

From my experience last year, I ended up bringing in a passport and they did not ask for it.  I walked in Sunday afternooon for a one-day badge.  I would highly suggest you bring it just in case.
