So I was planning on being cheap and stay in my car for the night.  I was wondering if it was safe enough to do that, and if so, what are the safe areas.  I was also wondering which nights would be the best to stay for all nighter/ really late events.

legally speaking... um its NOT ok to fall asleep in your car...

even though i know of people who have done it.

so in short, please dont. Although Fanime Staff and i suppose even convention staff have no jurisdiction in the parking structures or on public street, the SJPD sure do... they will most likely wake you up and ask you to leave or worse case scenario cite you.

sleeping in public around the convention center too is also a NO-No, mostly because this IS a 24 hour Con, so is our Rover's shifts and we will be enforcing no sleeping anywhere policies around the entire convention center.

Trust me even if you think you can find a ninja sleep place, we will find you.

just giving you guys an honest heads up.  Go home and sleep, find a friend to crash in their room, or simply put be responsible with your planning and dont give fanime a bad rep for Con-goers sleeping unsafe-ly around the convention... even if its in your car.

Have fun, but please do it in a safe and sane manner. Thanks!  :)

Last year I saw people napping/sleeping at Stage Zero. I'm talking about in the wee hours in the night where a dude is playing LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME (n64) on the big screen.
Most Impressive.

If you absolutely need to nap on site for some reason, find a buddy who will stay awake and say, read a manga or play with an electronic gadget while you rest. Two reasons: first, they can wake you when you need to be, second, it's gonna be much safer because you'll have someone who can watch over you. A lone sleeper is a crime target, especially if you sleep heavily.

Bear in mind that a buddy will not stop you from potentially getting forced out of slumber by con staff, security, or police, especially in those wee-hours. But it's safer than trying to sleep in your car alone.

Though your BEST bet is to find that same buddy who also happens to have a hotel room ;)

its funny because more people try to sleep around areas like the 24 hour video rooms, gaming rooms and public places like Stage Zero, among other places.

again Rovers will be out in force, and will politely [may not always be the case]  wake those individuals up and ask them to find a legit resting place.

again please dont do it.

this is a Slight exception in the case of overnight lines [back when overnight lines were necessary]  back when events may have been ticketed or hardcore fans wanted to "camp out" ... not so much the case this year because the majority of our Concert events this year will NOT be ticketed.

but again the best idea is to have a hotel room to sleep in.

I've seen lots of people trying to catch a snooze in the Hilton and Saint Claire lobbies; don't know if the rovers still have jurisdiction in that area, probably not, but I'm betting the hotel staff aren't going to be as "friendly" as the rovers in dealing with the "roamers." 8)

I am unsure about the legal ramifications that Jerry mentioned...but don't do it, in the con, in the hotel lobbies, or in your car....its bad juju.
