I remember somewhere around Sunday night there was this guy setting up a table for anybody to grab pb&j sandwiches. He was an older gentlemen and I think had a small beard and glasses. anybody see him?
Any thoughts on this guy? Certain otaku should learn to not waste food money in the dealers room but at the same time I feel it's not such a bad thing to feed a few people for whatever reason.

Food is not allowed to be handed out due to many issues and FanimeCon as well as the various hotel and SJCC management do not and can not allow it.

Unfortunately since it is our event, FanimeCon does get in trouble for it. :/

Chaz, the head con chair of another anime convention, Anime LA or something? Not sure, but yes, I saw him. Boy his table was a mess. D: We brought him wipes to clean the mess up. :P He also had an artist alley booth I think, and was giving out "Magic word?" and Hetalia ribbons. (A friend got me mine :3)

EDIT: Heero you beat me to it xD

On initial thought of this, it would seem like "you can't do nice things because we're jerks rawr!!" but once you realize why this rule is set in place, it makes sense. Unfortunately, all it takes is one person to give out "bad" food (spoiled or possibly laced with something negative) and FanimeCon/SJCC would get in trouble.

I think part of the rules of distributing food also has to do with the vendor licenses which is also why Maid Cafe has to sell the convention center's food and we're told to ask the ice cream vendors out front to move away from the con area and to the public sidewalks.

He's done this for several years, and it is allowed...kinda.  The compromise we've had that allows Chaz to do this on a regular basis is that he doesn't actually serve or prepare food.  Instead he provides the supplies and everyone takes them and makes their own sandwiches, so he's not technically serving food.  I think it also helps that he does it later at night when there's no SJCC concession staff to raise a big issue about it.  Anyways, I for one think it's a nice gesture and hope this loophole continues to allow the tradition to continue, and thank you very much to those who help make sure the convention center tables are clean!
