The pre-reg line on thursday afternoon. Is it possible to have more people working behind the tables this year, to help the line go faster, or open earlier?

*sigh* thurs is so hard for us. Most staff can't come out thurs. As awesome as members coming out, we just have so much difficulty scrambling up staff. Anyone wanna join staff to help!!:)

Maybe it's just me, but I really noticed that there were a loooooot of "non-con goers" crowding up the convention. A lot of kids (as in teens) with out badges and just skate boards laughing at every one. When I was outside in front of the convention center, there were 3 retards throwng firework poppers at random cosplayers and blowing air horns at people, then running around. It's kind of a pain to be harassed by people who aren't even allowed to attend our con, just running rampid doing whatever they want, EVEN in the Dealers Hall!! I love going to con to hang out with people who have similar interests, but now I have to feel bad going to Fanime like I might get picked on or harassed! I dunno, I just wish they weren't allowed in or there were more strict rules on them.
I noticed that alot of non con goers at about 4 am walking in the con staring at people and during the day i would see skateboard punks as well.
i dont wanna resort to violence but if i were one of the cosplayers that had poppers thrown at,time for some excercise and when i mean excercise i mean chasing someone who wants to be funny.
and im a teen lol but atleast i have some sense

Allow me to provide the irony. You first make a seeming understanding comment about how people are harassing cosplayers. You finish with how "you're a teenager and have sense". But prior to that, you say, you'd chase someone down and beat them up for minor harassment.

Do you understand how that's rather nonsensical?

And the reverse could be said. A lot of con-goers harass random people with their screaming and "active playing" in front of the con-center, at the dining establishments, at the park, and in the hotels. It's a two way street. As I've stated, most anime fans are rather socially awkward people,a nd when you gather a lot of them together like this, they think it's ok to "let loose" for a more politically correct term. So they act in rather very socially unacceptable ways. This is quite bothersome to a lot of people(in and outside of the con). So before people start attacking people for harassing con-attendees, remember con attendees harass people too. It's kind of expected, be the adult about it and try to ignore it. If they cause actual problems... or being to start causing actual problems, once more, be an adult about it and handle it appropriately.

I can understand that they would be allowed to run around and hang out by the con center as it is not against any rules, but for throwing stuff at people action ought to be taken.  :-\

Artist Alley wasn't really worth it this year. Just same old buttons, PLUS disappointing art quality. Just wondering, do the staff do a background or art check about who gets a spot? I'm sorry if it's offensive, but honestly, I remember seeing some low quality art.

I don't think staff would turn people away just because the artwork quality doesn't meet with a certain individual's appeal. Buying from them is an option after all. And no offense, but that would make them look like douches in my opinion.
I agree somewhat with both of you. I do recall seeing a really awkward artist selling... very... how do I explain it? Well I don't really know what she was thinking there is the option of not buying from them I suppose :/

But sometimes I really do think some people shouldn't sell their art (especially that girl, I remember some ridiculous sketching and crayola like stuff) and other people with a better quality in art should sell no?
Sometimes I get dissapointed in the artist alley and *sigh* and tell my friend, really, next time you should do this. ;A;

It especially sucks when you want to buy a commision and all the good ones are taken, but I guess that's my fault gotta rush in there >;9.

This is actually quite dumb. People want to show case and sell their artwork, despite how (not) good they are. You're basically saying that unless people reach a certain quality they can't sell/showcase their art? Think about it this way. If this was the case 98% of people on deviantart would have their accounts revoked. Because the mass majority of them are not of a high calibur. Let people sell their art because they're proud of it. Just because it's not AMAZING... doesn't mean anything. If you don't want to pay for it, then don't, but some people might and thes artists have a right to be able to sell it to those people that do want to buy it. I bet if I saw your friends art, I would think it sucks too... you know why? Because compared to my friends... it does suck. (just for reference, I'm friends with doujin artists and professional char designers/key animators for actual anime series). So even if you dislike their art and think your friend is better, it doesn't mean a damned thing, because my friends are better than yours. So how would you like it if I went up to your friend and told them how much their art sucks.

In semi-retrospect. 2ch did this awesome thread about evolution of artits. Where it let artists upload old work -> present to show their progression as an artist. Some of them were amazingly bad. Like, super terrible horrible bad, and in a span of a year->2 years or so went from being worse than generic 14yr. old girl doodles to professional artist quality.  It's funny because their old work that sold as comissions at different conventions in Japan as jokes became collectibles for certain people that ended up making it as designers and professional artists. So... who knows.

Also, it seems many people hate the Christian protestors. Personally, as annoying as they are, i think they are perfect troll bait and can trigger some massive lolz.

I usually don't like poking my nose into arguments but really, your tone was rather assuming. All artists have to start somewhere, and it definitely takes a lot of courage and effort to showcase your work in the Artist's Alley. As PyronIkari said (and obviously it doesn't apply only to art, but to most everything else), there will always be those who are better than you and those who are worse. All an artist can do is to (hopefully) work on improving one's skills. Part of that process can be setting up shop in the Alley.

On the topic of 'quality level,' art is also subjective (...obviously). The notion of setting a status quo for what level of 'quality' should and should not be allowed is ridiculous.

QuoteSometimes I get dissapointed in the artist alley and *sigh* and tell my friend, really, next time you should do this. ;A;

If you're that disappointed with the AA, show up those other artists and put out your own work. ;P But on that note, those other artists who you might not think are as good as your friend ... well, they're making the effort to put themselves out there. Apparently that's more than your friend has done.

(Sorry I had to jump on this. This ignorant attitude towards less-skilled artists irritates me).

Alright back also I didn't mean it to make it sound as assuming or anything however I don't go up to people and tell them they suck. Which is how you guys make me seem I put it.
But I was only saying why sell something not worth the price, that person I saw didn't even seem to put as much as effort as the other artists. I just wish to see someone who put more effort.
Also I've seen the 2ch thing too, and thats just dandy you know pros.

I don't think the majority of the con is even that bad of artist, reading my post over perhaps I should've been clearer.
On what I was dissapointed in.

So sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.

I don't want to bring my friend into this so don't use her as an example, she already has a table for another con running so don't assume things either. :T  I only tell her this because she has a tad more better quality then some of the other people and it would do good for her, not me.

People can show off their work as much as they want I never said they shouldn't.
In my belief though you should sell it when I think your quality or talent or whatnot reaches a certain point no? But if you believe that everyone even stick drawings can sell then alright, I was merely expressing something I never say out loud. So im sorry if Im offended.
So I dont know where all the other things you two are telling me about are coming from. V_V;;

No... just no. Besides the fact that they WANT YOU to troll them, because it gives them attention(their end goal) no. Because what you're doing is giving the rest of the convention a bad name. As amusing as you might find it to troll the protestors, all that does is add fuel to the fire, which can cause larger problems to the convention as a whole. The protestors are protesting, when you troll them, a lot of it can be seen as actual harassment, since you're targeting them out and doing things directly. This causes problems with SJPD, which causes problems for the venue which causes problems for the con.

Just seriously, leave them alone and don't bother.
